Team 40 rebounds against NC State in mercy-rule style

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

Team 40 redeemed themselves this afternoon against NC State 11-0.  Faith Canfield hit a grand slam to end the game in the 5th.

The offense garndered 13 hits (Tera 3, Abby 2, Faith 2 and Monty 2).  Faith finished with 5 RBIs and Tera had 2 RBIs.

Tera was the complete game winning pitcher.  She scattered 4 hits with 4 Ks and 4 BBs.

Overall a much better pitching performance by Tera but it does not hurt to get the bats making good contact.

"why is there a mercy rule if one team has 40 more rebounds than the other?"

I'm still stuck in winter basketball mode. It's weird thinking softball is being played already...although today's weather is helping.

MGoSoftball: who do you see being the primary pitcher at the end of the season?

Wow, I didn't realize that she was the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year x2. Thanks.

From the snippets I've caught here and there, it seemed like Betsa has struggled a bit and Blanco has been better so far. Also, I thought there was a girl coming in from Monroe St. Mary's that had set MHSAA strikeout records or something. It turns out Meghan Beaubien is only a senior at SMCC.

Nah, Betsa has been the better pitcher. Rough one today but prior to this she threw 190 pitches in 10 complete innings and held Florida to 2 runs, and tossed a shutout opening day. She also shut down NC State yesterday. And even with the two long balls today (which may have been the result of a blister on her throwing hand), she struck out 11 and would have got the W if the offense hadn't left 15 on base and went 2/14 with RISP.

I love these regular softball updates and I hope they continue. This is a great help to following the team, especially early in the season.

I would recommend those who post these updates to be more specific than just writing "Team 40." I get it, having read previous threads, and it still doesn't click when I see it in the headline. The posts should be labeled "Softball" or at least "SB." "SB Team 40" would be fine.

Also, some of us may be a bit rusty in the memory department and it might not automatically occur to everyone that "Tera" is Tera Blanco. I'm not saying that I had this problem but I also neither confirm nor deny that I might have a tab open right now to verify that she is the pitcher in question before I posted this response, either.

Don't want these two issues to take away from the SB posts, which are wonderful and I hope will continue. Just some constructive criticism--label and write them as if some readers might not have caught the updates of recent games.
