Today's random questions, XM style
XM, hope you don't mind me sort of stealing your bit.
1) You can reverse one call: The Block Was Clean or JT Was Short?
2) More schadenfreudelicious: MSU football game 2007 or MSU football game 2019?
3) One shot to make you coronavirus immune: Zavier Simpson at the free throw line or Simpson with an uncontested 3?
4) Would you rather: Watch paint dry or read a blog post about hockey recruiting?
5) Bigger villain: Izzo or Dantonio?
My answers:
1) JT was short. It guarantees the win.
2) 2007
3) Free throw line...god help me.
4) Paint drying is actually fascinating.
5) Dantonio
Clean Block - 'ship >> everything
2019 (waving dot gif)
Free throw - I understand percentages
Hockey 'cruting
Izzo - Dantonio at least got some consequences
Agreed with all the above except the last one, but the last one is pretty close.
What consequences did he get? A $4.3M retirement present?
Not bad for forcing a school to admit a known sexual abuser.
I'm under the impression that the lawsuit is still open
If they called it a clean block it was still far from a guaranteed win. JT short was literally game over so I'm going with that.
i am the king of stupid questions! do not try and dethrone me. you have failed, in that your questions are actually good. hah! i am still the king (of stupid questions). will supply answers later.
I kinda like your questions.
aw, thanks will. incidentally, i know you had some health challenges. are things going okay now?
I’m doing better. Still legally blind and there isn’t a cure. Progressive vision loss. Also, my ex had an affair with a coworker and left me. I’ve been sorting out how life will be for me without the ability to drive. There are some really great resources out there. I’m going to be ok.
oh man, that is tough. i'm very sorry about that. if we did something for ace, is there anything we can do for you?
Holy cow that’s rough sorry to hear about your ex.
i also have progressive vision loss, Ushers Type 2. Found out a couple years ago but I’m still kind of coming to terms with it. How are you handling it?
I’m okay with it. Found out about mine in 2014. Choroideremia is what I have. Because it is a slow progression of loss I am able to plan ahead. So that makes things easier.
XM - I have lots of support right now so I’m good. I do appreciate the gesture though. I do go to Kellogg Eye Center because they are the absolute best. They get me pointed towards resources I need.
pulling for you.
i had to look that up. here it is for those who are concerned:

1) THE_GAME was referee homecooked
2) 2019
3) That 3...
4) Technicalities of paint drying could be interesting
5) All the above
1. JT was short. Michigan wins, ends the streak(s), wins the Big Ten, wins the National Championship and almost certainly prevents the current pandemic as well.
2. 2007. Was at the game, so enjoyable when that place died after the Manningham catch.
3. So now I have COVID-19
4. There's a site that covers hockey recruiting???
5. Dantonio.
- JT was short.
- 2007
- Uncontested three. Z became an okay 3 point shooter
- I do not care about hockey recruiting so paint drying
- Dan7onio
1) JT was short.
2) 2007
3) Open 3. Why not.
4) Paint drying. I've actually done it.
5) Dantonio. This isn't even close. Izzo is annoying, but D was at a whole other level.
1) JT WAS SHORT, i saw it with my own eyes
2) 2019
3) 3 point
4) love hockey, give me the blog post.
5) Izzo, His program is still very strong, Dantonio was never going to make it back to where he was.
1) JT was short
2) 2019
3) Free Throw line, more critical down the stretch of a game for someone with the ball in their hands so often
4) Hockey recruiting
5) Dantonio. But Izzo's sideline whining irks me to no end
Umm, #3 is just a fucking evil question.
1. JT was short
2. 2007
3. Free throw
4. Hockey
5. Dantonio - having stood next to Izzo and confirmed the angry midget thing firsthand (he really does wear high-heeled footwear when he’s out and about) I find it hard to take him very seriously
I’ll do you one better on the Izzo front - I was within 15 feet of him the whole game at Crisler this year and had no urge to inflict any nefarious acts to his person (He even shook my hand cordially). Now Dantonio ... I might need xm’s legal services if I were on the same sideline as him.
that'd be a pro-bono case. although, if i was there with you we might have been co-defendants....
1) JT Was Short -- the block wouldn't have 100% guaranteed the win, while JT being short would have. And, OSU win in the Horseshoe may be more important than a B-Ball natty
2) 2019 -- just a beautiful beatdown
3) Uncontested 3
4) Hockey recruiting
5) Izzo -- Dantonio is the more miserable douche, but Izzo has all the villain qualities by being an animated midgee
1. The block. A national title >>> beating OSU.
2. Neither. For me it’s 2016. MSU has been kicking our ass the previous 7 of 8 years and their fans were so sure they were gonna win at home.
3. We’re all gonna die of COVID
4. Hockey recruiting. Hockey is the greatest sport in the universe. Physicality of football, hand eye coordination of baseball, and athleticism of basketball. All on ice.
