Twitter activity regarding 2 2022 5* cornerbacks and OSU crystal balls

Submitted by njvictor on October 28th, 2020 at 3:41 PM

So there's a lot to unpack here so bare with me:

In the 2022 class, Michigan has been in on 2 5* cornerbacks:

#3 player in the country Domani Jackson who grew up a Michigan fan and said Michigan is his dream school

#7 player in the country Will Johnson who is a Michigan legacy

Both are set to be visiting Michigan for the Wisconsin game and we were supposed to be in great position to get both

In mid September, Jackson retweet 2 tweets about likely future Michigan commit 2022 4* CB Jaeden Gould

Fast forward to now...

3 crystal balls with confidence level 7 from Steve Lorenz, Tom Loy, and Bill Kurelic to OSU this afternoon

Jackson tweeting at #1 WR Caleb Burton (who also received OSU crystal balls) and Will Johnson to team up.

Bottom line:

OSU might $omehow pull in 3 top 10 players, two of which have Michigan connections... my blood is boiling

I wouldn’t get too worked up about 2022 already.  Domani had a run of picks to go to USC like two weeks ago.

OSU is going to continue to get 5⭐️ Players every year which includes 2022 - whether or not that includes Domani, Will or whoever...  Michigan just has to get the best players it can find to fit its system.

OSU, Bama and Georgia will continue to be the top 3 recruiting teams every year as far as the eye can see - NIL may make it better or worse (at a minimum it should help Michigan given our money cannon).

There's nothing to see here.   Sam says nothing has really changed.  Just let it play out.

As usual, don't believe anything Loy picks and Kurelic isn't much better.

Ok name one other defense named after the D coordinator? They hung 60 on us! Fucking 60 Points. I’m not trying to get to harbaugh the pointing out facts. He didn’t get abused once he got punked 2 years in a row. If that’s ok with you then you must be ok with 9 wins a season no bowl win and a loss to OSU.

It was Steve Wiltfong, not Steve Lorenz, which is an important distinction, as Wiltfong's tend to be more based on who's leading at the moment than something more definitive.

Domani Jackson's response to Kurelic's tweet about his crystal ball to OSU was, wait for it... "lol"

He also added an "lol" when he tweeted at Will Johnson about teaming up together.

My analysis from all of this: don't read too much into a teenager's tweets. Or anyone's tweets for that matter. Actually, just stay off twitter altogether.

A-fucking-men. Got off Facebook like 4 or 5 years ago because my wife (then gf) was wild about FB goings on and the “you liked who’s picture” type of shit. I’ve met a ton of people who are all over social media since, and I have to say it is one of the most liberating feelings to be done with that stuff. Right up there with peeing outside

He responded "lol..." to their crystal balls so that's somewhat comforting. Seems like we have momentum with their upcoming visit. No need to panic yet. Everything related to Jackson has pointed to either USC or Michigan. Only thing I can think would shift his recruitment so drastically is if a certain bag stuffed with paper dropped on his doorstep today.

The Crystal Ball was from Wiltfong, not Lorenz, which is a very important distinction.

Also Sam Webb has said he doesn't think any of the current talk is anything more than Johnson and Jackson having fun with people on Twitter. Both will be visiting Ann Arbor, together, on Nov 14.

Greg Biggins, the west coat recruiting expert, said that while he thinks Jackson's top 3 is OSU, Michigan and USC (probably in that order), it's a tight race and there's plenty of time left since Jackson doesn't want to decide until next summer.

Alex Gleitman, an OSU recruiting guy, said after talking to sources he doesn't feel confident in any CBs for Jackson to OSU.

OSU will still have a top 3, potentially top 1 recruiting class. We'll probably lose a few top targets to them. But any freaking out now is premature.

I do think some of the recruiting experts will cling onto anything and put in crystal balls just to make headlines and gain some clicks. Most likely scenario is that he is just having some fun and he will commit way down the road. With that in mind, maybe Wiltfong knows this crystal ball doesn't matter because it will inevitably change mutliple times before Jackson actually commits.

I'm sure in three weeks we'll see Johnson and Jackson laughing about this in Ann Arbor, decked out in UM gear.

1) Hope you can take some solace in the frankly great news that Jackson is paying his own way to the Super Unofficial Visit Weekend, as is Ceyair Wright

2) They're not gonna get all the elite corners because they're in on because that's just insane. If they get even two of the apparent top 4-5 on their board we should be thrilled

Don’t read into that much. Loy is probably the worst 247 insider next to Drumm and Kurelic is considered the least reliable OSU insider. And while Wiltfong is good he usually puts crystal balls for the teams leading. His old crystal ball was for Jackson to USC.

Never gonna beat out OSU for 5-star kids that want to be in the playoffs until UM proves they can play with playoff teams.  But, there is a lot of time before 2022 to prove that.  A good showing against OSU would go a long way.  But, Coombs is a likable guy, a good DB coach, and a great recruiter.

Donovan Peoples-Jones was Ohio State's top WR recruiting target in 2017. Some kids would rather play at Michigan.

You're right, it's not never.  It's more like 80% of the time.  UM also got Aurbrey Solomon, Dax Hill, & Chris Hinton as 5-stars since then.  But, those are the exception and not the norm.  In that same time frame OSU has 17 5-stars that chose OSU over UM.  See Treveyon Henderson, Donovan Jackson, Jack Sawyer, Julian Flemming, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Zach Harrison, Garrett Wilson, Harry Miller, NPF, Taron Vincent, Tyreke Johnson, Chase Young, Jeff Okaduh, Baron Browning, Shaun Wade, & Wyatt Davis.
