[Updated]: Michigan Football makes a dream come true. [Edited to add info and a link]

Submitted by Griff88 on August 31st, 2022 at 3:36 AM

Angelique Chengelis, writes a great story about Dametrius "Meechie" Walker. At one time he was a 3 star recruit who dreamed of playing college football. Unfortunately, he was stricken with cancer, that is now terminal. Jim Harbaugh and his team, did something pretty special for this young man. You won't hear about it from the likes of Valenti or Sabin, but rather than me tell it, read the article. Angelique deserves the clicks, and the video will warm your heart... Think I got something in my eye. God Bless Meechie and his family... and God Bless Jim Harbaugh and his team.

Let's fire up the Michigan Money Cannon and help Meechie fund the cancer treatments he needs!] -rob f

This is a perfect example of why you should always take a second and examine the facts before rushing to criticize.   It is a shame that your post is the first everyone will see. This story was well worth posting.   Hopefully none of us have to suffer as much as Meechie is, but if any of us do, hopefully we can do it with at least half his grace and strength.  Hopefully others will take the time to read Angelique’s article.    Thank you OP for pointing it out.

Amazes me that despite the fact that Idevon’s post has negative points, multiple people have plussed his post.   Can’t fathom how someone could read Angeliique’s new story that was linked in the OP and conclude that yes, I want to give kudos to the guy who suggested that this was inappropriately posted.

Well, I missed it then anyway, and further:

1)  fair number of people visit this place only infrequently during OT season, so a fair number of people probably missed it.

2) It is worthwhile enough to post again regardless as it is both a moving story and this is our school doing work in the community.

So, *sticks tongue out*

Character, integrity, helping those less fortunate or who face adversity / struggle with a condition in life.

These days - with the focus on money - the more important things in life can get lost - or at least may not be as visible.

Actions like this - spending time with children at Mott’s - donating to causes which have impacted communities - giving back - putting a smile on a face - creating a memory for people to hold on to.

Turning talented boys into responsible men - who will be husbands - fathers - active in their communities.  That is transformational - and, it’s part of Michigan’s culture.  Jerry Hanlon was recorded with the A2 Kiwanis Club a handful of years ago, and talked about it.  It’s on You Tube and worth checking out.

Damn I teared up looking at that cover picture...  What a brave, beautiful soul that young man is.  So thankful the Wolverines brought him some joy.

Can't help but admire his mindset. Knowing that it is a very real, if not extremely likely possibility that you are facing death in the not-so-distant future, and approaching it with as much positivity and determination as he is....I can't say for certain that I'd be able to have the same kind of will and composure.

I hope that clinical trial works for him. No child should ever have to grow up without their father.
