Tressel on Pryor: "he's a compassionate human being"

Submitted by A Case of Blue on
"Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said Tuesday that quarterback Terrelle Pryor included a tribute to Michael Vick on his face during the Buckeyes’ opener because “there’s probably not a more compassionate human being in the world than Terrelle.” In Saturday’s 31-27 win over Navy, Pryor had lettering on his eyeblack patches in honor of his sister and also Vick. After the game, Pryor said he loved Vick and didn’t think the NFL quarterback was getting a fair shake from people critical of his role in bankrolling a dogfighting ring." http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=ap-t25-ohiost-pryor&pro…

I'm sure Vick was feeling really compassionate as he sent dog after dog to slaughter. Tressel just needs to be honest: Prior was a dumbass for doing what he did and probably feels as such now. That would end the discussion

This response seems a little (read: a LOT) over the top. All he needed to say, if anything, was that Pryor didn't do a very good job of expressing what he was trying to say, namely that he thinks Vick deserves a second chance and wanted to support him. There's nothing wrong with that. However, most compassionate person in the world is most certainly false, and now the media gets one more tidbit to write/talk about. Meh, whatever.

There really isn't anything wrong with what Pryor did - I think it's a little silly, but he's free to say what he wants. What's funny about Tressel's comments, to me, is that none of this compassion appears to extend to the animal that were killed by Vick's operation. I think all the hand-wringing about Vick is overkill, for sure - he served his time, and unless and until he messes up, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt - but still, Pryor is kind of inadvertently hilarious.

The thing I find odd about this is that either kids are allowed to write whatever they want on their face or Tressell OK'd it. Where is the line? Will he write O.J. on his face next week? As a coach, I would probably want to have some control so this kind of controversy is avoided.

Compassionate to who? Michael Vick? "Mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the innocent." I get that Vick's served his time and paid his debt, but "everybody murders" is a really odd way to stick up for your guy.

Tressel went as far as to say that "there's probably not a more compassionate human being in the world than Terrelle." So, this misguided 18-year-old, in support of a man who killed dogs, is more compassionate than the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, and Mother Teresa? This seems like a stretch, even for the Senator. Maybe someone's a little jealous of the positive attention given to a certain Florida QB? Here's a start - don't blindly support a guy who drowns, hangs, and electrocutes losing dogs. That would show compassion. Taking the next two seasons off for medical missions wouldn't hurt either...

Compassionate?? Maybe. Articulate?? No freakin way. Between Pryor and Patricia Heaton you can see why people question the academics at OSU. "Everybody murders".......great stuff.

C'mon guys, don't you see what he means? We have all murdered, thieved, and so forth in the metaphorical sense. He is poetically expressing the imperfect human nature of....okay I can't do this anymore. That was just a retarded thing to say. I mean...I guess when I was a kid I did have a red ant fight a lady bug for my own enjoyment once, but when the ladybug lost, I just squashed him with my boot. No torture involved. Just a clean and instantaneous death.

Well that clears it all up. At first I had no idea why Pryor would say that but now I know he is singularly the most compassionate person that has ever lived and that really clears up his comment.

Let's all give Pryor a break. Can't you see how compassionate he was when he almost started that riot at his high school basketball game a few years ago? Or how about when he started a fight amongst his teammates during TOSu's spring game? It just all begins in the heart.

TP couldn't decide to honor his sister or Vick with his eye black, how do you expect him to decide what receiver to throw to? [Hmm, I think I might have done that wrong.]
