What's the word on Willingham?

Submitted by SpreadGuru on

I just read on a Free Press (Lord forgive me) live blog that we lost out on him but can't find that information anywhere else.

Updates?

People think they know everything. Jernigan was a Gator fan growing up and was suppose to go to Florida but ended up at FSU. Marcus Roberson switched his committment like 3 times in 4 days. Recruits change their mind all the damn time. And how do people figure we lost out on him? He hasn't even committed/signed yet.

The Free Press is the devil incarnate. Do not go to their website or God will strike you down. There are plenty of better places you can go to get good information. Please don't sell your soul like that again. Thanks.

the GRPRESS is arguably worse.  It has become rabidly Sparty in the last few years.  It's basically a Sparty apologist, with a deeper and more more sinister bias than the Freep.  So glad I got the fuck out of Grand Rapids.  The only factor cutting in favor of the Freep being worse is that the Freep has a higher circulation.

He's announcing tomorrow but possibly signing before then. A lot of speculation that he'll go to Colorado based on some ambiguous facebook conversation that wasn't apparently relevant to anything.

Nothing concrete to suggest he's gone.

The signs seem to be pointing to Boulder. It's a pretty rational decision IMO. He'll get early playing time, CU is right by his high school( note to fun police Boulder is within a 30 minute drive of Denver for recruiting that's right by), and he's probably getting sold on being a key piece in rebuilding a proud program. If he's heading to CU then best of luck to him.

Their new staff is young, energetic, and full of good recruiters with NFL ties (like Bienemy, for example).  I would not be surprised at all to see those guys put together some good classes over the next few years, especially if they can improve to 7-8 wins next year and get some positive momentum on the field.

If LW commits to CU, that means his parents, relatives, and friends can very easily see all his home games, and LW can easily come home on the weekends, holidays, etc. If he signs with UM, the distance and travel logistics make that sort of contact far more difficult. For some recruits, distance doesn't matter (Jake Fisher), but that doesn't mean it's universal.

The rumors out of Colorado are pretty strong, and suggest that he's staying in Colorado. Keep your expectations low on this one. Perhaps we'll finally have something positive and surprising happen.

Trying to follow what snippets there are and it's mostly secondhand so take it with a grain of salt but sounds like he wants to come here but his family might want him closer to home. Who knows who wins that battle...
