There Are...

There are...2 days until Game Day.  2, as in 'doubles', or as in 'twins'.  2.  And we have a fine pair of Wolverines to discuss today in recognition of this ever-diminishing number.  Age before beauty, so let's talk about Brad Hawkins, a 4* recruit from New Jersey who is now a grad student in his last year wearing the maize and blue.  He is an alternate captain on our team and has been calling the shots in the defensive backfield.  His leadership and timely plays have been key, none more timely then we he introduced himself to a certain #2 for Nebraska with about 2 minutes left in the game this year, and came away with the football and what turned out to be the win.  It was really a turning point for when we knew this team was different and would not be folding under adverse circumstances.

We have another 2 on offense.  A jitterbug speedster with vision who personifies what many of us would shout, 'weight room!'.  An inspiration for anyone of smaller stature, fearless on the field and very difficult for opposing teams to see, much less tackle.  Blake Corum is a sophomore from Maryland who is a third-team All B10 selection who has lit up the stat sheets this year.  His long run vs. ohio, bum ankle and all, gave us all an enduring hope that 'The Game' would be different this year, and indeed it was.   That said, he had a run play in the B10 Championship game that started out innocently enough:

2021 Michigan Football -- Playbook -- Hand-Off -- JJ ...

But somehow then turned into this, and your heart started beating quicker

2021 Michigan Football -- Playbook -- Hand-Off -- JJ ...

And ended like this, and you were jumping up and down in joy.

No. 2 Michigan takes Big Ten in rout, makes playoff pitch

And just like that you knew we were going to win that game, plain and simple.   Don't be surprised when in 2 days our number 2 on offense doubles down on plays like this and takes a couple of balls 'to the house'.

I was reminded also of another 2 in our lore, a GOAT in his own right, who has been part of the team's broadcasts and even an honorable team captain this year.  Candidly, its hard to imagine another '2' who might ever eclipse this 2, and it is no surprise that this '2' won a National Championship for and with our team.  You all know this number 2 also, and man, what '2' he was:

1998 Rose Bowl interception in end zone by Heisman Trophy ...

And you can't have one without the other, right?

Michigan's Charles Woodson: Incredible interception vs MSU ...

Down to two (2) days.  That's it. Kick-off is in 60 hours as I finish this up.  2 days.  Count 'em, 1...2...Game day.

Go Blue, Beat Georgia!

I don’t think there’s been a more significant single play this season than Hawkin’s strip at Nebraska. Obviously there’s going to be other contenders for a 1-loss team, such as All’s TD at Penn State, but I’d give Hawkin’s forced fumble the nod. It was one of the first examples that proved this team and season was going to be different. Let’s keep it rolling.

My son has worn his Xmas, Corum jersey so much it’s gonna run a 4.3 when and if he ever takes it off. Hopefully it’s the lucky charm we all need come friday.

Happy Merry post Christmas! Happy Merry New Year's Eve Eve Eve! I was walking in to work, the snow was falling, I had my Michigan Jacket on that I wore as a student - I graduated in '99, so it's old, but in remarkably good shape - and I felt happy. This football season, it has been a wonderful journey we've all shared, from pre Western Michigan to now. Obviously, going to the CFP is cool, but this feels pretty dang special.

Another #2 is the ranking of Michigan Football in the CFPs.

Seriously, how many of you would have laughed out loud if I had predicted this before the season started? (I didn’t.)

Go Blue!

And Thanks XM. Bring it home tomorrow and NYE!

Who does number 2 … work for…

XM, great write up as usual. It’s truly been a blessed season, and our #2s have contributed significantly. We have the need…the need for speed. I’m this case, Macdonald already said it…it’s team speed and playing as 11, as one.

BTW, our offensive #2 was PFF's #1 RB until his ankle injury.  H2 was 'only' top 10.  Does anyone think that Corum is the #2 RB in Michigan's backfield to the #1?  Or is it #1A and #1B?

IMHO, I think Georgia believes they're getting H2 and his backups.

As good as H2 is, Corum is no backup...
