Thursday Morning Drinking Thread
As we near what I hope is a long weekend for most readers, it's time to pause and consider the world of beverages that get us moving in the morning. For many, it is a typical cup of drip coffee. Others might look to a vodka and OJ to usher them into a patriotic weekend.
My new obsession is nitro coffee. I wouldn't say I am a coffee snob, but a couple local shops have taken to making iced coffee infused with cream and nitrogen (also some CO2). My god it tastes like caffeine Guinness. But at $5 a pop it is about as expensive as a beer, so remains a rare treat.
What's in your cup?
so there is about 80% less oil and no brakish taste. it tastes like coffee smells, without all the cream, sugar, foo-foo additives.
you heat up your water in the micro, pour in your cold-brewed coffee, and you are good to go.
French Market Coffee (medium roast mixed with chicory). Black as night. I'm not a fan of the Cafe du Monde (tastes burnt), but this is ambrosia.
Cold brewing is absolutely the way to go. We do a pound at a time, and it lasts a week. Plus we have the best smelling compost in the neighborhood (and those things count).
E.M. are you trying to say that your compost smells like roses? Outkast may disagree and say it smells like poopoo.
and have found that you can get away with using much less than a pound of coffee, like 1/2 or even 1/3 of a pound, and that you can use cheap-o coffee and it turns out very well. once in a while we use some fancy stuff, for instance mgowife bought a little starrbucks bag to use last week. we also let ours sit for a full 24 hrs (muy strong) and i suspect that makes up for using less of the beans.
compost is good. or feed it to the pigs - they'll eat anything.
Feed the hogs concentrated caffeine? Sure - what could possibly go wrong?
(Agreed on the 24 hours. We use a "toddy" to get it done, and the cold-brewed concentrate is very strong. The concentrate is also great for cooking, or for homebrewing as an adjunct, like for a coffee stout.)
and that is mixed with a whole lot of other slop. but yeah, a pig can be a fearsome critter, bears without claws, just as big and mean, at least as smart.
...so water for now while I get some studying done for my Series 6 exam. Happy Birthday to me.
Uh oh. It is "It's My Birthday" Guy.

EDIT: response to post from ILoveMichigan which was apparently deleted on the web version.... which is good, bc just about everything from that poster annoys me
Before I read the edit, I was like "damn, bro - you don't tolerate bitchin' and moanin".
Now your reply makes sense, but is not fun at all. +1 for the ephemeral chuckle.
Happy day to you!

Here in DC, they have it at Dolcezza (which is primarily a gelatto place) and Slipstream. I haven't seen it at any of the big chains, but give it about 6 months.
There's gotta be something in A2, no?! Come on A2, get your ish together.

How about a Thursday "getting the kids up and going to work" thread.
I tried it, but it left a bitter aftertaste.
This is the back end of my day so I am watching some news, reading some blog. I am done for the week so I got that going for me too, which is nice.
Bulletproof coffee. Only way to do it

Sumatra if they have it. Curious about the cold brew thing though. Sounds like it is something I need to try.
Starbucks now offers cold brew on their menu - very good and quite strong

Coffee is gross and I do not understand how people like it.
I remember when I had my first beer and thought the same thing. I was like 12. Then I grew up.

Just messing with you.

LOL
Well, it is not a matter of growing up. It is a matter of taste...and coffee has horrible taste.
Apparently so do you...

Coffee at the airport. Day trip to Miami after back to back weather delayed trips and midnight arrivals. Looking forward to sleeping in and taking a morning nap tomorrow.
