Great stuff. I feel like Crawford is a guy who could sneak up and have a break out season at WR. With the receiver haul this year it's easy to forget that he was a top 100 recruit in 2016.

I want to avoid getting too political, so maybe he's getting a raw deal, but bad things happen when you mess around with the police. I don't get why that's such a difficult concept for so many people.

Yes, and bad things happen at State when you don't have 'home court' advantage.  If you are a State guy like Demetrious Cox you get a littering fine for punching a cabbie and refusing to pay the fare.  But cutting in line and then running from someone who tells you to stop warrants a serious penalty if you go to U of M.  Fuck them.

If this goes to court Perry is f***ed. I have some experience with Judge Draganchuk, and she has no mercy. I'm not sure if she usually hears these types of cases though - was honestly surprised to see her name on this. Someone is playing hardball with Perry.

which is an acronym for the holmes youthful trainee act.  it is a procedure where a given defendant under the age of 21 (and now for some things, 25) can plead guilty, even do jail or prison time, but if they get through a probationary period successfully the case goes away as if it didn't happen.  it also becomes a 'non-public' record.

it is not required that the prosecution agree to this, but it sure does help if you are trying to persuade a judge to do this.

Maybe. I have some doubts that the book gets thrown at Michigan players in the City of Ann Arbor, but maybe I'm wrong. For example, it seems like several of our guys have had alcohol issues that didn't get pushed very hard. Jourdan Lewis is going through something right now that isn't completed, so we'll see how far that goes.

I'd be interested to see how MSU players have fared when getting into trouble in Ann Arbor. Does anyone remember such an incident?

EDIT: I also know of one player on a past Michigan team (within the past decade) whose sexual assault was swept under the rug. He's a very well liked player 'round these parts. If you don't know who I'm talking about...that kind of proves my point.

Magnus, you are usually very careful about these issues. Are you saying there was a proven sexual assault (which is a imprecise term given the spectrum of what a sexual assault might be). Also what does "swept under the rug" mean? If we are going to call out the university or law enforcement for not administering justice in a fair way you need to be more specific. It's a serious charge and shouldn't be made casually. If Michigan or AA didn't do the right thing let's call it out. It is the most effective way to confront the misbehavior you imply.

If it were proven in a court of law, then it couldn't have been swept under the rug. We would all know about it.

That being said, I'm not in the business of taking down the powers that be. I'm no Wolverine Devotee. I'm just saying that I think MSU guys probably get home cooking in East Lansing, and Michigan guys probably get home cooking in Ann Arbor, at least to some extent.

EDIT: I typed a bunch more here, but I'm deleting it. I'm just not going down this avenue any further.

Ann Arbor town is pure and clean as the wind driven snow, for sure. That said, if anyone truly doubts that Michigan student athletes don't participate in their fair share of "shenanigans", and said "shenanigans" aren't occasionally willfully and purposefully obfuscated by trusted individuals, then I've got some prime Kansas oceanfront I'll let go for a song.

You don't have to wink and say "boys will be boys" to believe that a career ender and jail time is pretty harsh for a mid-argument ass grab. And taking a felony charge to a jury for (very briefly) running from the cops? This sort of thing almost always gets plead down, and Perry is apparently not being offered that choice. He deserves some punishment, but this still seems like a raw deal unless there's something much worse than what's in the reports (which seems unlikely, since it was in front of witnesses).

Well, clearly he deserves the death penalty, since in your world there's no such thing as excessive punishment. Now that I've treated your statement with the charity you gave mine: For this incident as it's described, pleading it down to a misdemeanor with probation / a suspended sentence, some community service? That seems to be the usual approach for people that aren't rival football players. Team wise, suspend him for a year with a hard but fair path to earn his way back afterwards. Modify the exact details as appropriate for the provable facts. EDIT: I don't know or particularly care to know if Perry has any priors. I'm working off the assumption he doesn't, and that the "sexual contact" in this case was a presumably brief outside-the-clothes grab of a woman's groin during an altercation between the woman and several of her friends and Perry and several of his friends. Turns out there's a lot of area between "ignore it" and "throw the book at him". I was fairly clear that that's what I was advocating, so stop trolling.

I'm not trolling. What you're advocating is a slap on the wrist: no jail time, suspended sentence, community service. The reason that type of resolution isn't appropriate is the sexual nature of what he did, assuming the proof is there. Sorry, but that's not a community service-type offense. I assume you must have a mother, wife, girlfriend or daughter in your life. How would you feel if they were violated in that way by some drunk idiot? A little actual jail time for that is not out of line.

Implying that I'm advocating "nothing", which you did in your initial response, is trolling. For reference, Csont'e York got 7 days in jail for sucker punching a guy and breaking his jaw, and was offered a youth offender program that gets it expunged when he's 21. To advocate for significantly more than that for Perry is to say that getting grabbed in the crotch (again, during an apparent argument and shoving match) is worse than getting your jaw busted. I have no problem saying the former seems less severe, regardless of which member of my family you try to guilt me into hypothesizing. Aside: the felony charge is for fleeing arrest. The actual sex crime he is being charged with is criminal sexual conduct in the 4th degree, a misdemeanor. I'd encourage you to look up what's covered by that statute - what Perry is alleged to have done is bad, but the statute covers things I believe are much worse (e.g. a caretaker sexually fondling a mentally handicapped person), so a maximum sentence really would seem harsh.

Same here, then I read about our safety depth in the next sentence and I'm slightly terrified if someone gets hurt. We really need to land a couple studs at safety this recruiting class.

Eh I don't necessarily agree. We have safeties, they're just young and unproven. That's not going to change by adding a recruit. You're just going to be adding another young and unproven kid. That's not going to ease your worries. I mean don't get me wrong, I'll take a top notch safety recruit. I just don't see it as a big need. The article even says, we have the starting two, JKP is impressing but he needs to put on some weight, Woods is also an EE so he's getting reps, and Hudson could always slide back and play safety as well. This doesn't even consider the likelyhood that Brad Hawkins is going to play safety at Michigan instead of WR. You're talking 5 (possibly 6) guys, all Juniors (Kinnel is the only Junior) or younger to fill two spots. The depth is fine, it's simply unproven.

I’ve heard a few good things about Ty Isaac, but previous hype has led to just a bit of playing time, so an absence of hype means . . . I don’t know.

Still kind of interested in seeing what ultimately comes of Ty Isaac and if he sees the field a little more often. Evans, Walker and Higdon as the top three at RB seems about right, in my own estimation.

I hope that the "beef" with Ty not getting carries is resolved, but I'm not counting on it.

I guess the vibe coming from me is that Harbs wanted a power runner in these big games (Isaac = 0 carries vs OSU and FSU). He's found himself on the doghouse for 2 years now.

I do remember one play in particular against Wisconsin deep in Michigan's end when it was tied. He almost lost the ball without being touched, in what would have been a game changing fumble. I was at the game and distinctly remember Wheatley ripping him a new asshole on the sideline for what seemed like a solid 5 minutes. IIRC, he didn't get any more carries that game.
