Updated Potential Starting Lineup for Mega Class Senior Year

Submitted by Hurricane on

I updated a few of the positions from the list I put up a few weeks back with the new commits and threw in a few potential players in parenthesis. Also, I switched up Ojemudia and Strobel's spots at WDE and SDE, respectively. I only have two 2013 recruits listed as potential starters outside of Morris who has committed and they are Wyatt Shallman and Dymonte Thomas at RB. I realize that Thomas projects better at safety, but he could play RB depending on how the cards fall. I also had to speculate on who will get redshirted and who will not. This is a rough idea as to what our team could look like and is not by any means definitive.

Let the drooling commence.

Offense:

QB: Shane Morris Jr/Jr

FB: Sione Houma Sr/Sr

RB: Justice Hayes Sr/Sr* (Dunn please. If Hayes isn’t redshirted, we could potentially be looking at Shallman or Dymonte Thomas if he doesn’t play S)

WR: (Madaris, Darboh, Chesson, Payton; Hopefully Reeves or Diggs. I don’t think Stanford will be a part of this class.)

TE: Funchess Sr/Sr OR Barnett Sr/Sr*

LT: Erik Magnuson Sr/Sr

LG: Kyle Kalis Jr/Sr

C: Jack Miller Sr/Sr*

RG: Blake Bars Jr/Sr

RT: Ben Braden Jr/Sr (Diamond?)

Defense:

SDE: Chris Wormley Sr/Sr OR Tom Strobel Sr/Sr

DT: Matt Godin Jr/Sr OR Chris Wormley Sr/Sr

NT: (Any one of Pipkins, O’Brien, Shittu would do nicely)

WDE: Mario Ojemudia Jr/Sr OR Pharaoh Brown Sr/Sr

WLB: Joe Bolden Sr/Sr

MLB: Royce Jenkins-Stone Sr/Sr

SLB: James Ross Sr/Sr

CB: Terry Richardson Sr/Sr; Anthony Standifer Sr/Sr (Reeves)

SS: Allen Gant Jr/Sr

FS: Jarrod Wilson Sr/Sr

Reeves isn't playing WR. He said he's being recruited as a CB.

Also, I would be pretty surprised if Pharaoh Brown doesn't redshirt, and we might need Kalis to play his freshman year. Other than that, I like it.

Your list presumes that this class takes 4 wide receivers. With none on the board yet and only 5 spots left in the class that is kind of unlinkely. It's still a good list though. I hope all those guys pan put and the starting lineup looks almost exactly like that.

OTOH it doesn't account for the absolute monster classes Hoke could have in the next few years. If he can get to nine or so this year, we have a lot of room in the 2013 class (that's what reading the roster is telling me, but what the hell do I know?) and those could be even more ridiculous than this one.

You're probably right that a better way to go about this would be something like "Upperclassman 4* OT" and "Underclassman 5* RB" or something similar to that.

Edit: Just to ask, I count 26 players leaving after 2012, is that correct? With even five walkons normal attrition should get the 2013 class into the 22-23 range, right?

It's fun to speculate but who knows. Undoubtedly, someone will get hurt or transfer when the going gets tough. Not to mention they'll be some unknown freshmen or sophmore who snags a starting job from someone. That's when we'll know we're back!

Starters as freshman...

 • Anthony Carter
 • Chad Henne
 • Mike Hart
 • Rick Leach
 • Mario Manningham

and that's just the first five I can think of. This is an interesting projection no doubt, but there are always surprises in the starting lineup. The thing to take away from this list I think is that Hoke and the assistants are recruiting well across the board at many positions with good balance.

These projections never work. I would bet a few bajillion dollars in monopoly money that in the next few years (2013+) that we get another recruit that will start as a freshmen or sophomore (due to injuries, NFL entry, or simply more talent)...

But, hopefully, your right...and this class is THE GREATEST EVER!!!! But, seeing how texas' class is even better than ours, they would have THE GREATEST GREATEST EVER!!!!
Our haul is good. Its a start, by no means a finish. We need to have classes like this or better every year to get back to where we want. Recruit the Midwest, hard. Then you can cherry pick talent elsewhere. But, in the end, we need to win. Winning cures everything. Winning=easier to get talent from a distance.
