Top 2024 QB Recruiting Overview w/Info on Current and Previous Michigan QB Targets

If you follow recruiting outside of MGoBlog, this post probably won't have any new info for you.

The article ("Quarterback dominoes beginning to topple in 2024 recruiting class") by Steve Wiltfong at 247 covers the national picture for the 2024 QB class.

Some items of note:

  • Dylan Raiola of Arizona is the #1 overall recruit in the class, and he chose Ohio State, though there's plenty of interest from USC and Georgia
  • Jadyn Davis, the #2 ranked QB from North Carolina, was also heavily pursued by Ohio State, Raiola's commitment has made the path clearer for Michigan
  • CJ Carr bummed out many Michigan fans, but the article claims that he has long wanted to leave home

QB position has never been more valuable than in todays game.  We need to hit a home run with another QB. Scared to death what would happen if JJ got hurt.

By my count, Cade appeared in 4 games in 2020, appeared in all games in 2021, and so far this year, has appeared in 3 games. Given that the 4-game "redshirt" limit began in 2018, if Cade plays in only one more or no more games this year, he will preserve what should be 3 years of eligibility to play elsewhere, if that's his (and Harbaugh's) goal.

There's no doubt now that it's JJ's huddle for the next two seasons (burned his redshirt in 2021)

I understand why a top QB would pick OSU thinking that he can showcase his talents in a prolific offense, but I also don't understand because there is a wealth of damning evidence that OSU quarterbacks are complete flops in the NFL.

When has a top tier B1G quarterback lacked the self-confidence to think, I won't flop in rhe NFL like so-and-so? I don't think those kids think much beyond winning in college and getting drafted.

Telly you what, I'd love to see the NFL draft add a round or two, and allow teams to draft the rights of sophomore or older collegiate players. It would help kids that need a little more development to stay in school, add a little stability to the college game, possibly level out NIL money among the top players. QBs especially would benefit from this, I feel.

Eh, maybe he’s planning on the burrows timeline. Commit to OSU, hangout as a backup a couple years and then xfer to a school that has everything but a good qb, win all the games, win the Heisman and NC, and then get drafted high, maybe even to an nfl team that kinda has everything but a good qb and take that team to a super bowl in a couple of years. Could happen.

What I am curious about is UGA with Davis. Sure, there was supposed talks that he stopped considering them because of UGA grabbing a qb, but to me, seems like he is a backup qb. I thought Sayin was highly regarded at UGA and was his destination? Not entirely sure about that, but wonder if they come knocking on the door again, making him “the guy” next year? Though, it seems like it’s hard to make up ground with the good guys, especially with him possibly committing wherever years end

What are you looking at? Only QB I see from UGA was #220 Player and 17 ranked QB. Don’t see a 5 star committed to them.

Unless I am missing something, I was on the assumption UGA was going to land Sayin, thus having the #220 as a backup. With Sayin out of the fold, I can’t help but think they start to rekindle things with Davis since option 1 went to Bama. Plus, his teammate committed down there doesn’t help either. Again, this is based off what I see on 247. So, I’m not sure how valid this is.

How hard did Michigan go after CJ Carr?  Was it mainly NIL that pushed Moore to Oregon?  As we know, Harbaugh is big on cultural fit for the program.  Maybe Carr and Moore didn't fit the culture like McNamara and McCarthy.  Trying to think outside the box as to why the recruit chose another school or why Harbaugh didn't pursue hard enough.
