WATCH: Antoine Joubert Holds Free Basketball Camp for Kids

The Judge was one of the more compelling Michigan athletes of my lifetime. If there were recruiting-service stars back then, he would have been a five-star out of Detroit Southwestern. One of the greatest prep players ever. Never matched that potential in college, but he still had a memorable Michigan career, won a Big Ten title and averaged 15.6 PPG. Never played in the NBA but had a long career overseas. He's currently the head coach at Oakland Community College.

I came across this story from CBS in Detroit about him holding a free basketball camp for kids in Detroit. (Good on you, Judge!) If you want to see what he looks like now - and more importantly, what he SOUNDS like now - check this out.

Detroit Southwestern played Plymouth Salem in 1983 I believe. I went to Canton but crossed the creek just to see Joubert. He was a human highlight reel drilling deep shots from all over, unfortunately no 3 point line back then.

I remember watching The Judge and Detroit Southwest in the '82 quarterfinals against Benton Harbor at Jackson Parkside. He was like a man playing against boys, just dominant. I also vividly remember that, in a futile effort to get a bigger player on Joubert, BH played their shortest player at center.

I miss the big, physical teams of the mid-1980s.  Joubert was teamed in the backcourt with Gary Grant, forwards Butch Wade and Rich Rellford, and Roy Tarpley at center.  The 84-85 team was one of the best ever at UM, winning the B1G regular season title, earning a #1 NCAA tournament seed.  Unfortunately that team flamed out in the second round, the first of many UM hoops teams to be tormented by Villanova.

The Judge was always a nice guy but it sounds like he has been gargling Drain-o. Glad he is giving back to his community. He had big battles with Scott Skiles.

Some great memories on the court with The Judge, Tarpley, McCormick, Relleford, Wade,Leslie Rockymore, Eric Turner, Henderson, Jokich, Pelekoudas, Garde Thompson, and big Jon Antonides. If Beilein coached those teams they would have been very successful IMHO.
