All off-season height changes are good height changes.
September 30th, 2019 at 2:12 PM ^
Empirically true, but only since no one ever gets shorter in the off-season.
(Well, no college-age player does. I'm at the point in my old-guy pick-up career that I suspect I'm starting to lose an eighth of an inch or so from one year to the next. And it's not a good thing)
September 30th, 2019 at 2:23 PM ^
That's what she said.
September 30th, 2019 at 4:44 PM ^
According to JH, Ben Mason reportedly got shorter after a summer of playing fullback.

I went from 5'9" in 12th grade to 6'1" by the start of sophomore year in college. 4" of growth in that time. I was taking in 4,000 calories a day and my weight held steady. I was a string bean when I stopped growing.
I'm approaching 60 now, and I've shrunk about 3/4 of an inch. I'm not sure where that height went, but I'm guessing it's the sum of all the joints in my back and legs compressing a little bit?
September 30th, 2019 at 4:08 PM ^
You're right about the source of the height loss. I used to be 6' -1 1/2" for many years, but now (at about your age too) am 6' - 1/2". My doctor said it's due to the discs in my spine compressing. (I'm afraid it will get worse as we get older too)
You were basically a smaller version of the "Dennis Rodman" effect, who supposedly left high school at around 5-11" and ended college 6'-8". I've always found that so strange how some people have that late growth spurt. I ran into a guy at one of our high school reunions that I was always decidedly taller than, but who now was slightly taller than me.
September 30th, 2019 at 6:24 PM ^
When I was 18 I looked like I was about 14. It was hell then. But now I'm 60 and I can pass for 50. So, yea! ;-)

Juwan has been feeding him Miracle Grow since he got the job...?
September 30th, 2019 at 3:19 PM ^
I grew almost two inches in college. It was only from 6'1" to 6'3", but still.
September 30th, 2019 at 3:45 PM ^
I grew about 11 inches a few times a day in college.
Just kidding, I never went to college.

Better check that "1" key on your keyboard. It seems to be sticking.
September 30th, 2019 at 4:41 PM ^
Whole damn keyboard is sticky.
September 30th, 2019 at 9:12 PM ^
I grew 6" in college, Problem is, it was around my waist....
Beer and pizza.....and beer. Ugh.

We gonna shock the world!

Now he needs to share with C4.
September 30th, 2019 at 2:34 PM ^
Can’t wait for him to be introduced as this as a starter one day
September 30th, 2019 at 2:45 PM ^
We just need to make known that he's been so dubbed.
September 30th, 2019 at 1:48 PM ^
Our basketball team is always underrated and I love it. I think there gonna have a great season
September 30th, 2019 at 1:56 PM ^
Which is fine...but don't lose your shit if they're a bubble team if you think they're underrated now in September.
I've seen a lot of people echo this - if they're a bubble team (presumably on par with most expectations), remember that you had them underrated at the beginning of the year.

As far as basketball goes I have always been realistic. Basketball shouldn’t be treated equal to football because there is a giant talent gap. In football we always recruit top 10 and therefor that’s the expectation. All I want is a tournament appearance and top 5 big ten finish. I think that’s very realistic

The comment on Brooks is HUGE. Our guard depth is awful with Poole gone. That said, post depth is awful if Johns starts and Livers moved to the 3. THAT said, Howard being an NBA will likely rely on more of a rotation. That may be your starting 5, but then they pull Johns for Brooks so he can go in for Livers when it's time for Livers to get a breather.
C: Teske
F: Johns
F: Livers
G/F: Wagner
G: Simpson
C: Castleton
G/F: Nunez
G/F: Bajema
G: Brooks/DeJulius
G: DeJulius/Brooks
Davis
September 30th, 2019 at 1:58 PM ^
Davis all by himself assigned to nothing made me laugh uncomfortably.
September 30th, 2019 at 2:03 PM ^
that's kinda funny since "bench poole" was one of the most repeated comments in this blog last season.
September 30th, 2019 at 4:03 PM ^
I just don't think Wagner can guard the 2. Only way I see him getting any time at the 2 is if were running a zone or the opponent has a complete non threat at the position. Plus that lineup puts a hell of a lot of pressure on Simpson as the only ball handler and creator on the court. I think Johns will come off the bench with Brooks/DJ sharing the majority of the minutes at the 2.
September 30th, 2019 at 5:29 PM ^
I'm suspicious, only in that it falls into the "hype for a player at a position where there aren't a lot of good options and we kind of need this guy to be good" category.
That said, I could talk myself into it ... it's his first year going through Camp Sanderson, he's a junior who's experiencing "the game slowing down for him," was recruited by Villanova so must have better shooting ability than he's shown, etc, etc.
October 1st, 2019 at 1:46 AM ^
I like to think that way also but then I remember Derrick Green was recruited by tons of top schools
September 30th, 2019 at 2:04 PM ^
I think making the tournament and perhaps winning one game could be called a successful season for this roster.
September 30th, 2019 at 2:21 PM ^
That`s encouraging information. I don't feel like I can predict yet how good we can be until we see what type of offense and defense we run.
September 30th, 2019 at 2:39 PM ^
McCormick can be a sort of basketball Fred Jackson but still, good to hear.
September 30th, 2019 at 2:46 PM ^
soooooooo he's just like Fred Jackson, only faster?
September 30th, 2019 at 2:47 PM ^
...only whiter
September 30th, 2019 at 3:08 PM ^
Taller. And a better conversationalist.
September 30th, 2019 at 3:13 PM ^
Love hearing the positives about Brooks. He has an intriguing game w/ solid vision and passing ability. Good ball handler and we at least saw him shoot the ball well as a freshman, especially early. Him and DeJulius taking another step would be huge.
September 30th, 2019 at 4:53 PM ^
There were times in spots when he was the best player on the court. Great at rebounding. And the jerry curl Antoine Joubert look to boot...
September 30th, 2019 at 3:25 PM ^
OTOH, McCormick once said that Laval Lucas-Perry was going to be the best Michigan PG since Rumeal Robinson.
September 30th, 2019 at 3:26 PM ^
It all sounds pretty sweet. Do like Tim McCormick as well.
September 30th, 2019 at 4:17 PM ^
Michigan basketball pre-season hype is the only pre-season hype I believe in.
September 30th, 2019 at 4:37 PM ^
Ha, how about that? Teske's getting taller and I'm getting shorter.
September 30th, 2019 at 5:23 PM ^
And Leon’s getting larger?
