A talk with Stephen Hopkins

Submitted by mscharbo15 on
Highlights: - He's graduating in December and will be enrolling early. - His HS has OSU colors and he "wears them with shame." - He's excited about the possibly of a home-and-home with Oklahoma State, since the 2010 game would be his first as a Wolverine and the 2011 contest would be the closest thing to a homecoming for him (he's from Texas). - Although being the one power back in the 2010 class, he claims to be getting faster and quicker (can't hurt). - Had he waited another month to commit, he likely would have received offers from Oklahoma (!!!), Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Sparty and Arkansas. - He's heard from somebody in the know that if he has a good senior season he'll vault up to a 4-star. Not too much inside information but it's info regardless.

about the Jupiter impact situation, because I definitely read that topic as "Stephen Hawkings" and thought well my god that should be OT. Also I've been drinking. But on topic: I hope this guy has it. Thanks for the update.

In the know but I think he could definitely get a 4th star. Plays against big time competition in Texas. I hope he gets it but I don't really care how many stars he has. I think he will have a great senior season and will be a really great weapon for us down the road. Thanks for the input. How did u speak with him?

Thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to this guy suit up from us and really like that RR is not just recruiting the smaller and quicker backs. I guess RR would be stupid to not recruit power backs, but I just thought I'd give him some "props" because of all the negative press he gets. I'm sure hes greatful of me too...

in his videos, he looks like he will be a stud. The only thing I didn't like was his OSU style uniforms but hearing he wears it with shame is kinda funny. I look forward to seeing hi8m in the UM colors in the future. Thanks for the info. I too would like to know how you came to talk with him? Do you know him personally?

I have markedly less football talent than Mr. Hopkins. TomVH mentioned it as an aside when we were freaking out about all the three stars. He said that Stephen, who I am not (I know it was a joke) was perplexed, bamboozled, and flabbergasted why we set so much in store by a few stars.

Frankly, i think an understated aspect of his commitment is that its going to help us with the Texas recruits. The state is a gold mine -- even if it is pillaged by Texas, OU, OK State, and LSU. Between Mallett, McGuffie, and murmurs about Stonum, I'd love to see a Texas kid come up here and whoop some ass. Certainly wont hurt us when Jay Hopson and Fred Jackson are down their scouting future M talent.

Those offers would have gotten him another star IMHE. Not that he wold have instantly become a better player because of some guy's opinion. Still, it's an accomplishment for the kid, hope he gets it (but I'm never gonna freak out OMGZ DEVIN GARDNER 4 STAR??? RIVALS SUXXXXXXX)
