It's all right Michigan is cleaning up with all those underrated guys from the Northeast
December 18th, 2019 at 12:45 PM ^
That's certainly worked well the last 8 years.....
The rich just get richer

Whoosh!
December 18th, 2019 at 12:56 PM ^
We did have a great QB recruit in this class. Unfortunately he (and we) had bad luck with his health. Fortunately we have other QB recruits in other classes and we should be ok here.
December 18th, 2019 at 1:39 PM ^
It depends how things shake out with McCaffrey & Milton. If whomever loses the starting job next year decides to transfer our depth could be dicey for a few years. We may have to shop the transfer portal for a qualified backup unless McNamara develops quicker than currently expected.
December 18th, 2019 at 3:10 PM ^
I detect the sarcasm, but our hit rate on guys out of New England recently has actually been pretty terrific
December 18th, 2019 at 12:44 PM ^
I don’t think anyone realistically expected him in this class.
December 18th, 2019 at 1:19 PM ^
no, but he could have chosen Clemson or..........North Dakota State...........idk.........literally anywhere else on the planet to throw the oblong leather spheroid as he does.
December 18th, 2019 at 3:37 PM ^
LOL. Is it against regulations to pay a kid to not go to your rival? ;-)
'We can't pay you to come here. But wouldn't you like $100K to go to Clemson? We'll have our B school guys invest it for you so in 5 years you'll make a tidy sum too....'
December 18th, 2019 at 3:59 PM ^
The suckeyes paid him so he will have to sit out against rutger and maryland...
December 18th, 2019 at 1:41 PM ^
Agreed, but he was still a high priority target UM was a finalist for, so the news remains relevant. I'm sure some folks who aren't watching live updates are curious and just making it readily available.
December 18th, 2019 at 12:46 PM ^
Always the pallbearer, never the corpse.

Seemed like a forgone conclusion for about a month now...

Seemed like a forgone conclusion for about a month now...
A strong lean sure, but a foregone conclusion, no. He visited very recently and was a high priority target and UM was a finalist for him. That makes it relevant news. I'm sure some folks who aren't watching live updates are curious and I'm just making it readily available.
December 18th, 2019 at 1:51 PM ^
Well not a full month. But there was zero chatter of him coming to Michigan after his OV here. He had an in home with OSU, and an OV at OSU since, and had 100% of the crystal balls pointing towards OSU by the end of it.
I'm not going to lie. I watched his announcement just in case. But OSU was the only flat bill on the table. We had hope we could get into this late, but it was evident we didn't actually have a shot since he left Ann Arbor.
December 18th, 2019 at 2:17 PM ^

This thread was for everyone who was curious just like you, but maybe didn't have time to watch his announcement.
December 18th, 2019 at 2:36 PM ^
I wasn't knocking the thread. Just commented on the state of his recruitment. I didn't feel like we had a shot, and I haven't for a while.
December 18th, 2019 at 12:47 PM ^
Joke's on them. Our 3* recruits will surely lead us to victory next year.
December 18th, 2019 at 12:51 PM ^
pfft, 7th best ranked recruit in their class.
although, he'd be #1 in ours.
where was the georgia $$$ for this one? still paying off that truck for otis reese?
December 18th, 2019 at 1:09 PM ^
And there lies the big problem
December 18th, 2019 at 3:45 PM ^
UGa peeps were hoping they were still in this one ... they thought it was an uphill OSU-UGa battle much like we thought it was an uphill OSU-UM battle (though I think their hopes were marginally higher than ours).
December 18th, 2019 at 12:48 PM ^
Water is wet
December 18th, 2019 at 12:48 PM ^
That’s 2 QBs in that class. One will transfer in 2 years
December 18th, 2019 at 1:06 PM ^
But will they transfer to Michigan?
Even if OSU doesn't hold on to them for the full four or five years those kids won't end up at Michigan.
December 18th, 2019 at 1:10 PM ^
I dont think that was his point, nor what he was insinuating.
December 18th, 2019 at 1:50 PM ^
I’m just saying the game has changed. Keep up the relationship with kids even if they are at other schools. The way the transfer portal works makes it at least a possibility that they will make a move, and when they do Harbs would be in a good place.
December 20th, 2019 at 8:49 AM ^
Yeah it doesn't work that way and you can bet your ass schools would flip out if they knew other schools were talking to on roster players trying to "keep up the relationship".
December 20th, 2019 at 8:49 AM ^
Yeah it doesn't work that way and you can bet your ass schools would flip out if they knew other schools were talking to on roster players trying to "keep up the relationship". It's an NCAA violation to do what you are suggesting
December 20th, 2019 at 8:51 AM ^
triple post
December 18th, 2019 at 1:23 PM ^
That’s actually a pretty good idea. You only play one QB, so the chances of getting an elite QB just doubled and the guy who doesn’t emerge will leave and free up a scholarship. Recruiting two top level QB’s almost guarantees one of them will develop into an above average player. If every school could do it, they probably would.
December 18th, 2019 at 12:49 PM ^
Guys, honestly, he isn't that good.
What, it didn't work? You guys don't feel better now?
December 18th, 2019 at 12:51 PM ^
Unless he signed with UM, then he would be THE NEXT HEISMAN LEVEL QB!!!!
December 18th, 2019 at 12:49 PM ^
It's ok. We just have to get the pass rush to make him and any other QB regret wanting to wear the ugliest shade of red ever.
December 18th, 2019 at 1:05 PM ^
I really hate Cinnamon and Silver.
December 18th, 2019 at 12:52 PM ^
Maryland gets 5* WR's. OSU gets 4* QB's. Michigan gets under the radar croots, because Harbaugh is the master developer.
December 18th, 2019 at 1:00 PM ^
All right smart guy, let's, switch classes with Maryland. Would you be happy then?
December 18th, 2019 at 1:06 PM ^
You've seen our class, right? This class gets Michigan no closer to beating OSU. Not one single inch.
But you keep using all those excuses.
December 18th, 2019 at 1:12 PM ^
Don't get snippy with him just because you choose a poor way to argue your point.
December 18th, 2019 at 1:14 PM ^
You should totally get on twitter and rip these kids apart, telling them how they are not good enough for you to root for.
December 18th, 2019 at 1:19 PM ^
There's nothing wrong for being thankful for everyone coming to wear the maize and blue while also realistically recognizing that they are not the same tear as everyone going to wear the scarlet and gray.
December 18th, 2019 at 1:36 PM ^
This response is our PROBLEM!!!! We use to be a national power AND we use to beat THEEEEE ohio about 50% of the time.
Now swaths of our fan base are ok with being 2nd or 3rd in our division every year and hoping that once in a blue moon we will beat THEEEEE ohio. We have become Minnesota / Illinois / Maryland.
December 18th, 2019 at 1:54 PM ^
Oh yeah, fans correctly pointing out at the have a lot of talented recruits in our class are the cause of Ohio State having even more talented kids in theirs. Makes perfect sense.

