TomVH: MaxPreps Article on '12 Dorial Green
If you haven't heard of Dorial Green-Beckham yet, you will soon. He's a soon to be junior and is 6-foot-6, 220-pounds. Stephen Spiewak wrote an awesome article about his struggles with an alcoholic mother, and what kind of athlete he is. It's really worth a read.
Some quotes that stuck out to me:
His basketball coach about Dorial's role on the basketball team:
"There were times where he'd bring the ball down, pass and post up, and we'd throw him the ball down in the post," Schaefer said. "I know that sounds pretty crazy, but that did happen a couple different games."
Dorial's mother had a drug and alcohol problem, and they bounced around as kids:
At one point, they stayed in the basement of a relative, who locked the door to deny them access to other parts of the house. The children would sneak in and out of a window to get food.
Take a look at the article, it's a pretty amazing story.
The Patrick Willis story is one of my favorites. I hope nothing but success for Green and I hope he sees himself in Maize and Blue one day!
are family poison like nothing else.
Stay above it, Kid! Get high around the rim, not around some pushers. (Holy crap, that was corny!)
These are the types of stories you here and you wonder how some of these people get through all of this and come out on top or in his case to become one of the best athletes in the country for he class of 2012.
This is truly inspiring and you can only wish the best for him and hope he does great things.
p.s. hopefully hose great things are in a michigan uniform
...thats the impression that i get
/but seriously this guy is incredible.
Have you ever had to knock on wood?
I know someone who has.
It makes me wonder if I could.
How many kids don't get out of a life like that..
"get high on life" -- but seriously ...
It'll always great to hear stories about people who've overcome their surroundings and made something of their lives.
Best of luck to this kid wherever he lands, and best of luck to anyone else in his situation serious about making a better life for themselves/their families
That was an excellent article. Good luck to Dorial and his family with the rest of high school and the recruitment process!
I know on Magnus' recruiting board it says that he has a Michigan offer... can anyone back this up?
