Whatever Happened To . . .
I was thinking back on some of the targets we were really high on and some who even committed, only to later decommit. Wondering if the board had heard anything of past targets/decommits and their whereabouts. A few come to mind:
Aubrey Solomon, Raylen Wilson, Andrew Rappleyea, Kevonte Henry, Mario Eugenio, Otis Reese,
Are there any you can think of that it worked out for or didn't?
What if they had stayed?
Is the Michigan difference really that significant and do we look to compare our program and culture to say "look at what we did for David Ojabo" or for TE's and look at what a shitty job Miami did with Mallory?
Schools negative recruit us all the time, we need to call them out on their shitty development of players and how we transform them into phenomenal men of high quality and pro athletes.
(Obviously he's going to be rich soon) but If Xavier Worthy had stayed, we might be back to back National Champs.

Go to touch the banner, there is a whole page on past recruits where they are that goes back like 15 years. I'd link Magnus' site if i knew how!

Sir, you've been a member of this site for 13 years. If you don't know how to post links by this point, its on you.

In his defense, I also didn't know how to post a link (mostly because I've never tried)
August 24th, 2023 at 11:45 PM ^
There's even a "stickied" META thread that covers several subjects, especially on posting links, videos, tweets, gifs, etc.
August 24th, 2023 at 6:13 PM ^
Yeah, I can even post a Link.

So can I

He came to mind but I left him for you and went with Lancelot. By sheer coincidence I watched (again) Jimmy Page talking about Wray just a couple of days ago. When Page is playing air guitar to someone's song I think it's safe to say they are on the short list of players.

Do you mean this
August 24th, 2023 at 8:13 PM ^
That's the one. Jack White too.
August 24th, 2023 at 8:28 PM ^
That reminded me of a few players that I looked up.
Luiji Vilain is currently a third string outside linebacker for the Vikings.
James Hudson plays for the Browns
Ben vansummeren is a linebacker for Eagles
.
Michael Dwumfour plays for the Titans

I'm genuinely shocked about Vansummeren, although my guess is he doesn't make the 53 man roster...

Kudos to those guys for working ward and following their dreams.

13 years! Holy fuck I am old! Too old to learn how to put in a link, that’s a young man’s game!

Thanks for that link. I hadn't been over to TTB for a while and yes, it is very comprehensive. I don't believe he missed anyone. I will be visiting more often.

If I recall, Aubrey Solomon ultimately enrolled at a little-known school with navy and yellow uniforms...

You may also recall that he transferred to Tennessee after a couple of seasons. I think he ended up being a disappointment.
August 24th, 2023 at 5:50 PM ^
From Tennessee's page:
2021 – SENIOR (5TH YEAR)
Saw action in four games, posting eight tackles and half a tackle for loss ... Recorded a pair of tackles at #4 Alabama (10/23) ... Made second appearance of season at #11 Florida (9/25), did not record any stats ... Tied his career-high with six total tackles (3 solo, 3 asst.) in season debut vs. Tennessee Tech (9/18).

I do recall that; he graduated from Tennessee and went undrafted after a fairly anonymous college football career. I was just nitpicking his inclusion in a question about decommitted recruits when he ultimately recommitted and played for Michigan.

I'd love it if someone with experience or knowledge about the recruiting world could tell me about negative recruiting. Does it actually work? Do recruits listen to this kind of stuff?
I personally tend to discount anything someone tells me when they begin trashing someone else behind their back. When I was first out of grad school I had two job offers. One of the places started telling me all the reasons I didn't want to take the other job instead of telling me why I should take theirs. I took the other job.
(I'm not including the "Harbaugh might not even be there to coach you" as negative recruiting. There's enough truth in that to make it acceptable.)

Of course it works, like it works in politics (no politics) and any time you pit two companies against each other (gutters, concrete levelers, and foundation guys from my experience). It doesn't work on everyone, but it definitely does work on many.

Remember the board boner over Vicious Vic?

There was a kid with initials (IIRC) of DD that was recruited during the RichRod years (again, IIRC). Might have been a victim of of ours admissions and went elsewhere. I saw his name about a month ago as he’s trying to hang on in the NFL.

Demar Dorsey?
August 24th, 2023 at 6:35 PM ^
Seems like Solomon just isn’t very good, I doubt staying here would have changed that. I also don’t see how Xavier getting 3 targets a game would have changed much either.
August 24th, 2023 at 7:31 PM ^
What Xavier Worthy have you been watching? He would have been that deep threat receiver we've been looking for years. He's a serious weapon down at Texas despite your 3 catches a game assessment. He's going to easily be a first rounder if not a lottery pick. If he was on this team now, we would have no weaknesses on offense with the O line, QB, RB's and TE's and Receivers we have. IJS
August 24th, 2023 at 7:43 PM ^
I believe his comment was less a burn on Xavier and more pointed to the fact that Michigan wastes more WR talent than it seems to use. I.e. Nico Collins
August 24th, 2023 at 7:53 PM ^
And the difference 2 years ago between us and Georgia was a LOT more than Freshman wr of any kind. The issues we had last year against tcu were not related to lack of wr play. Defensive collapse and jj weak sauce
August 24th, 2023 at 8:04 PM ^
What Michigan offense have you been watching? We barely throw the ball at all, even less to WRs, and never in the red zone. It’s hard to develop with very few opportunities but I would guess our WRs are plenty talented.
August 24th, 2023 at 9:25 PM ^
I agree that we didn't find ways to get Nico, Black or DPJ the ball enough. I see why it can be a bit discouraging because we haven't used receivers to their potential but it doesn't mean I don't want them. Jabril Peppers was a dynamic weapon who I thought was used terribly as well. I disagree with the TCU take because we were the better team who was looking past a very, very good team because we wanted revenge on Georgia. They prepared for us but we didn't prepare for them. We got hit in the mouth and by the time we began to play Michigan football there wasn't enough time too to catch up. All in all I'm happy with the results, even though it took time to get here.
