Ways to get games in big house 'more fun'

Submitted by R_mahorn1974 on
I've been thinking, and theres couple things to get fans off of there feet and cheer a little more. During t.v timeouts, its always silent waiting for the game to begin again. Why not have a 'Fan Cam' like all pistons and all other teams that do this. It will get some fans involved into the atmosphere and bring noise (when there on t.v, people tend to cheer). Also, have the cheerleaders or students go around the stadium shooting up michigan t-shirts to the people who are the loudest. Or give away free pizzas around the stadium to the fans who are the loudest. When we played music before the game, I seen alot of people dancing and having a good time in the stands. Which brings them to be more outgoing and louder durin the game(spring game). Beaver stadium gets loud because they have music before game and it gets fans into the game atmosphere. I believe adding all of these little things would be fun and even fun for the kids.

Win more. Against good teams. But really, piped in music? Cheerleaders shooting t-shirts into the crowd? Wow. It's not an NBA game. You might want to duck because it won't be t-shirts that will soon be hurled your way. Personally, being a huge fan of English soccer, I'd love it if fans started authentic song-like cheers and chants. I doubt this will happen as the "down in front" guy will become the "you're too loud" guy.

...is to win. Period. The crap you mention is great for a team like Minnesota, who has to beg for attention in the Twin Cities, let alone nationally. Imagine what you'd say if Notre Dame started doing the crap you listed above.

Win or lose, this guy will still booze. I know winning is the main incredient. If you have a great crowd atmosphere, it helps the players. Does anyone know if the band is staying in the student section? Or are they going to be near the tunnel like the spring game? 50 yard line seats are expensive, but you can hear the band around the whole stadium by tunnel and its right behind visitor bench.

There is no way the AD will forego the revenue from those prime seats and give them to the band. The band will return to its usual location next season. I agree that it can be hard to hear it at times, though; they really should mic them up.

Instead of going against the grain so much, we could just get the entire crowd to cheer in unison "DOWN IN FRONT, DOWN IN FRONT", I think that would be sweet. ;p

I'm not sure if you're aware, but many of us students prefer to sit at a higher elevation (rows 35-40 are my personal favorites) to have a better view of the game. The thought of sitting in row one in an endzone all game is depressing.

winning would help a lot and so would more exciting games. You know, like actually moving the ball down field and scoring points. I went to the Utah, Miami, and Toledo games; and I seriously almost fell asleep during those games, not so much Utah, but definately the other two. I am a 24 year old student who's followed Michigan since I was a little, I make noise, but last years team was the definition of buzz kill. I predict that the atmosphere will be much better this year due to the team being better and the offense being able to get first downs, thus creating the illusion that Michigan can actually win the game.

Who wants some Freeeeee pizza! Or have the Delta Airlines "Are you a better passer than David Cone" competition during halftime, in which you compete against the Coner in passing drills. Sarcasm, of course.

During TV timeouts, choose 8 out of shape guys out of the crowd (my section would be happy to supply all you need), release Barwis from his pen, and have the heavyset fellas all run for their lives around the field. Whichever one he catches, Barwis gets to give him a full workout during half time.

they sing certain songs at certain times during the game every week. Like after the 3rd quarter they sing "Sweet Caroline" I think. Also they sing Living on a Prayer once. I think that would be cool if they did something like that.

It was a lot more fun when they used allow people to bring their own food and beverages, especially alcohol. Now, they won't even let you go to your car at halftime. I know they want to make more money off of concessions, but they could at least sell beer inside.

..I'm a season ticket holder at Minnesota (stop laughing). At Metrodome we'd drink heavily (so would Iowa fans who then decided to schtupp in the bathrooms). However, at the new on-campus stadium this fall, only the suite holders will be served beer. The rest of the stadium will be dry, which will be a boon to the local bars.

They used to look the other way when we walked in with Coke bottles that were half-Captain Morgan. They'd also leave the stadium gates open during the offseason, and you could go down and throw a football around on the field. That was less than 10 years ago. I can't believe I'm so old now that I remember a "different time." I'm starting to think beer at any sporting event is going to eventually be a thing of the past. We're tossing guys in jail already for not knowing that Mike's Lemonade is alcoholic, as if any person who hasn't gone binge drinking since 1975 would know that. So what's next? What is cool now that in 10 years we will look back at and say "remember when it was still cool to..."

I got a great idea for making the Big House fun. It's a tried-and-true method. Imagine it's an absolutely beautiful fall Saturday, part of which you've already spent eating, drinking, and goofing off. Maybe it's getting a little chilly, but you've got a sweatshirt so it's all good. It's sunny and 55 degrees and the trees are all changing. Now imagine you're in the biggest stadium in the entire country, watching the most successful college football team of all time. You only get seven or eight chances to do this all year. You're with 110,000 of your best friends. And you're watching a live, honest-to-god football game, an experience that the very best HD TV can only provide a small facsimile of, and a brand-new chance to witness some kind of history being made. And you need a fucking fan cam and fucking Gary Glitter in order to make some noise and be excited about this?

the fact is that this isn't enough- or to be clear, isn't enough to make the stadium as loud as our peers. My personal taste would be to do noting extra (I kinda liked the hype video but wouldn't do more than that) but if we think that home field isn't the advantage it should be, then something extra should be considered IMO. Having said that, didn't really like the OP ideas and have none of my own except that I think its a no brainer that the band should be miked.

As much as I don't like pro sporting events, one thing I like that they do it this: On third down, it would be nice if insted of encouraging us to jangle our keys, encourage us to get loud. Have the cheerleaders hold up signs that say NOISE and have a big flashy sign on the scoreboard say that. It might help, but I know it definately couldn't hurt. I would never want those advertisements though!

Shooting t-shirts? Come on...I seriously laughed my ass off when I saw that post - until I realized it was serious. I went to Neyland in 2007 for the UGA/UT game (Georgia fan, also), and I was really impressed with how Neyland was. The biggest thing I think Michigan lacks, is the sound from the band. Yes, Rocky Top is annoying as hell after the 45th time, but at least you can hear it. I believe UT has speakers near the band and the speakers are placed in each order and at the 50 yard lines so it can be heard by everyone at the same time. In the Big House, you can't hear the band if you sit in the wrong section.
