Tom Brady: Vindictive SOB
It seems Oakland was, in fact, in play. It was revealed by Dana White of UFC (not sure why he was involved) and confirmed by Gronk that before they signed with the Bucs, Brady and Gronk going to Oakland was nearly a done deal when Gruden nixed it.
Brady was on HBO's The Shop and spoke of a team that didn't want him, questioning why they would be, "sticking with that motherf...er?" Said MFer was apparently Derek Carr. He went on to say that because they rejected him, "he was going to f... (them) up!" He did that the next season when the Bucs beat the Raiders 45-20 with Brady going 33/45 for 369 yds, 4 TD, 0 INT, and a rushing TD.
You don't talk about Fight Club and you don't mess with Tom Brady.

Derek Carr is no Tom Brady, but hindsight is 2020. At the time, Derek Carr was 29 years old and while he hasn't been a world beater, he has shown that with the right parts he can get it done. When he had both Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree the team had a solid passing attack.
I could understand why Gruden would want a 29-year-old QB over a 40-year-old QB.
I'm as big of a Brady fan as there is, but I'm shocked he continues to play at this level. I can't fault someone for not putting their career on the line for a 40 year old QB.
That said, Gruden put his neck on the line by being an asshole and so the whole thing doesn't matter anyway.

Merc, just about any (non-injured) NFL past-40 vet would love to continue to play, they just can’t do what Brady does. So what if he has to create windmills to tilt at, if that is what keeps his juices flowing.

If it's Tom Brady, then your foresight should be 20/20 too.

Brady is like Michael Jordan. He always finds a slight to motivate him. Despite all of his success, he continues to have a huge chip on his shoulder. Even bigger than a Sparty.
August 23rd, 2022 at 12:03 PM ^
His chip on the shoulder is bigger than a Sparty chip on the shoulder or bigger than a Sparty himself?
Probably bigger than both.

Que the 'why not both' gif.

The chip. Sparty has fed on imagined disrespect for decades. Dantonio delivered it to them intravenously.

Brady's notion of "deflating his balls" might be a little different then Michael's.

I was thinking "vindictive" was too negative a word.
But I looked it up. Nope: "a strong desire for revenge." Sounds about right.

I used to think that revenge was a dish best served cold.
Then I learned it meant: to get back at someone.

Laughing again.

But why bring his Mom into it?

Proving once again that Jon Gruden is a Moran.
August 23rd, 2022 at 2:53 PM ^
There are certain Head Coaches, Shanahan in S.F. and Gruden for example, whose egos won't let an Alpha QB come to take all the "shine." Gruden made a questionable move but it all worked out for Tompa Bay.
August 24th, 2022 at 4:02 PM ^
Gruden got most of his rep in year one in Tampa, where he was fortunate to inherit an insanely talented team and face a SB opponent that had not changed their checks from the prior year when he was head coach.
If not for the laziness of Bill Callahan we might have forgotten about Gruden many years ago.
August 23rd, 2022 at 10:57 PM ^
We still can't get this right?
August 23rd, 2022 at 12:10 PM ^
Gruden is a dumb sob anyways so Brady was better off.
August 23rd, 2022 at 12:57 PM ^
Sounds like Gruden had a bad case of Brandonitis. Didn't want to bring in anyone who would outshine him or whom he couldn't control.
August 23rd, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
I'll take any reason to laugh at the Raiders.

He's the GOAT QB, but also sounds like he has the emotional maturity of a child.
August 23rd, 2022 at 12:44 PM ^
I don’t think there is anything wrong with being pissed off when you’re the GOAT.
The best Quarterback of all time wanted to go “home” to play with the Raiders and they chose an average QB over him.
August 23rd, 2022 at 3:29 PM ^
Also, "the emotional maturity of a child" is an interesting insight by Dr. Phil's comment above yours. There are athletes in every professional sport taking filthy in-game cheap hits at other athletes, for the slightest or most imaginary of reasons.
And after Mark Dantonio's "little brother" douchery, it's kind of hard to criticize a grown adult criticizing other grown adult in the same profession. Tom Brady felt slighted by their actions, and apparently used it to fuel his abilities. Pretty sure that's a good tactic, used by people in every industry. But apparently it's totally inappropriate and immature for Tom Brady to talk about it publicly.
Shut up and do your job, Tom Brady. /s

Was he supposed to try to play like crap against them?
August 23rd, 2022 at 12:37 PM ^
What's really delicious about this is a reporter asks Mark Davis if the Dana White story is true.
Davis says a lot of words but doesn't say anything:
“I heard about [White’s comments],” Davis said, via the Review-Journal. “That was what, two to three years ago or something? I don’t know. Talk to Dana. I remember that Tom Brady went to Tampa Bay. That’s basically what I remember."
So Davis' tap dancing around this basically confirms the org's incompetence got them again.

Unresolved tuck rule baggage that is now resolved…
August 23rd, 2022 at 4:37 PM ^
I thought it came out via the tampering documents that the team/QB Brady was referring to was the Dolphins/Ryan Fitzpatrick...

Two things that happened three years apart. Try to keep up. Nice you upvoted yourself twice though.
