Stadium Stock Exchange
It's time for another year of MGoBlog Stadium Stock Exchange. Basically you buy and sell shares of NCAA football teams whose value is based on their regular season win total. I had a blast doing it last year. And buying Kansas week one at $0.50 a share was too easy.

He supposedly fixed the methodology to prevent another Kansas / Duke situation from happening this year. We'll see.

What happened with Kansas/Duke last year?

They were both valued under 10 (10pts per win), so everyone put all their money on them and they won games. It blew the game so that nobody else had a chance to catch up

Didn't know this existed before. Pretty cool way to keep interested in non-UM CFB happenings. Thanks for sharing!

I actually really enjoyed this simulation last year even though I didn't exactly do much more than break even (approximately) in the end. It was a neat exercise that, when it was over, made me feel like a fool for not buying up all of the Seminole stock and retiring to the Cayman Islands under a clever MGoPseudonym.

Anybody else having a problem making trades on their site? When I try to buy shares, the number of shares is just a dropdown box with only the option to buy '0' shares?

Hey guys,
Founder/CEO here. Glad you are back for Year Two.
MichTits, thanks for alerting us to this problem. We think it may be because JavaScript is disabled in your browser -- but we are working to fix this issue.
Regarding the Kansas/Duke situation - yes, we have totally rebuilt the trading engine to prevent this from happening. You'll notice that this year trades clear immediately, prices move much more quickly, and prices will also react to wins/losses much faster.
Would love to hear any feedback you have!

Just signed up and I'm playing around, found one feature suggestion quickly: It would be nice if we could filter stocks by conference.

That's a great suggestion! We'll definitely do that. We are also considering allowing people to buy stock in entire conferences (eg., buy/short shares in all Pac-12 teams at once). Is this something you'd be interested in doing?

I like that a lot. Especially during bowl season.

idea a lot. Good parallel to trading an index.

Whatever happened to the Pick 6 contest?
August 26th, 2014 at 7:12 PM ^
Prices are wayyyy too high for most teams. Almost all of my positions are short.

I agree that a lot of teams are overpriced! That said, prices should also include bowl games. So most teams have a shot at 13 games, some 14 games (for those who also play in a conf championship), and four teams may even play 15 games (with the new playoff). Curious, were you aware that this is/was the case? I don't think we're doing a good enough job making that clear.

I was. If I felt they had a shot at a bowl game, I have them an additional half win. If I thought they had a shoot at the national title, I gave them an additional .75 wins.
Not everyone in the SEC can win 10 games

Actually if I remember correctly it does include bowl games. So what I originally said is incorrect.

Michigan fanbase is ranked 1st right now. OSU @ 7th.
