I would have to root for tUOS, just b/c of the conference. Big Ten is getting ragged on and a win over USC @ home would be huge.
Ideal scenario every year is both tUSO and Michigan are undefeated going into the last game. It just makes for a great game.

Somebody said the best result would be a 5-3 win for OSU on a really controversial safety. I agree 100%, and further propose that the safety occur late in the first quarter with OSU up 3-0; USC manages a field goal midway through the second, and the teams spend the rest of the game committing copious turnovers and dumb penalties, with heavy emphasis on the false starts, holding calls, and colossally stupid late hits. Missed field goals abound, as do third-and-14s following a hold that wipes out a gain of four yards.
Anything to make the game the most unwatchable garbage this side of a Britney Spears music video.

Because I'd honestly rather see two great teams play to an ESPN instant classic than some shit bowl 08 just because of some petty grudge; possibly because I actually like football

While I'm wishing for my 6 OT 3-0 game, I also hope we reenact the movie Armageddon only instead of the prelimary asteroids destroying Paris, I would have it destroy LA during the game. And instead of Bruce Willis making the ultimate sacrifice for Ben Affleck, I'd have Tom Cruise take his place. While I'm at it, I would also obviously wish that our QB throws ninja stars into the defense and opposing free safeties defected to our side.
Whats with the sudden mood/rage swing?

My problem with USC comes from the whole Hollywood attitude of the program, the sense that they're somehow 'entitled' to the limelight solely by virtue of being in LA. I was in the marching band during the last couple rose bowls we played against them, and during all my interactions with their students and their band, I got this overwhelming feeling that in their eyes if something didn't have to do with USC, it wasn't even worth talking about. I know that Michigan fans are often accused of being arrogant, but what I saw in them just took it to a whole different level.
Do I hate them like I hate OSU? Not at all. It's more like Notre Dame - I have respect for the team and the history, but God do I love to seeing their fans get knocked down a peg or two.

It's just not in our best interests for OSU to keep on going to the title game. Since we unfortunately don't seem to have a great chance of beating them, I want someone else to take them out. USC has the best chance, so I'm all about the Trojans in this one. SC tends to have a letdown in the middle of the Pac-10 season anyway.
As for predictions, if SC can hold Wells in check, they should win. Boeckman will probably have a tough time handling the blitz.

Because I would want to beat the best when they give their best shot. It's asinine to me that anyone could not understand how OSU winning is in Michigan's best interest every game except the third saturday in November. It's not like OSU will ever be 3-9 like ND, they have a quality program and will continue to be good. Additionally, since only OSU has the balls to play quality OOC games, Michigan needs them to win them, because then Michigan beating OSU gives them a transitive win.

No, it's not in our best interest for OSU to win all non-Michigan games when 1) we are unlikely to beat them and 2) our program is not at their level right now. They are our biggest competition in recruiting (or 2nd-biggest after ND, it doesn't really matter), and right now it's tough to beat them head-to-head in that.
Forget all that crap about "beating the best." What we really need in this rebuilding year is for our schedule to suck as much as possible to make things easier on RR and the offense, and give the program some momentum.
I mean really, do you think OSU fans were shedding tears in the 2001 offseason when Henson left to play pro baseball, because it meant that we'd no longer be national title contenders? Of course not. That opened the door for them to turn around the series. I'd love for something like that to strike OSU right now.

If Michigan is unlikely to beat OSU this year, then "beating the best" is kind of irrelevent. If Michigan is going to lose, I would rather it be to a good rather than crappy OSU team.
Michigan's prestige is inexoriably linked to the the prestige of the Big Ten. If the Big Ten, by performing poorly in out-of-conference games, loses prestige/rankings, it can affect the bowl selections, even with the tie-ins (no championship bid; no second BCS bid; lack of qualifiers to fill tie-ins). And it can affect the overall appeal of the conference to recruits as a whole.
And recruiting - Michigan loses a lot of guys (particularly DE's) to USC, the SEC etc. Recruiting is national, and I would rather that the place to be is in the Big Ten.

Just not great all of the time. Let's face it: Michigan is Michigan partly because of OSU, Bo v. Woody, etc. If OSU was more like Northwestern it'd take a lot of the shine and tradition away from the Block M. So I usually prefer they have a good season, and I tend to root for them.....
.....unless I'm actually watching the game, then the hatred takes over and I root for the other team.
So they can go ahead and win this one, I'd be OK with that. Like I said once earlier though, I'd love to see them lose a couple. Most preferably to Youngstown State. I don't want them to ever go 0-11, but a 4-8 or 5-7 season would be good every once in a while.

If OSU and Notre Dame were just average football teams, what would be the great challenge in beating them. Beating them would then be like beating Indiana. And I don't see anyone listing any victories in their top 5 victories post.
Rivalries are great because the two teams are on an equal footing. If one of the two teams stuggles over a length of time, the rivalry is diminished. Just look at USC-UCLA and, to an extent, UM - MSU. But UM defeating a 6-6 MSU team is not near the accomplishment nor as satisfying as defeating a 10-1 Ohio State team.
I understand the intense feelings rivalries create, but what I don't understand is rooting against our rivals in out of conference games. What the big deal beating meh rivals, and who wants to be champions of a conference whose teams have a national reputation of not being able to play themselves out of a paper bag?
