Is 2020 Sparty Basketball basically 2020 Michigan Football? (Big fools gold early win)They are getting foot stomped by the gophers right now!

73-47.  Gosh, heartbreaking.

there is no jinx; superstitious silliness.

now 75-47 under 3 minutes left.

They just don't have an offensive identity and their defense is suspect.  I think they'll improve a bit as the season goes on but if Henry and Watts are your top two offensive players you're going to have some issues.

I agree, beat the Nebraska and Penn State's of the conference and then try to at least split with all of the good teams. If you pull off a sweep or beat a few teams you play once, you have a chance at 13 or 14 wins. We get Illinois, Iowa and Rutgers at home and those are one plays.

Fat chance of them missing the tournament.  Izzo’s name is always an automatic qualifier no matter the record. I can think of 4 seasons where they had 19-14 records (8-8 in the Big Ten) and they still got invites every time.

And even though Duke is un-Duke like this year, Sparty is still going to get major props for that win.

The only way MSU doesn’t get invited to the tourney is if they lose at least 17 games, I would think.

Don’t think MSU is as bad as they looked tonight, but they are not a very good team. Basically, they are a bunch of role players who are all third options on offense at best.

Izzo needs to reshape the team identity. Have a heart-to-heart with them and try to mold them into some kind of a scrappy, hard nosed, blue collar team. They have no stars or Alpha dogs to build around.

I agree.  They aren't complete dog poop.  Some nice pieces, Hauser and Gabe Brown have length and decent jumpers.  Watts has athleticism.  Hall has a high motor and seems to have good on court instincts.

But no point guard to efficiently run the half court and to big man presence under the basket makes Sparty a bubble team in a balanced and deep big ten.

Team gets what they deserve. Don't like Izzo and think he is vastly overrated; not sure as a prospect how you can look at what he does with the players that come in and their talent and think this is a good career move.

Foster Loyer is hilariously useless. He is at least a year behind developmentally and should have been the guy on the ball this year trying to distribute and run the offense. He currently struggles to stay on the court because he is so mediocre all around, maybe a Just a Shooter type at best.

Henry clearly feels the pressure to be the one guy who can do it all and grit you out your wins; be the captain, try to take over the game. Sadly, he needs more cohesion around him to do those things and is still far too inconsistent and makes poor decisions at too high a clip

Langford is a sad case due to his injury, and he looks like a shell of what he once was. Not sure if he will ever recover, but he was been very underwhelming this year.

Kithier is just a glue guy and provides them exactly that.

Watts is now in year 2 of the Izzo developmental process, where he actually takes a step back from the good things he did as a freshman that showed you he had promise. He is now virtually unable to generate any offense, and has become less effective on the defensive end of the floor than he was last season. He is still a good athlete and I'm sure he pops off 2 or 3 more times this year for 20 point games, but he has no confidence and is lost on the floor because this team has no identity and looks just like 5 guys playing a pick up game, because that's basically what it is.

Gabe Brown is actually having a solid showing so far, but I think this is a guy that maybe lives in Izzo's dog house. He is shooting over 50% from 3 and 60% on FGs and is 100% from the FT line. That's not on a ton of volume, but it shows that he is capable. They should be running more sets to get him open from deep. I do believe he is a liability on defense tho.

Cissoko so far has been fine had this been a team where he is only needed for 5-7 minutes a game. The fact that they truly need him to be good for 20-30 min is going to be an issue for this team for the entire season. He will get better, but he won't get anywhere near that level.

Marble III has shown a lot of promise in his limited action at times. He works hard down low and scraps for buckets. Have noticed he can be slow and get caught watching on defense; general lack of knowing what to do it seems.

Marcus Bingham Jr. looks like he legitimately has gotten worse since showing up to MSU. He is constantly lost on the court, shows no ability to flash and make plays, and looks extremely slow and awkward most of the time he is on the floor.

Malik Hall has actually also been very solid. He has shown the ability to hit a jumper as well as scoring inside the arc, and is fair at distributing the ball. In this broken offense, it shouldn't be so hard to shake up the minutes and distribute more to these couple guys doing the right things.

Joey Hauser is the guy I think they should be playing around. I told this to my MSU coworker and he had some reservations about it, but so far this is the only person who has shown me any kind of fight or grit and someone who brings it every game. He might not have his shot every game, but he works hard doing the little things and I think he is capable ENOUGH that they should be playing through him more, taking some pressure off of Henry, trying to use Loyer and Brown as spot up guys, and allowing Watts to work off the ball a bit more. This could open up a lot more for guys like Hall and Henry to make cut action or work screens to get them open looks.

A lot of this is probably dumb shit, and there is plenty more to discuss, but honestly this team is not good because they have zero cohesion and Izzo and staff have done such a poor job of developing this talent and teaching these young men what the game plan is and how to prepare and utilize tools in game situations. They waste a ton of possessions and a lot of the time burn 85% of the shot clock just passing around the perimeter just waiting for something to happen.

Their defense, especially on the interior, is actually quite bad. But they remain dangerous on the offensive end. Not a very Izzo team at all. Little grit. Ha ha fucky you, Draymond Green.
