Tigers hosting White Sox

Submitted by Rodriguesqe on

Surprised there isn't a thread for this series yet. As a Detroit transplant living in Chicago, theres no professional team I'd rather beat than the Sox. The Hawk disparing, or better yet, silently pouting, is pure bliss.

The remaining games are

1:08 PM Saturday Sale vs Sanchez

1:08 PM Sunday Quintana vs Greene

We'll see how long this how start can last, but theres no question that these guys can flash some leather. After fielding glorified beer league softball teams  for years, its a lot of fun to watch. Winning also makes it fun.

Very weird. He couldn't have known that was reviewable (but how do you not know that?!) because that was a pretty obvious call. The only thing I can think of was that the 2nd base ump was very convincing in telling him that Castellanos was safe.

People were very skeptical/critical about DD's moves about starting pitching this past offseason, but I was very sure that we would be fine without Max.  I remember watching Greene make us look silly at the plate last year in his two starts against us with the Yankees.  The only one I was skeptical about was Simon.  However, it looks as if the rotation will be solid once again.  While these guys will definitely come back down to earth, each of our starters look very promising.  At this point, I'm getting worried about JV.  It was announced earlier that Lobstein would start on Tuesday in place of Verlander, so I'm just not sure how worried we should be about his injury.

Either way, I think this season looks very promising so far.

I've far from given up on JV, I think he can be an all-star again. But while the Tigers are on fire I'm not too sorry to skip his starts. I'd be worried if he came back while we're streaking that he'd get lit up and ruin our swag.

I may agree with you that listening to them is pretty funny, but for a whole 9 innings is brutal.  I have found that if you have MLB at Bat and a DVR you can get the Detroit radio feed to match up perfectly with the live broadcast on TV.  It may take an inning or two of pausing and fast forwarding the live broadcast, but once they are paired together its perfect...Then right before the last out of a Tigers win you can unmute the TV to hear Hawk complain about the "good-guys" losing.

... but I find them insufferable in the same way I find any "fan" who goes to games just to get drunk and is really less interested in the outcome of the game insufferable.  The true Cubs fans are fine. My comment is more directed towards the average Wrigley Field crowd.  Drunk and doesn't give a crap about the team.

Sorry also as a fellow Detroit transplant, and married to a Chicago Sports fan, for me it's:
1) the Blackhawks
2) "da" Bears
3) Sox/Cubs

But, I will say I love hearing hawk mumble "dang nabbit" right as the last out is recorded after the Tigers beat the Sox, brings me pure joy.

agree, there is a part of me that really enjoys tuning him in for a bit (but definitely not for an entire game) when the Sox are struggling.  Nobody cries like Hawk Harrelson cries.  It brings joy to my heart!

I was in RF stands and saw the throw beat Castellanos to the bag by at least two steps, this is normally an automatic out call and kind of hung my head, then I see ump signal safe, look to see if ball got dropped, nope, not laying on ground. I figured we would probably lose out on the inevitable challenge, Ventura comes out, walks around talking to umps, returns to dugout and umps stay on field, I'm thinking, what the heck, he's not challenging? Why? What's he got to lose? It is the ninth inning, how many more challenge opportunities does he think he'll get? Some reasons  I've read and some I thought

1. Umpire was so emphatic on  call and discussion

2. Infielders, especially first baseman who had the best view, said the tag was missed

3. Replay review guy told him not to challenge

Now my thoughts, guesses and/or hallucinations as to why

1. Maybe, just maybe he was afraid if he lost challenge he wouldn't be able to challenge a close play at the plate

2. He's not a very good manager/ dumbass. Often great players don't make good managers  and great managers are guys that were never good enough to make the show or had a cup of coffee there. locally we have  many examples of this, Alan Trammell, Sparky Anderson, Jim Leyland, Scotty Bowman, every head coach in the entire history of the Pistons! Yes, I know that nobody could have won with the team that Trammell has to manage.

Yesterday didn't go so well, but excited to see Greene pitch. So much is riding on him being the real deal. I think he'll be compared with Rick P all season at least. Porcello will make ~80 million more than Greene over the next 4 years. DD got killed for the Fister trade but flipping it into a guy entering his prime with 6 years of club control who may have front of the rotation stuff would make it an unbelievable trade in his favor.
