Top247 released

Submitted by Dreisbach1817 on

Just another Rankings service delivering food for thought.  Of course, many of these decisons are arbitrary.  But the biggest surprise for me was seeing Matt Godin at #239 but no Danny O'Brien.  While not as pervasive as Scout or Rivals, 247 is definitely making a name for itself, especially on Twitterland.

Enjoy.

but what the hell is 247?  It seems like a lot of team blogs are affiliated with or have 247 in their hyperlink, but now it's ranking players?  Any help for a lazy fuck would be appreciated

24/7 is backed by the original founders of Rivals who sold out to Yahoo a few years ago. These guys are arguably more legit than the current crop of Rivals writers/execs.

Bill King, formerly of Rivals Radio on SiriusXm, jumped ship to get the band back together and it's now 24/7 Radio as of a month ago.

Not sure their network is that strong yet, but the foundation is legit...

He has a whole new cast of characters around him, but it's still all college football all morning long...they definitely have a little work to do with some of the school affiliates they have on the air, but their key analysts seem good. And Bill King is the bomb.

I have been on 247sports couple times to see what is going on.  They dodn't have a dedicated Michigan page, but there are rumors that thewolverine.com, who is affiliated with rivals right now will switch to 247 when their contract expires.

Rivals.com have been losing lots of subscribers to 247sports lately.  247sports have actual mods and analysts who answer questions on the message boards.  Rivals is now trying to do the same thing, but seems too little too late.

I haven't seen many questions about Michigan recruits asked, but they are really good about getting to questions that people ask.  I wish they would get a Michigan site soon so that more information about our recruits gets published.

I guess Ideadi Odenigbo was really under the radar to start.  I know this is 247sports, but he wasn't even considered as a rivals 250 watch list guy.  I'm sure he will be in the rivals 250 when it gets published.

I think they're both weakside defensive ends.  If either were going to be an OLB, I would probably put Odenigbo there.  He's a better overall athlete, changes direction better, etc.  It all depends on the defense, though.

If it's what we're going to see out of Michigan this year, I'd put Odenigbo at SAM and Pittman at DE.

It could be the lack of a midwest analyst.

I guess subscribers made enough complaints for the rivals staff to post this:

"We understand the concerns many posters have shared regarding our vacant Midwest analyst position. We have been working to fill that role as soon as we can.

The assumption that evaluations of Midwest prospects and coverage of recruiting has stopped is incorrect.

Since day one of the vacancy, our analyst team has made a concerted effort to make sure Midwest prospects are being evaluated.

In addition, our team sites in the Midwest have done an outstanding job stepping up their coverage of recruiting news."
