US vs. Chile in Women's World Cup

The USWNT is back at it today after beating Thailand 13-0, which was a tournament record.  Following a Carli Lloyd goal the US is up, 1-0.  Chile lost 2-0 to Sweden in its opening match.

Really looking forward to the match against Sweden.  The US will be the better team, but Sweden should be better at holding on to possession and dealing with the relentless defensive pressure of the US midfielders and forwards.  The US defense hasn't had much to do in the first two matches, other than drawing the offside that negated Chile's one opportunity.  Curious to see how they'll hold up against teams that have the talent to keep the ball and attack.

Terrific, another ignorant board post that perpetuates the stereotype of the ugly, chauvinistic American.  Soccer isn't your thing, fine, but if you can't watch a match and appreciate the skill and athleticism, then you're dumb.

And the women's side is every bit as entertaining and compelling as the men's side.  Women's soccer has come a long way in the past 30 years.

Chile’s goalkeeper, Christiane Endler, made some spectacular saves today, but those who follow European soccer know how good she is.

Endler, daughter of a Chilean mother and German father, plays for the Paris Saint-Germain club, one of the top women’s clubs in Europe, and is considered one of the best women’s goalkeepers in the world.  She’s also about six feet tall, about seven inches taller than Thailand’s goalie.

Pick a lane.  You bust someone's balls for perpetuating a negative stereotype but then you go on to mansplain how a world-class female player should go about doing her job?

Cress's near-post efforts were perfectly fine.  If placed differently (top bin or lower corner), she would have scored.  Going far post in those situations has a much lower chance of success.  The ball has farther to travel, has to go through more traffic, which gives defenders a chance to clear the ball in addition to the goalie, requires more power to score, and presents a smaller target due to the angle.  If you're shooting, near-post in those circumstances is the biggest, closest target.  You might head the ball back across the goal for a teammate, but a far-post effort is not the optimal choice.

USWNT approaching the tournament like they just came to prison (or summer music camp).  Beat the %$&#! out of someone the first day and then everyone else gives you respect.  From there on it's just sitting back and killing some time.

We know you don’t care but you can go fuck yourself and stay out of the thread *shrug*

WC threads usually have solid participation. Group stage will be mostly uneventful for the USWNT, but come the knockout stage more people will be following. Gonna waste your time and comment in every thread to give us your opinion?
