Tackling

Submitted by ituralde on

Can we learn to wrap up? Please? I can see we are trying to be aggressive and force turnovers, but there was a lot of really sloppy tackling today.

I like the big plays but we gave up a lot bigger of ones than we needed to.

I agree, our tackling left a lot to be desired, a couple of those Armando Alan runs should have been pulled down from behind in the backfield. But, despite these premonitions I'm going to enjoy the win.

You suffer with the team for years...you donate, you go to functions, you get tickets, you tailgate, you listen to completely uninfomed a-holes talk about RichRod using stupid made up names, talking junk about his electron recruits, you deal with the god damned 3 Star Mafia, guys bitching about our holder Drew Dileo, about Carvin Johnson (starter), about the secondary, about, well...everything. So everything is wrong, everything is fucked up, RichRod and Michigan are dead, going to go 5 and 7 at best and years of rebuilding and Jim freaking Harbaugh is in the conversation but you know, you freaking know that RichRod has a plan and some ability to achieve it with the right recruits...

Then it happens and they blow up a UConn team that the board is all worried about...Denard goes crazy for a million yards, the d doesn't give up 40 points (as so many predict) and they win...but that's not enough because of big bad Brian Kelly (purveyor of RichRod's spread in some variance and ooh scary ND...but then Denard goes off for a zillion yards again (though many are non - plussed because apparently the running backs didn't run enough, or for enough yards or whatever...End of the day they won, the defense holds ND to 24 points of which 7 should have been called back.

Every long term, long suffering, loyal, those who stayed fan here "deserves it"...deserves to enjoy the fucking moment, to enjoy reviewing the DVR and to go to bed happy in Michigan victory. The defense played far better than expectations and some serious lumber got laid at various points. They got turnovers (who would have thought?). But to get back to my point, every long suffering Michigan fan deserves it...

Enjoy the win my friends, let the more skittish among us go on ad infinitum about their concerns. Pass me a beer, I'll move onto that Monday.

greg banks was having all kinds of trouble staying in front of allen. hes just not agile enough to handle backs in open space

as for the rest of the team, i dont actually think that we are a worse than average tackling team. i think that because our dbs have to focus so heavily on the pass because of their inexperience, it forces our lb's and dlineman to make a lot more tackles in open space than on most defenses. which in turn makes them look bad.

Take some time and enjoy this victory, it was huge!! The coaches know the tackling can improve, and it will improve as the season progresses and this team gets more experience under its belt.

We didn't tackle that well, but I think the crappy footing didn't do us any favors.  A lot of guys were slipping around and it affected the defenses more than the offenses (which had the advantage of knowing where the ball was going),.
