UM Hockey Game

Feels good to end the night with win but boy did the team look a bit sloppy after the first period. Probably nothing to be too concerned about. Red knows how to get guys flying. The student section was quite good. Loved the addition of the horns. Should be another fun year.

I was the guy who danced during the intermissions. Brian's a great writer, but offline he's a control freak douchebag. I tried to be nice to him and he just said that i should quit dancing, so i flipped him off. Ask VictorsValiant, he'll tell you it's true.

you should not have been dancing? http://mgoblog.com/content/they-have-technically-dropped-puck **(In the long long ago, there was just one guy who danced. Usually it was Superfan. When Superfan was not there it fell to either 1) guy in a ridiculous costume or 2) most humorously fat guy in the section. Then Jack Johnson came along and his dad did it to the delight of all other than Jack Johnson; after Johnson left about eight different people tried to take the mantle, one of whom was just a complete failure and would not listen to reason, thus causing the long descent into Unapproved Behavior. The unwritten law, now discarded, of Can't Turn You Loose is this order: Jack Johnson Sr Superfan Frankenberry costume or penguin costume guy. Other humorously attired student. Guys dressed up like Blues Brothers Biggest, most ungainly guy in the section is drafted. At no point should anyone who has ever worked for WOLV dance. YES I TAKE THIS VERY SERIOUSLY.)

http://www.windycitynovelties.com/15030p/blue-stadium-horn.html I got a bunch of them online, and in the back of section 17, we played them. 12-14 people so far in our merry troupe. We have some tentative rules so far - namely, not while the real band is playing, very little during actual play (only dead-puck situations), and trying to mix in trombone-like songs to the extend-able horns. We're working on it. If you want one, and you're by that section, I think I could arrange to get one to you for cost.

I haven't been to or watched a game since I graduated in 2003 until tonight. Was the student section doing a seagull chant when they were bringing the puck down? If so, it was both awesome and hilarious. I definitely don't remember doing that while I was there.

It started at the Miami game last year, when someone claimed it was the sound of a Red Hawk. It caught on quickly. It's appropriate usage is when Michigan is short-handed, and the puck is in the opponent's zone. Whoooooping must stop when the puck crosses the red line towards Michigan's net. I haven't heard it outside of the student section - does it sound as absurd as I think it does?

Michigan came out great in the the first 15 minutes, but ended up playing a very poor and sloppy game. Niagara is not a very good team and if Michigan plays like this out East against BU, then they will be in trouble. Positives: solid play by Hogan, the freshmen Brown and Treais looked good, we won. Negatives: Caporusso looked okay but not the same scorer he was last year with Palushaj, our defense looked a little shaky getting the puck out of our zone and gave up numerous odd man rushes, wingers had a tough time scraping the puck off the boards and headmaning on the breakout, and our power play didn't look very good after the 1st period. We should be fine this year and its early, but we need to get a lot better if we expect to win the CCHA.

Went to the game last night. First game of the season for me. I had to miss the exhibition games. Anyone know why they went to bottled pop only at the games? With this change we may eventually have to by glasses to use at home. Our glasses/cups at home are an archeological exploration of the stadium cups at Yost over the years. I agree with Michigan Student's summary. Louie really seemed to struggle/seemed snake bit. Way too many turnovers and unforced errors on our part.
