USA-Canada Olympic Men’s Hockey 11:10 pm Tonight

Submitted by JonnyHintz on February 11th, 2022 at 3:46 PM

Big game tonight between the men’s Olympic ice hockey teams representing the USA-Canada featuring six current or former Wolverines. It’ll be a late one, with puck drop at 11:10pm and televised on USA Network.

On Team USA we have current UM forwards Matty Beniers and Brendan Brisson, alongside former players Steven Kampfer and Strauss Mann (who is reportedly starting between the pipes tonight). They’ll be going up against current UM forward Kent Johnson and defenseman Owen Power for Team Canada.

If Strauss Mann starts for Team USA, we won't get to see the goalie matchup that might’ve been for a third team this season.

Team USA’s goalie Drew Commesso who played well against China in the opening game has faced Team Canada’s goalie Devon Levi twice this season in games in which Levi’s Northeastern University beat Commesso’s Boston University both nights. Each of those games in November went to overtime with the second one ending in an eight-round shootout. Levi did not play in Canada's opening game win over Germany,

Since those games, BU (currently 16th in the PWR rankings) has gone 12-2-1, Northeastern (currently 15th in the PWR rankings) has gone 9-4. On Monday night in Boston, defending champion Northeastern plays BU in the Beanpot championship game and with Commesso and Levi in Beijing, both teams have to rely on their backup goalies.

Hell yes let's get to work!  Very excited for this one, especially since we didn't get to see the matchup at the short lived World Juniors this year.  At least USA is still reigning champs there.

While we're still some 35 minutes away from USA vs Canada hockey, I hope many of you were watching just minutes ago as USA won Gold in the Mixed Snowboard Cross as Nick Baumgartner (NTNB) of Iron River MI teamed up with Lindsay Jacobellis to win it all.

In doing so, Baumgartner took over for Jacobellis as the oldest Winter USA Gold Medalist ever, a record she had set earlier this week.

I was more excited at the finish than I've been about any Olympic event in a long time.

These uniforms suck.  It is next to impossible to see the numbers while they are skating.  White numbers on white sweaters - they must have hired Dave Brandon as a consultant.

Michigan getting massive credit right now on the broadcast -  and well-deserved. Our roster is historically elite with talent.  Let’s hope we win some hardware (B1G, frozen four appearance, national championship?)

Two goal lead going into the third would feel good. Giving up a power play goal is a bit demoralizing but we kill this and get to intermission we can put it behind us and finish this game strong. What a miss and kill

Michigan, Michigan, Michigan. It’s nice to hear the announcers be kind to Michigan after hearing the espn guys cry and trash the Michigan basketball team all game. PP.
