Tiger Woods wins Masters

Never been a fan of him and didn’t think he could do it, but cool to see someone overcome such tough life obstacles. Congratulations to him. What is everyone’s reaction to this?

I know a few people who work with him, and they've said he has changed a lot since his back issues over recent years. More humble, more appreciative. Good for him.

So one time I went to see David Blaine live.  He was performing a magic trick where he swallowed a married couple's ring.  He then proceeded to bend a coat hanger to fish it out of his stomach.  He first dipped the coat hanger in a glass of water.  At that moment in time I yelled out, "Just the tip."   Mr. Blaine than stopped and chuckled.  But here is where the twist is.  A few weeks after the show a friend of mine wanted to play cards against humanity.  I had a card that stated " In his newest and most difficult stunt, David Blaine must escape from ___________."  Out of all the cards my fiance could of had through out the whole game she had just drawn the card, "Just the tip."

Moral of the story, don't fuck with a magician.  They'll eventually mind fuck you.  True Story.

I am sure the pRon stars and hookers are happy!

Joke aside, It is absolutely an amazing win for him. After what he's gone through, not many thought he'd get back to the top.

Not a golf fan, but the Tiger storylines are unavoidable as a sports fan. I always wondered if he did roids. He had that phase where he bulked up, then his performance fell off a cliff, then he started having all the back and knee problems. Reminded me of power hitters in baseball who go from dominant to nobodies seemingly overnight. I don't dislike the guy though.

Suspicious on the roids front too, however I will say the swing he was using in the early part of his career was extremely violent relatively speaking. Swing coaches were saying for a long time that the amount of torque he was putting on his body was going to catch up on him. So I'm not sure if it was roids or just his swing style catching up with him.

Like I said ... I'm not a golf fan ... But taking roids seems like a much more likely reason for his muscle gain and everything, than randomly walking away from a billion dollar empire to join the Navy Seals. I'm just baselessly speculating. Glad the guy got to have that moment with his family.

All the stories about him adding 30+ lbs of muscle and benching 300+, etc etc. He was noticeably bigger than his college and early 20's years. I just thought it was strange that a golfer would bulk up like that. And now it's all gone again.

I don't know what Tiger did or didn't do, but given how this site constantly raves about "Camp Sanderson," I'm not sure I understand the shock that a guy with access to the best trainers money can buy gained muscle and strength. Still, it's not like Tiger is some hulking figure. At 6'1 and 185, he's basically the size of Mike Conley or Patrick Beverly. They too would appear massive next to the typical golfer.

Yeah, compare anyone from age 20 to mid-30s and you're probably looking at a 30lb gain minimum for most people.  For most of us, it's not exactly muscle but for anyone working out as part of their job, it easily could be muscle.  The body's metabolism changes. 30 lbs in 15 years isn't that crazy.

Not making a judgement on whether he took roids or not, but alot of roids have far more advantages than pure strength and size. I think endurance/stamina is the big one, given how many hours a day pga tour players practice. Could definitely provide a big advantage in recovering day to day.

He probably juiced because he went through an insane work-out stage.  I would guess it hurt his golf game though.  Golf does not involve like the "body building" muscles, the prominent muscles used in the golf swing are not used in the same manner in really any other activity.  He hit the ball 350 yards when he was 18 and weighed 135 pounds.  So I would say yes he probably used steroids, and it probably cost him some really good golf.

I'll come here and eat crow since just earlier this week I said he was toast.  But I also mentioned that I don't root against Tiger at all (I just don't root for him).  Either way, congrats to him!

With that, it remains to be seen if this is a flash in the pan or something that will be more consistent.  Time will tell.

Lastly, I still think he's a scumbag of a person.  One of the worst in sports.  Borderline sociopath.

Well.  You accurately brought up the crux of a theme in this thread:  how to separate the person on the course vs the person off the course.  As expected, you'll get a wide range of approaches to this.

Me?  Well, I don't put much mental discipline at all.  Tiger is shitty person to his core.  The reason I don't care if his wins or loses is simply because I don't put much mental discipline to care.

Did he bang your wife or something? Calling someone you don't know shitty to their core, is a bit much. If it's the infidelity thing, I guarantee you know people who have been unfaithful to a spouse or girlfriend, and I'm curious if you feel the same way about them? Anyway, good win, because I never thought he'd win another major.

WindyCityBlue

He did not bang my wife.  But thanks for asking.

Of course I know people who have been unfaithful to their spouse.  But I don't know anyone who has been unfaithful over 100 times to their spouse, including banging strippers and pornstars, and banging the daughter of your neighbor.  This is just the tip of the iceberg for Tiger. Tiger's transgressions run far deeper which is why is far worse than your standard unfaithful person.

And just because I don't know the person, doesn't mean I cannot somewhat accurately judge the person.  Listen, many on this blog (which probably includes you) has spent the a good chunk of the past few years making character judgements of Izzo, Dantonio and Meyer.  And that's OK.  But if a Spartan or Bucknut replied, "Calling someone you don't know shitty to their core, is a bit much," how would you respond?