5. Tied. Honesty, the entire University and local police/district attorneys allowed them complete freedom. I mean, if you knew you could do damn near anything you wanted, short of killing someone, with zero legal repercussions, and if those shitty actions led to more pay, bonuses and support from your employer? Who knows how far you’d stretch your morals. I know I’d struggle with them in that scenario.
1. JT was short - changed the entire trajectory of the football program.
2. 2019
3. I'm definitely going to get it and suffer greatly I'm sure.
4. Paint drying....not really that close.
5. Dantonio
I wish we'd won the title game, but the block doesn't necessarily mean we won. JT was short means that game is over. I'll take that one.
I'm surprised you aren't a fan of hockey 'crootin XM. Aren't you a hockey alum?
XM hasn't weighed in yet.
trying to make a long-story-short, when i graduated i immediately moved out west and basically nearly completely disconnected from hockey for a while. this long predates the internet, social media, and most cell phones. even pagers were kind of new. also, then i got back into football and played for many years. when we moved back home and my sons were getting of age i would coach them in mites and we all enjoyed it. but for family reasons (time, cost, travel, the farm, sunday hockey all the time, etc.) i didn't let them play beyond mites and so any focus of sports was football and secondarily basketball, plus some other sports.
1) Bock was clean, that was a Championship.
2) 2019, I work with so many more Sparties now.
3) Free Throw.
4) Body paint on Kate Upton or other model, the paint. Otherwise hockey.
5) Dantonio
1) You can reverse one call: The Block Was Clean or JT Was Short? JT was short. I still remember Meyer running up and down the sideline exhorting the OSU crowd. I was furious.
2) More schadenfreudelicious: MSU football game 2007 or MSU football game 2019? 2019 game. We were there and it was one my alltime favorite Big House games.
3) One shot to make you coronavirus immune: Zavier Simpson at the free throw line or Simpson with an uncontested 3? That’s a tough one. I guess a free throw. Uuuggghhh... still love the guy though!
4) Would you rather: Watch paint dry or read a blog post about hockey recruiting? Paint dry. I’ve never gotten into the hockey thing.
5) Bigger villain: Izzo or Dantonio? Definitely Dantonio although I don’t know a bigger whiner than Izzo.
Block happened with 5 minutes to play. Too much time to say for sure how that game ends. I'll take JT was Short.
2019 MSU football already knew they were terrible so I felt more apathy than anything so I'll take 2007.
Free Throw.
Hockey
They both suck.
1) Emotionally, JT was short was more enraging to me, so I'll got with that one.
2) 2007 all the way
3) Free throw line with fingers and toes crossed
4) Because I could no longer claim "ain't got the time", I was forced into painting the laundry room last week. I actually had to watch paint dry to make sure coverage was good and one coat was going to do the trick. Damn corona virus. So, we're going with "paint drying" for $100, Alex.
5) Dantonio
1) JT was short. Easy, that could have easily changed the rivalry and the course of the program.
2) 2007 was probably a better game, but I'll say 2019 because it signifies the end of their brief stint as relevant in the college football world.
3) Free throw line. His percentages are higher there.
4) Hockey recruiting. Those posts are interesting if a bit rambling. It's hard to write about hockey recruiting since it's so fluid and convoluted. I mean Michigan seems to be in great shape but I have no clue how they compare to other teams.
5) Man thats tough. Izzo gets worshiped by the media for some reason that no one can figure out. But Dantonio is a smug asshole. I guess I'll go Dantonio because he seems to actively promote a criminal culture that leads to the average student getting hurt. I mean the pregame walk incident encapsulates how he wants them to be on field. Then that spills over into the university community with the laptop stealing, the jumping hockey players, the sexual assaults and so on. You can make an argument Izzo has had similar issues, but I think its more turning a blind eye than seeking out troubled recruits and then playing up those tendencies, which is what Dantonio does.
1. JT was short. Because that would stop all the moaning about it on this board.
2. 2019. Because my memory span is short. But 2018, with Devin will stand out over the years. If that were a choice.
3. Too late. Already have it. free throw to relieve the suffering.
4. I’d argue that the intricacies of hockey recruiting are more complex than the chemical processes occurring in paint drying and I’m a simple minded man, so I’ll go with the paint.
5. Izzo. Because he’s better at hiding it. Dantonio was at best a street smart capo.
1) JT. Football is more important than basketball, and a W in Columbus changes the entire outlook of the Harbaugh tenure.
2) 2007 - road game, come from behind, shut up the lifelong MSU/App State fans, and spawned the greatest and most accurate fanbase nickname ever.
