Empirically true, but only since no one ever gets shorter in the off-season.

(Well, no college-age player does.  I'm at the point in my old-guy pick-up career that I suspect I'm starting to lose an eighth of an inch or so from one year to the next.  And it's not a good thing)

I went from 5'9" in 12th grade to 6'1" by the start of sophomore year in college.  4" of growth in that time.  I was taking in 4,000 calories a day and my weight held steady.  I was a string bean when I stopped growing.

I'm approaching 60 now, and I've shrunk about 3/4 of an inch.  I'm not sure where that height went, but I'm guessing it's the sum of all the joints in my back and legs compressing a little bit?

You're right about the source of the height loss.  I used to be 6' -1 1/2" for many years, but now (at about your age too) am 6' - 1/2".  My doctor said it's due to the discs in my spine compressing.  (I'm afraid it will get worse as we get older too)

You were basically a smaller version of the "Dennis Rodman" effect, who supposedly left high school at around 5-11" and ended college 6'-8".  I've always found that so strange how some people have that late growth spurt.  I ran into a guy at one of our high school reunions that I was always decidedly taller than, but who now was slightly taller than me.

Which is fine...but don't lose your shit if they're a bubble team if you think they're underrated now in September.

I've seen a lot of people echo this - if they're a bubble team (presumably on par with most expectations), remember that you had them underrated at the beginning of the year.

As far as basketball goes I have always been realistic. Basketball shouldn’t be treated equal to football because there is a giant talent gap. In football we always recruit top 10 and therefor that’s the expectation. All I want is a tournament appearance and top 5 big ten finish. I think that’s very realistic

The comment on Brooks is HUGE. Our guard depth is awful with Poole gone. That said, post depth is awful if Johns starts and Livers moved to the 3. THAT said, Howard being an NBA will likely rely on more of a rotation. That may be your starting 5, but then they pull Johns for Brooks so he can go in for Livers when it's time for Livers to get a breather.

C: Teske
F: Johns
F: Livers
G/F: Wagner
G: Simpson

C: Castleton
G/F: Nunez
G/F: Bajema
G: Brooks/DeJulius
G: DeJulius/Brooks

I just don't think Wagner can guard the 2. Only way I see him getting any time at the 2 is if were running a zone or the opponent has a complete non threat at the position. Plus that lineup puts a hell of a lot of pressure on Simpson as the only ball handler and creator on the court. I think Johns will come off the bench with Brooks/DJ sharing the majority of the minutes at the 2.

I'm suspicious, only in that it falls into the "hype for a player at a position where there aren't a lot of good options and we kind of need this guy to be good" category.

That said, I could talk myself into it ... it's his first year going through Camp Sanderson, he's a junior who's experiencing "the game slowing down for him," was recruited by Villanova so must have better shooting ability than he's shown, etc, etc.

I think making the tournament and perhaps winning one game could be called a successful season for this roster.

Love hearing the positives about Brooks. He has an intriguing game w/ solid vision and passing ability. Good ball handler and we at least saw him shoot the ball well as a freshman, especially early. Him and DeJulius taking another step would be huge.
