Let's not pretend that Michigan wouldn't get special treatment like other blue blood programs. Unless you're caught covering up the rape of dozens of little boys by one of your coaches, the NCAA would never do something to truly damage one of their cash cows. The only reason anything actually happened to us after Stretch gate is because we "fully cooperated."

I'm really not sure what to make of all this... Not the Butch Jones comments, I get that but the actual banning. I had an extended conversation with an SEC head coach and assistant off the record immediately following the banning. He was disappointed and laid out every reason why it not only helped kids but he felt helped smaller schools that weren't competing for similar level players anyway. He made it very clear that this banning hurt his school and spoke of another SEC coach who felt the same.

Interesting...did this coach make his feelings known to the commish? I don't doubt that some programs w/in the conference were not in agreement but it seemed to become more of a vendetta by the top dogs w/in the conference and Sankey went about his way protecting those programs. Whilst Delaney simply protected OSU.

I didn't actually ask him that. The feeling I got was he and this other coach understood that they were going to change how other felt.

I was surprised how much it felt like he understood what this new rule would mean for kids. Now he could have been spinning me but I don't think he was as we were both two drinks in and I'm not a reporter.

The other coach I spoke of is widely known as one of the top recruiter in all of college football, he hates the rule been said "I've been around long enough to know where the wind blows and so does Jim."

There's some strange unwritten rule that you have to be an asshole if you coach Tennessee football.  Phil Fulmer, Lane Kiffin, Butch Jones.

It's like coming into contact with THAT amount of orange just makes you a worthless sack of crap.

“First of all, we were prepared. If it did go through, we had locations set up to be able to do that,” Jones said following the Vols’ scrimmage Saturday at Neyland Stadium. “But I still think, at the end of the day, you need to get players to campus.

You know, I can totally see Butch Jones saying something to the effect of, "We think these camps are a terrible idea, and just to show you how terrible they are, we're going to hold a few ourselves so you can see that nothing good happens. You'll see!"

They weren't going to come north in any meaningful way.  But, you could bet serious money ALL of them were going to do camps in Fla, Ga, and Tx.  Probably in Alabama too.  It was going to be an arms race with mutually assured destruction.  LSU, Georgia, and Auburn all would have most likely gone to St Nick's backyard.

It would have been a beautiful thing to see.

The SEC hasn't done anything that's for student athletes unless you count waterfalls. The "if we have to do it, it's gonna be YUUUUGE and we'll do it better than anyone" bluff was absurd on face value.

The grimiest part - they're just protecting their access to underprivileged kids. The SEC isn't talent rich because kids love football and it's warm, it's talent rich because there are so few opportunities for most of the population and football is a way to get out.

I feel really bad for the kids this rule is going to affect. The Sound Mind Sound Body camp is simply amazing and now because of this rule coaches can't attend it.

Shame on the SEC and the NCAA. Just a gutless stupid rule because a few millionaire coaches don't want to work harder or have their recruiting territory infringed on.

Let's change the story a bit:

The NCAA denied allowing schools to send unlimited text messages. Jim Harbaugh said that he didn't think unlimited text messages would be a good idea, but he was prepared to increase the number of text messages he sends in order to keep up with other coaching staffs.

I'm sure a bunch of you would be calling out Jim Harbaugh for "preparing" to send more text messages...right?