3) Going to play the percentages and say free throw
4) GTFOH with hockey recruiting shade. At least hockey recruiting is informative and newsworthy, with players choosing leagues and drafts and such. 80% of basketball and football recruiting is "player X put this sick photoshop on his Twitter"
5) Dantonio. Izzo might be a phoney but I think he's just a creature of the system. He's not much worse than the other basketball coaches of his generation, and he does have tons of success to back it up. Dantonio, on the other hand, is genuinely awful. He makes guys like Saban and Meyer look like nice, affable dudes. He was an actual dick talking about Mike Hart in 07, and supporting the on-field assaults in 13-14, and claiming he didn't know what was going on before the 2018 game. And all of that is before considering off-field sexual misconduct by his players. Even by MSU coach standards, he's uniquely toxic.
1. JT was short. The block does not, in any way, guarantee a win; brings the probability up to 50%, perhaps.
More interesting to me would be, would I prefer a win in one of the two basketball national title games, or a win in one of the two M-OSU games that could vault Michigan into the playoff? That's a hard question, but given what it means for the trajectory of the program and the desperate need I have to see Michigan beat Ohio, I probably take the OSU win.
2. 2007 but it's like picking between your children.
3. Z was a 60% FT shooter this year. Not great, but not bad. Easy choice.
4. Hockey recruiting! All the way. In fact, in my heaviest hockey days, I knew a lot of the best prospects everywhere, and could (and did) watch some of them play at the Cube on the NTDP. The 2010 and 2014 Olympic teams were fun in part because I had been following some of those guys since they were teenagers.
5. If #2 is choosing between your children, this is choosing between forms of cancer. But I guess Dantonio is the bigger villain right now, subject to change if we find that Izzo has concealed more crimes than we're aware of.
i won't waste any time answering, and instead i'd adopt SRJK's answers virtually word-for-word.
i have enjoyed the humor of so many other answers though. good stuff.
1. JT was short - without a doubt. I think if this call was reversed then the entire trajectory of the football program would be on the elite level.
2. 2019 - 2007 was great but Dantonio hadn't shown his ass like he had by 2019. It was extremely satisfying to plaster them after hearing all summer from MSU fans that they would be great.
3. Free throw line, but not very confident in either.
4. Watch paint dry
5. Dantonio - I wouldn't be nearly as satisfied if Izzo's program crashed and burned, so it has to be Dantonio
1. JT was short all day. The foul call was egregious but even without those two FTs, M was still outscored 13-12 from the point the call was made. I actually recently re-watched that game and in my head I always thought that call was made much closer to the end of the game. I was surprised that there was still 5+ minutes left in the game.
2. 2007
3. FT Line
4. ummm paint dry?
5. Izzo
We lost 2017.
Edited thanks... I think I was stuck between 2007 and 2019
1. JT was short, because Fuck them, that’s why
2. 2019 because fuck them
3. Uncontested 3... ?
4. Hockey recruiting, dumb question
5. f both guys
Dumb question? Dumb question?!
At the time I write this, the count is unofficially 14-11 hockey, probably one of the more hotly contested items.
1) You can reverse one call: The Block Was Clean or JT Was Short? JT was short...still burns me
2) More schadenfreudelicious: MSU football game 2007 or MSU football game 2019? Both...MSU football is schadenfreude
3) One shot to make you coronavirus immune: Zavier Simpson at the free throw line or Simpson with an uncontested 3? Not worried about corona virus immunity.
4) Would you rather: Watch paint dry or read a blog post about hockey recruiting? Watch paint dry...hockey...zzzzz never had interest unless I was being paid in the press box.
5) Bigger villain: Izzo or Dantonio? Izzo...he's a filthy fuck. Parades around like he cares about anything but winning any way he can. Dantonio is close level douchery but I think he generally tries
I usually don't have time to participate in this kind of thing, but here it is.
1. The block was clean. I choose that because I know the block was clean. Not sure about JT.
2. MSU 2019. 2007, although a win, was a harbinger of years of distress. 2019 is a harbinger of distress for MSU. Much better.
3. Simpson with a 3. Statistically this is wrong.
5. 4 is missing so I will move on to 5. Dantonio. But either is a good choice.
1. JT was short. I don't know if we beat Alabama or Clemson, but the whole narrative around the program changes with that win.
2. 2007.
3. FT line.
4. Hockey Recruiting
5. Izzo. We gifted him the Brian Ellerbe years. If that's not enough, his teams always seemed to find themselves either in the easiest brackets or beneficiaries of upsets clearing a path to the Final Four.
I dislike Izzo just as much as the next guy, but I would say that a similar argument for the 2018 Michigan team could be made (seeds faced: 14, 6, 7, 9, 11, 1) . Plus, that's why they play the tournament.. eventually the best teams make their way to the Final Four regardless of seeding.
1. JT WAS SHORT. I love BB, and love the thought of a National Championship, but I hate the Buckeyes with the fire of 10,000 suns.
2. 2019
3. Lord have mercy. Can I shoot it myself?
4. Hockey recruiting
5. Izzo because he's still active. "Never will you find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy." - Obi Wan, commenting on East Lansing.
