Vote Shawn Hunwick for Hobey Baker Award

Submitted by James Burrill Angell on

I know this was posted on Friday but......

The Hobey Baker Award Foundation is doing online fan voting for the Hobey Baker Award (college hockey's Heisman Trophy). Due in no small part to MGoBlog influence, our own pint sized former-walk-on netminder went from fifth with under 10% of the vote on Friday morning to leading with over 30% of the vote by the end of the day.

Well...times change. Someone in Maine must have told the other three students out there that Hunwick overtook their candidate and now Spencer Abbott has retaken the lead with 32% of the vote and dropped Hunwick to second with 24% of the vote.

Clearly this will not do......

Time to do what it is we do here at MGoBlog

HERE'S THE LINK TO VOTE: http://www.hobeybakeraward.com/page/show/485291

After Hunwick brings home the hardware

and hopefully another one of these

You know we'll all be feeling

Ohhhh yeahhh.

EDIT: Link fixed. Props to MGoShoe.

Whomever is behind that dude who plays for Maine is clearly hitting the 'bots.

After nearly 8,000 votes this guy has claimed nearly  a third of the votes. I didn't think there were that many people in the State of Maine much less hockey fans of the University of Maine.

I call bull$#!t.

Well, that Maine player does have 59 points this season so may be people are voting for him because they believe he deserves it? Kevin Porter had 63 points the season he won the Hobey. I'm just saying that it's not "bull@#!t."

I've been voting for Hunwick every day.

The last two years of Hunwick were actually supposed to be the two years of hot NHL prospect Jack Campbell before he left for the pros. Remember him? He spurned us for the Windsor Spitfires.

Things didn't really work out that well; he posted an .894 save percentage his first season, and then got traded to Sault St. Marie early this season, where his team will miss the playoffs. Perhaps he'd have done better here, but I don't think he'd be a Hobey candidate.

So I was browsing an OHL forum and ran across this thread describing his last game, a 10-9 win over Windsor. You can find it here. http://www.thenoof.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=40732&start=0&postdays=0&p…

It includes this marvelous quote:

" So wait, you're telling me that Jack Campbell, who likely will be in the AHL next year, likely spent his final OHL game allowing 9 goals in a win?

Perfect "
