... but didn't want to be catty
Honestly this award ought to just be for the runner up since it's a given that Stanford will win every year.

Stanford rules all the country club sports.
They do. For better or worse, the things that come to mind for Stanford Athletics are:
1. Jim Harbaugh used to coach their and built their football team.
2. The Cal run back.
3. The swimmer who got probation
4. McCaffery
5. Tiger Woods used to play there
6. Director's cup winners.
7. Bill Walsh and Dennis Green
8. The Michigan fullback who transferred there and then played in the pros.

UNC won it the first time (1993-94). Every year since it's been Stanford.
We've finished second once (2003-04) but have a lot of other top-five finishes.

Fuck Ohio State.
I'll just leave this here.
But how DID those suck ass bastards finish ahead of us?
They are pretty much on a roll right now, the way we were in the '90s. It's time to turn the tide on them . . .
No one will ever mistake it for Michigan, Cal Tech or UCLA, but it's a great school now in its own right.

If OSU is now a "great" academic institution, literally every other mainstream state school is "great". OSU is at about the same academic level as Florida, Minnesota, Maryland, Arizona, and Rutgers. OSU is academically "solid", but not great.
As for the director's cup, OSU has become very strong in the country club sports as well. Michigan is strong in the Olympic Sports, but OSU is very strong in both Men's and Women's tennis, and they won the Big Ten in women's golf as well. Obviously, OSU is also very strong in football (football didn't help us out last year for these standings). Also, baseball underperformed for Michigan and over performed for OSU, and arguably softball should have gotten more points (we finished in a tie for 5th in Softball; making the top 4 would've yielded more points).
Michigan has been very strong in running (track and XC) and pool events (swimming for both genders, and water polo). If football can emerge as a sport to start winning points, and baseball, basketball and soccer start doing a little better, we should be golden.
is better than fourth.
