Where to get good Michigan Stadium photos?

Submitted by shikselover on
Having moved into an office with significant blank wallspace, I'd like to acquire a nice -- and sizable -- framed picture of Michigan Stadium to hang on the wall. Trolling the internets, however, there seem to be surprisingly few options available. Most sites seem to have the same 2-3 pictures and none are particularly striking. Arial shots from a blimp don't quite capture the experience of sitting in the stadium. The best option I've found is the new site that the school has set up at http://gallery.pictopia.com/umichigan/. But the more interesting stadium shots seem to come from last season when it was under construction -- not exactly the kind of shot I want to have framed on my wall for the next 50 years. Do readers have any suggestions for where to get a good photo? Alternatively, are there any folks who have taken quality pictures themselves that they'd like to make available? I took a pic with my cameraphone a few years back from my seat in the corner around section 37 that was awesome -- focused on the old pressbox with reddish clouds in the background as the sun was going down toward the end of a 3:30 game. Said phone was later lost (and the pic was of crap quality anyways), but I'd love to get something like that.

I also happen to have a panoramic of Michigan stadium but i made it during the Wisconsin game this year so it has the construction in it. The quality is great as i have it blown up to 7.5 feet by 3 feet and the detail is amazing. It was taken from the student section, has the final score and yardage on the scoreboards (which are readable), and it also shows the size of the stadium. Nearly the left half of the picture is all people and on the right side there's like 8 inches of people just giving the illusion of the size. I am currently trying to photoshop the windows from pictures taken at the spring game onto the construction to make it look well amazing. If anyone has any pictures from the spring game it would be helpful.

I did some hasty editing on this picture to throw up online so the sides were not exactly cropped the nicest and I don't want to just give away my picture so i threw on the watermark. oh and to view it better, right click on the image and hit view image

im working on it but without high res photos of the glass, my best attempts will not look great blown up (this psd file is over 700mb). ive been able to add the brick structure on the far side and some of the side glass but i can't find a high resolution front image that will fit. And the worst part about it that it was not complete during the spring game so the pictures have to come from afterwards.. and even then you can see construction on the inside. i'll hopefully be able to make another picture like this during this season or i'll take pictures to fill in the missing areas on this one.

well i did all my editing in photoshop. I took like 15-20 pictures within 15 seconds and then later went into photoshop, imported all of them and merged all the photos together. The hardest parts were removing all of the lines between photos, the field itself, and fixing the sky on the right as on the left its nice and blue and the pictures on the right came out completely overcast. i used a canon powershot sd630 to make this (its a small point and shoot)

Nice - great job. Must have taken a while. I'm really getting into photography and am starting to look at my next camera (which will run me close to a grand probably), so I was definitely interested to see what kind of camera you used. Right now I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3. It's pretty nice for a point and shoot. I'll have to try something like what you did this season.

I would wait to buy a large picture until the renovation is done because it has completely change the look of the outside of the stadium. It's going to be almost as intimidating outside as it is inside.

...nobody knows of any sources for older vintage pics before the construction began? Agree there will be much better photo ops when all the work is done. But surely there's got to be some Ann Arbor photographer who made a business out of taking great shots and selling them framed to alums like me?

If you live in the Ann Arbor area, you actually might want to visit the art fair, which is going on right now (and continues tomorrow). I've seen a few booths selling photos of Michigan Stadium and some of our players.