Exactly. Did the same shit on Thursday.

Problem with Windy City Blue is he can be wrong - fully, categorically wrong - for over a fucking decade and we all have to read his bullshit with a tongue in cheek. There was no way to prove that the best the game will ever see will once again be the best we'll ever see. But those that watched and cared knew it was there. We knew it was coming.

Meanwhile, this dildo claimed shit like "I used to caddie" and "I was near scratch once" (which we all know means "I'm about a 20") in an idiot's attempt to legitimize his biased, moral dipshitedness. Not 5 years ago. He said that shit 3 days ago, in full denial of what was obviously coming, foreshadowed by the last 3 majors+.

Well, WindyCityBlue, enjoy this crow. Not just today. Be sure during every Tiger appearance from now on that you make this same post. Being wrong a billion times isnt offset by one "mea culpa". You were wrong forever. You will always be wrong. Fuck you and your ilk for pissing all over the sport.

Sincerely,

Those that were right, Tiger Woods,  and all of his slutty waitresses.

I honestly had to read your post a few times to understand what you exactly you were trying to say. It’s gibberish to put it lightly. And quite fitting for the Billy Madison gif (which I’ll refrain from including here)

But it sounds as though your wife/girlfriend was one of the hundreds of women Tiger banged. And it sounds like you enjoyed it. Don’t try to hide it cuck.

So you are saying you're wrong? And have been wrong for as long as you've carried and spewed your spiteful anti-Woods sentiment? Is that what you're saying. Sorry, it's hard to tell. You replied, but nothing in your incoherent rambling came close to resembling a rational thought.

I want you to post your admittance of wrong in every Tiger Woods related thread from now until the day he retires. (Okay, not really)

I was knocking back the ginger ales yesterday, so excuse my tone. You became the lightning rod for this, but were by no means the solo, or even main offender. I just remembered your post from Thursday about how Tiger was "toast". Eli was also there and in lock step with you if that makes you feel better.

It's just exhausting to read half-baked nonsense takes at every turn when it comes to Tiger Woods. You admitted yourself that you're a former caddy. You golf. You know the game. You're not dumb. And yet you looked at a guy with 14 major championships and 80 career victories who just came off of a 2018 season in which he won the Tour Championship, finished runner-up 7 times, finished 8th in the money, 2nd in the FedEx Cup points, had a back-9 lead at the Open and fired a final round 64 to finish 2nd to Koepka at the PGA... and concluded that that person "is toast".

It was… not a smart statement. All of the signs were there. The trajectory was obvious. If his back remained intact, Woods was winning a major soon. Maybe not yesterday, but only a fool would believe it would never happen. And you're not a fool. Instead, you're an internet moralist who ignored the obvious on-course foreshadowing staring you right in the face in favor of clipping a guy at the knees for past personal behavior in order to make yourself feel better. And not just the athlete, but the ricochet which hit every fan of Woods. Judging guys like me for not throwing a tantrum over marital infidelity that had nothing to do with me.

To each his own, I guess. But every time, on the internet or amongst a crowd, whenever a guy like me wanted to marvel at the unparalleled physical sporting feats that he accomplished and the possibilities that lie ahead, some jackass would appear out of the woodwork with his pop-up soapbox to tell you how Tiger is a terrible person and you're terrible for not banishing him for his transgressions.

It hasn't always been you specifically, of course. But it's been somebody. For a decade. And yesterday's reply above was double-barreled (single malt) retaliation for having to bite my tongue and take the "just wait" approach while guys like you brazenly shot your mouth off with your misguided and ultimately incorrect opinion.

And all over the internet yesterday, guys like you poked your head out for a brief moment with your little "I guess I was wrong, tee-hee!" post and just carried on like you weren't a holier-than-thou, judgmental asshole to any Tiger fan you came across. (seriously, go read your summary post from Thursday)  Fans that wanted nothing more than for the greatest golfer to ever live to find himself and his game and turn back the clock one more time and prove it was possible. Not just his golf. But for all of us. Guys who screwed up a marriage, or were subpar parents, or just simply made a bad choice to which they endured life-altering consequences. Guys who took dumb risks. Anybody who ever sought redemption. Or a comeback. Those people look at a guy like Woods and pull for him to bring it all the way back. To offer proof that redemption is possible in this lifetime. We rooted for something pure and good, and you chose to piss all over it.

While you sit there in your perfect world void of any errors (congrats by the way, what a run), others enjoyed the sports story. The guy who hit personal lows only to drag his weary ass off the mat and start swinging back. That resonates. It's awesome. It's been an incredible ride the past decade waiting and believing that this could and would happen for Tiger Woods. Guys like you laughed all the way. Judged him. Judged me. Judged anybody who made a mistake.

Yesterday, you were wrong. And I enjoyed letting you know. Sorry for the way it came out. That was a mistake - not that a guy like you would understand.
