Surprise! NCAA had beef w/Pryor's recruitment

How much smoke does there have to be before the NCAA can use deductive reasoning to conclude there is a goddamn blazing inferno in that town?

I hate Columbus - burn the town. I still remember getting full beers thrown at me during the tailgates. I went in with a case and drank about double that with the free beers that were thrown my way. Does anyone remember Adam Sandler the night before 1997 game at Hill? What a blast! That was my favorite weekend in college. David Boston got put in his place the day after! Go Blue!

The real question is whether Sarniak actually complied with the NCAA's ruling and stopped providing Pryor with money and benefits when told to do so three years ago. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest maybe not?

that Sarniak was "mistakenly" provided free lodging. How does that happen? I've worked at a hotel and a customer was never mistakenly not charged, if anything they were mistakenly overcharged. The only people that never paid were those who left before paying, and that was pretty rare.

as to how the NCAA could conclude that the benefits that Pryor got from Sarniak, someone who did not qualify as having a prior relationship with Pryor, did not deserve the same punishment they handed out to Jamaal Crawford at Michigan.

OSU might get off lightly this Aug but the dark cloud of corruption will hang over their program for years to come.  They WILL eventually get theirs.  And we'll enjoy plucking top-tier OH talent from them while eating popcorn watching the Muppets.

You could have written the same thing 8 or 9 years ago when all the Clarett nonsense was going down.  Hasn't slowed them down since.  I'm not holding my breath waiting for the NCAA to do anything that makes sense.

What does this add to any current case versus OSU?  Nothing, as far as I can see.  I don't like Sarniak, or Pryor, any more than you fellows do.  But I don't see what this adds to the OSU story.  If anybody bothers to read the FOIA'ed documents and wishes to add to the picture, be my guest.  I'll rest easy knowing that the Associated Press is on the case.

that they had no clue what was going on?  The vast majority of people would have no trouble answering this question correctly:  What smells like a turd, looks like a turd, and feels like a turd?  Not the NCAA.  They keep looking for reasons to let TSIO off the hook despite the overwhelming evidence of lack of institutional control and failure to create an atmosphere of compliance.  Sorry, ignorance is no excuse for breaking the rules - especially for a university with a huge athletic budget.

Seriously - these guys know how to keep things under wraps. I believe I read that Pryor's mother actually bought a car from the same dealership supplying the team with cars. Looks fishy, yes - but all the dealer need do is charge her fair invoice for the vehicle. Now - where she got the money from may be a different story, but the invoice would show list price. I may be wrong, but I do not think the NCAA can take a peek at her bank account.

Honestly how dirty is college football?  I mean I'm sure there are some streching of the rules of the minor sort going on just about everywhere, but this is silly.

It's as if the NCAA just said "dont provide money, cell phones, etc." anymore or else we'll be forced to send a you another strongly worded letter!

The NCAA has to start cracking down on this stuff or NCAA football will be tainted forever.

Its all crap and means nothing. It is very obvious that the NCAA isnt going to do anything to them turds down south so what is the point? Im tired of hearing about it because nothing is going to happen.

You think O-lie-o going to release any damning emails to anyone?

Let the school down south cheat and remain the school down south.

We are Michigan! Lets remind the world of who we are.

"Less than three years later, mentor Ted Sarniak was a central figure in coach Jim Tressel's downfall and Pryor's departure from Ohio State."

"Sarniak on Friday declined to comment. It has not been alleged that Sarniak was involved in any wrongdoing related to the scandal that forced Tressel out."

There are four sentences between those two in the linked article.  Am I missing something?

Eh. Doesn't seem like much. Not that I don't think the Buckeyes are dirtier than Jenna Jameson, but if the NCAA wasn't going to do something about this when it occurred, they're not going to do anything about it now.

All "...expenses incurred on this recruiting trip by the coaches, including the cost of meals, should have been paid for by the institution," Huchthausen's letter said.

It was unclear Friday what the outcome of this allegation was, although it appears to have been reported in a summary of secondary violations Ohio State provided to the NCAA earlier this month.

So OSU just reported a secondary violation that occurred almost 4 years ago?  How in the hell is this not LOIC???

They provided the NCAA with a summary of the secondary violations they've been found to have committed. This was in that summary and thus can be assumed to have been determined to be a secondary violation, which would answer the question implied in the first part of the sentence.

If they had just now made their initial report, how could the NCAA have investigated it three years ago?
