Swenson decommit: more info ...
OK, don't shoot the messenger ... just 1-side of the story and just reporting ... doesn't look great tho
“Coach Drevno just said they’re trying to put the best recruiting class they can together,” Molinari said. “They’ve gained a ton of interest from a lot of recruits they never thought they’d have interest from. It wasn’t just a coach Drevno thing. They sat down and thought there wasn’t going to be one for Erik at this point — not a full scholarship, a preferred walk-on.”

Rivals put out an ITF today that basically completely debunked any "out of the blue" talk from Swenson's end. I agree the timing is certainly up for criticism, but any claims of being "blindsided" are not accurate. Because Michigan cannot comment, the narrative will be what Erik Swenson's family wants it to be.
Sounds like Sam put out something similar.

Michigan's Side of Things is thus:
1) Asked to camp over the summer but refused.
2) Told in fall that offer was contingent on performance.
3) Reviewed senior film (http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1601282/highlights/303048382/v2) and found it underwhelming.
4) Told in December to take other official visits but refused.
My take is that Erik really wanted to Go Blue and refused to heed the warnings or demonstrate to the coaches that he wanted to compete in a Harbaugh-like environment. He would have been an ideal fit for Hoke, i.e. kids that peak early and earn early accolades only to be a bust in college.

Possibly changes my assessment.
Do you have a source on that?
EDIT: never mind, just saw the Webb thread.

You mean your rush to judgment from hearing only one side of the story? Ok........

This situation reminds me of recent news stories of police shootings where either the police side or the victim side comes out first without a counterbalancing "other side". Strong opinions are formed despite having only 50% of the information. Then, eventually the other side's info comes out and the story often looks different.
It would be great to put this story to bed for a month and revisit it in a month when a truer picture is known, but we all know that's not how news works. Still, I'm holding off with my opinion for now. And speaking in strong hypotheticals is tedious and imprecise ("If XYZ then ABC, but if DEF then LMNOP unless PDQ or BFD.")

Worth reading and does make sense if it went down like this ....
Copy and Paste from Maize n Brew comments section.
"When Jim Harbaugh took over at Michigan, Swenson’s commitment was still in place. Then, over the course of the next several months, Swenson was asked to come to Ann Arbor and compete in camps, and also to work out in front of coaches, and Swenson refused. Harbaugh and company saw this as a red flag and decided to do some digging. They learned that Swenson had not developed like many thought he would and had become complacent with his work ethic and desire to compete. Some time in the fall, the coaches informed Swenson that they’d like him to look elsewhere and that he no longer held a committable offer from U-M. A source very close to the situation said that Swenson refused to go public with the information, convinced that he’d still end up in Ann Arbor."
