Stadium Update Engineering Webcams

Submitted by Blazefire on
I noticed today that the webcam for the one side of the stadium is down, replaced with a "No" screen. I assume this is because that side has been finished for quite some time. I also notice that the bricking view from Crisler is JUST about finished (just the tunnel left to do). After this is finished (which I assume will be for the start of the season), and the glass is put over the end of the other box, are there any plans to move the webcams? For instance, will one be put inside the box to show the internal finishing process? Will one focus on the deconstruction of the old press box this fall? Or will they simply sit, showing nothing for a while, till somebody remembers to turn them off? Speaking of which, will it be possible to buy an souvineer portion of the old press box (a piece of tile or a door knob or something) when it comes down?

I noticed the same thing about the webcams...assumed the "No" meant no signal. I had actually asked the very same questions to the Athletic Dept. about more/different webcams to be strategically located around the stadium, with similar suggestions. We'll see if the growing drumbeat of fan interest will spur more cams or a variety of views. There are new pics at mgoblue.com loaded on July 1 with a few captions that provide some information as to glass-in timing, pressbox demolition timing, etc. The souvenir idea is a pretty good one. Don't know if it'd be an eBay event, blowout event like with the old NIKE wear, or what. I suggest another letter writing campaign to commence immediately!

I can put the piece on my wall next to the framed piece of turf. I'm a sucker for stupid things like this and the Athletic Department just rakes in the cash with them. Ooh, ooh. We can use the extra revenues brought in and schedule a home and away with Georgia. /sarcasm

I'm sure if the idea was brought up with any amount of support, the athletic department would sell pieces of the press box. As a Chicago fan, I know that my family and my friends' families have bought pieces of Soldier Field and Chicago Stadium when construction was taking place. I don't think it would even be that difficult because they're going to have to take the pressbox apart carefully anyway as its surrounded by structures they don't want to damage. Also, what is the site for the webcams?

Blue or maize bricks? The eagle on the corner of the roof? Or will the eagle land elsewhere on top of one of the new structures? My understanding is it's plywood flooring, so nothing too sexy there. Though anything from the "Bo Suite" would be pretty cool. (Does anyone use that particular box now? Story had it that he would sit in there by himself and watch the games after he'd retired.)

Of particular interest to me is that, if all of the glass is installed before the start of this season, then we don't need to wait until next year to see if the whole increased crowd noise effect is for real. Should be interesting...

I think that for the most part this should be true. The old press box might prevent the full crowd sound potential. If anyone was at the spring game, as I was, it did seem to be louder. Then again, I usually sit near the top for actual games, and I was sitting in row 5 for the spring game. Thoughts anyone?

From where I live I have a great view of the construction process on the East side. The bricking is almost complete, except for the top 5 feet or so around elevator shaft. They have begun power-washing the side of the stadium and are now about halfway complete. The glass has started going in on the north stairwell on the East side. For anyone who does not have the luxury of seeing construction in person, standing at the outside of the tunnel and looking up at the new structure, it is really impressive. Also, for those who haven't seen the new indoor practice facility, wow. The interior is just mammoth. I doubt that many pro teams have a facility as nice, and it should help with recruiting. Sail Boat will be remembered for all the building he has done on the athletic campus.

Yeah, looking back at one of the first RichRod and Bill roadshows (May or June 2008 in Dearborn), that was one of Bill Martin's first comments: (Paraphrasing) "I'm renting all the construction cranes in southeast Michigan." And for the record, RichRod didn't swear once at this function! (I need a *flip-off* emoticon right here.) Speaking of the "new" barn...what happens to the old one? Is this the "new" lax facility? Still called Oosterbaan, especially if the new one is called Glick?

I have not heard that it was going to be called Glick, but I will continue to call it the house that RichRod Built (even though it was planned well before he arrived). I seem to remember hearing, then again I could be wrong, that Oosterbann will continued to be used by everyone not wearing a football helmet.

It will stay Oosterbaan. It was already used by lax and other sports, including intramurals. Now everyone gets more time in there bc football has another place to be. There was also concern about the roof being too low. There were a couple quotes from Zoltan about him consistently hitting the ceiling with lightning bolts from his eyes with his punts.

I just checked and yeah it still just says NO. they will probably move it since that structure it basically done. I with they would finish the curtain wall before this season instead of 2010 though.

I don't think some of the cameras are live. There seems to be a large shadow on the west side of the east structure. Or maybe I don't know my easts from my wests.