Ugh, no.
Our problem is Tressel, Meyer, and the OSU administration were and are fine with running a full on football factory. While all big time recruits get special benefits at big time programs (even UM over the years), certain schools have decided to take the "student" completely out of the student-athlete model of big revenue sports like college football and college basketball, with crazy payments of $300k + to top recruits, houses, cars and more to the families. Some kids never see the campus of the school they play for ala Joe Burrow and Justin Fields, as tutors take their classes for them online, and they study football all day at the facilities.
We chose not to be a full on football factory, for better or worse. If you really believe OSU have won 90% of the games against us over the past 2 decades solely because of "better scheme" or "luck" or "coaching" or "caring more" you need a class in statistics. Their staff and more importantly players spend more resources, time, and focus on football than ours. $ brings the more talented kids in the door along with a culture of NFL prep school, and the SEC model of skool helps better develop them.
The BCS and now the playoff, to an even greater extent, has widened the gap between the haves and have nots and being a big national brand like Michigan, Notre Dame or Texas won't help unless you choose to compete on a level playing field. The fact that our 9-3 seasons under Harbaugh keep the seats full and fanbase just content enough, along with being able to say "we do things the right way", is enough to ensure that we won't go SEC-OSU-Clemson model.
Outlets like ESPN or Fox would never discuss this elephant in the room as it goes against the narrative of SEC, Saban, Meyer greatness, and feeds the Harbaugh overrated hawt takes. Brian Kelly (although I think he's an ass) and Jim Harbaugh are elite coaches that are simply operating under different constraints. When Kelly has tried to take some elite but borderline academic recruits, it backfired with some scandals that Notre Dame won't accept. Harbaugh is very unlikely to attempt any shortcuts.
College football is a farce. When star players don't even set foot on campus they are not student-athletes..it's simply a development factory for the NFL tied to the brand of the school by name.
December 18th, 2019 at 2:41 PM ^
This is probably the most realistic and truthful post I have seen in a long time.
December 18th, 2019 at 8:09 PM ^
Not to rip what is an overall good post with facts, but some of the points are simply not factual. We have a bigger recruiting budget than OSU. We pay our coaches more than OSU. It’s not because we are not spending money, we are just not getting the same value for the money we spend.
December 19th, 2019 at 10:13 AM ^
Logged in just to upvote Bo Harbaugh's post. It was several years ago when Michigan took a hard stance on academic admissions that affected athletes which I knew in turn would affect our results on the field. We simply do not accept players who do not meet a certain threshold of academics. Just over the last few years we have had several players not admitted, transferred, or kicked off the team due to poor grades, i.e. Chris Evans. When was the last time a player of significance was booted from a team such as OSU, Clemson, or Bama?
ND is in a similar shoe as UM. It shows in the results. A coach like Harbaugh is a godsend for the program. He brings recognition and credibility to the program. Yes, he is over paid but he is good for the program and what the administration seeks.
December 20th, 2019 at 8:56 AM ^
actually quite a few at all three.
December 19th, 2019 at 10:54 AM ^
Michigan hasn't been a national power since the Gilded Age.
