Refs seemed to have learned their lesson from the past two Sparty games if the first few min are any indication. A few calls against MSU already.

Assuming Michigan has won the Big Ten and a 1 seed by the time of our last game, there is no reason to play our top 8 players at MSU.  The risk of potential Injuries vs. the benefit of playing just to win a meaningless game weighs toward resting all  key players. We are track to win the National Championship and the biggest obstacles are Covid and injuries.

Given last week, MSU probably would be in even if they lose to Maryland and us twice as long as they beat Indiana on Tuesday AND win at least one BTT.

Beating both Illinois & OSU was truly huge for them. If they dropped one of those they'd be in a lot worse shape.

Going 0-4 the last week would leave MSU outside the bubble barring a deep BTT run.

According to this website, MSU is currently in as a 12th seed with a 50% chance of making the tournament.  Keep in mind that a big conference team has no real chance of making the tourney as lower than a 12th seed, because the bottom 4 seeds are typically filled with tiny school conference champions.

That means, MSU is barely in.  If Maryland wins today and UofM beats them back to back, that would be three straight losses putting MSU on the outside looking in heading into the BigTen Tourney.  MSU is too inconsistent to likely make a deep run in the BigTen tourney.

Wouldn't you love to see Coach Howard flex on Izzo and Izzo blow a gasket of how unfair it was that he got left out?

Watching MSU they just try to get the right switches then play off that. If we can keep Dickinson in the paint on defense they'll have a really tough time scoring.

It’s real simple.  Stop Aaron Henry and msu sucks.  Franz should have no problem with that assignment.  Back off and let him shoot outside and stop the drive.

Why is the background noise so much louder that the announcers? I have no idea what they're saying but I can hear exactly what the coaches are yelling from the sidelines.

MSU and Duke are gonna be those teams that get in by their name alone and then both of them will get put out early, round 1 or 2. They are struggling against a mediocre Maryland team.

MSU dominating the boards on the offensive end. It's the only reason this game is as close as it is right now. Otherwise they seem to be playing down to their opponent when they were so high after their wins against Illinois and OSU.

What I find funny is the foul count with 15 and change to go was MSU 6 Maryland 0. Announcers kept talking about how Maryland would be able to use the fouls to their advantage. 11 minutes later the count is 7 to 7 lol.

Izzo seems angry.  Losing 3 of 4 (assume they beat Indiana) puts them at 8-12 in the conference and 14-12 before the BTT.   If they go even 2-1 in the tournament, that's 16-13.   I have a hard time believing that resume makes the tournament.

I think they're in at 16-13. Big Ten is as elite as it comes, and there were fewer out of conference games than usual due to COVID, so that record would be stronger in a normal year.

Only way(s) MSU misses the tournament in my opinion:

  • Finishes 0-4 in the regular season, 1-1 or worse in the BTT (loses on Friday, or before).
  • Finishes 1-3 in the regular season, 0-1 in the BTT (loses first round).

If MSU finishes 2-2 (which would include a win over us), I think they're in regardless of the BTT.

On the other hand, if they make it to the BTT Semis (which would be 2 wins, one of which would be over a Top 4 seed), I think they make it regardless of the regular season finish.

Those two wins last week dramatically helped them.

MSU players make awful decisions on shot taking.  So many times they pass up open shots and end up dribbling right into traffic, lol.

Can't wait to abuse them on the court.
