In-state prospects committing elsewhere (don't panic)

Recently, Pitt got a couple commitments from Detroit (MI) Cass Tech offensive tackle Terrence Enos - no relation to "4-jobs-in-2-years Dan" - and Detroit (MI) King offensive tackle Brandon Honorable. They're the #532 and #854 players in the country, respectively, but neither had a Michigan offer. (FWIW, even without the top in-state linemen that exist in this 2021 class, I don't think Enos or Honorable would have been offered by Michigan in most recruiting cycles.)

Meanwhile, one guy who did report an offer is Detroit (MI) Harper Woods center Davion Weatherspoon, who committed to the Ohio Bobcats (3-star, #938 overall).

Belleville (MI) Belleville WR Deion Burks committed to Purdue (3-star, #980 overall).

Michigan currently has 17 players committed to Power 5 schools in 2020, and last year there were 24 altogether by the end of the 2020 cycle. That current number of 17 doesn't include Damon Payne, Donovan Edwards, Rocco Spindler, Garrett Dellinger, Rayshaun Benny, Jamari Buddin, Andrel Anthony, and Ru'Quan Buckley, who are an additional 8 guys that will almost certainly end up at Power 5 schools (they have Michigan offers). Then of course there are other, lower rated guys who will probably end up signing with lower-level Power 5 programs (Purdue, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, etc.).

I don't have historic numbers, but it does seem that Michigan not only has some top talent (Edwards, Spindler, Payne, Dellinger, etc.) but also has quite a bit of depth in this 2021 class. I always like to keep an eye on Michigan guys, so it will be interesting to see how Burks, Honorable, etc. do over the next few years.

I say all five and four stars commit to tha Ivy League schools, and all one star recruits commit to all major power five teams. Pretty sure a majority power five coaches would be fired because they couldn't win with one stars.

Good sign for the future that we are having a lot of in state talent.

Side question.

My buddy told me that he saw a post on the Wokverine that TJ Guy blew up at a camp last weekend.

Can anyone clarify what is going on here?   They are having prospect workouts now?  If they are how many attended?   Do they have additional info on Guy.

Not a camp. Just a workout between a couple of Massachusetts players. TJ Guy, Louis Hansen, Casey Phinney, Zak Zinter, and Kalel Mullings were there as well as a couple future targets. EJ Holland (rivals Michigan reporter) has videos on his Twitter. He’s a good follow for this kind of stuff though idk how much to trust his opinion sometimes. As in he seems super optimistic on everything which may just be part of the job of being a Michigan recruiting reporter.

I like E.J. Holland, but it was a very contrived setting with just a few prospects. Holland posted on Twitter a few videos of T.J. Guy terrorizing 2022 offensive tackle prospect Sully Weidman.

Keep in mind that there were NO OTHER OFFENSIVE LINEMEN lined up, I don't think there was a ball, and there was no QB, just a cameraman behind the line about 6 yards (presumably Holland himself). How does an offensive tackle block a single guy standing out in the middle of the field with no idea where that guy is going to go and no help inside? Those drills aren't very useful in a camp setting when you have other linemen there, let alone standing in the middle of a field.

I'm not saying it was good or bad. It is what it is. You can't have a big event right now. But that "camp report" should be taken with a gigantic grain of salt.

Thanks for the clarification guys.

Magnus did you see anything in the way he moves to improve your opinion.

Holland seems to think he's a good basketball player.  I'm not sure you can be good at basketball at 6'4"and be too stiff for Dline.

Cass Tech, Detroit King, West Bloomfield, Belleville.  Those 4 schools produce the majority of Power 5 recruits .  Are they doing anything special to develop all these guys?  Are other high schools just not trying?

I'm not an expert on the current MHSAA rules but I believe that it is relatively easy for kids to transfer into schools outside their official school district now. When you add players who are outside the schools' immediate area King, Cass Tech, and West Blomfield are located in the midst of a very big population of high level talents. I'm not sure about Bellville but I am pretty sure the other schools' success on the field means they typically have some key players who have transferred in.
