Something "silent" happening today - per TomVH twitter
"There's something happening today, but you probably won't hear about it for awhile since it's "silent"…."
Im assuming this is a silent commitment? Or something of the silent but deadly variety? Any speculation?
Discuss.
Great, but he did all that when he had Jeff Casteel running the D. Without Casteel he struggled mightily. Maybe we hired the wrong WVU coach.
Oh, statistics can be fun. Who needs context? Right? Right?
RR won "A" BCS Bowl Game. If you're going for accuracy.
If you're going for accuracy, Bobby Williams has won more bowl games as a college head coach than Brady Hoke.
Crediting interim head coaches for bowl wins makes no logical sense.
And then he had his shot at the big time, and failed miserably. Rich had too, and had his shot, and failed miserably. Hoke is getting his shot. And may fail miserably. But I'm at least letting him coach some seasons, no less a game, no less a spring game, before I think he's a lock to fail. Not that you've said that, but that's what the OP was getting at.
And I don't know how you can't give credit to the interim guy. Yes, he doesn't get credit for building the program, but for that game? He was the coach who won it. There are so many factors that go into waiting 30 days for a bowl game anyway....motivations, lay off reaction, etc., that's it's a bit of coaching slight of hand already. We'll never know what happened if Saban had stayed, or Rich had stayed. Does the team have the same motivation to show the world they're still good after their coach "abandoned" them? How much work did it take the interim guy to hold the team together in the turmoil of transition, and not come out with no one caring, and every man for himself attitude, that has the team going through the motions, and getting rocked? So I'll give Williams some credit. I mean, he wasn't even beating a Zook team, in Florida.
I'll give Bill Frieder credit for acquiring the players who could do it, but I'm not giving him a National Championship ring either.
Well, if Hoke can go 9-4 this year, he can get over .500 for his career. And he would be over .500 at Michigan, more importantly. Rich would have had to go 11-2 to get over .500 at Michigan this year. Which is all I really care about. And over the last 5 years, in the what have you done for me lately college football world, Hoke is 37-26, RR is 36-26. (I won't even get into the last 3 years, because that's cherry picking....though you might was well when you consider the level of programs each was taking over...)

wrong thread...
You say "good defense, and top 10 recruiting classes" like it's a bad thing.
Maybe it has something to do with James Ross or Ron Thompson
was my gut reaction
It would make sense, with RJS just committing, and likely one spot left at LB position. Not to mention they are both good friends, or maybe it could be Bolden or Thompson who have been Michigan leans.
Yeah that was exactly what I thought, Ross knows something big is happening here and wants to make sure hes a part of it.
The coaches might have told him at this time we only have one more spot for LBs. I would be happy with either Ross or Bolden. I guess this means that we might not get much interest from Rippy.
They'll take Ross at anytime no matter how many Linebackers have given their verbal. They will never turn down the top rated player in the state of Michigan.
Well did you really expect RJS to commit yesterday? I sure as heck didn't given the attention he has gotten lately. These are still kids that we are talking about, anything can happen.
Not to be Casper anymore?
Oh yes. It feels very good to be alive again. However, I had to open a new account and lost all my points. Oh well. It's better than talking to myself. Thanks for the advice!
Agreed He's never been as high on Michigan as RJS and will almost certainly take his time. I say good for him and if he decides to go Blue the staff will welcome the #1 player in Michigan with open arms.
I would say it has something to do with somebody close to royce. after the tweet royce had about being treated like a president after committing I think its richardson wanting to get in on being treated like that
Just read that he's currently heading down to visit a few SEC schools. Could explain the "silent" nature but also a long drive to make for no apparent reason.
I was thinking the same thing. It is probably someone who was at the spring game. I would be very excited for Sheldon Day.
Sheldon Day had his Michigan lanyard around his neck... and about a dozen other school lanyards sticking out of his jacket pocket. It was a pretty impressive collection! I saw MSU, Tennessee, Cincinnati, and Notre Dame among others. He said he was heading down to Virginia Tech next. I doubt it's him.
Coach Hecklinski was working Terry Richardson pretty hard after the game, telling him he needs to come to Michigan because "this is your home." Looked like it was making Terry a little uncomfortable... Doubt it's him either!
I'm gonna guess it's Bolden reserving his spot.
his HS coach is a Buckeye booster who perhaps would not support Day picking UM, or at least could make it very uncomfortable on him.
EDIT:
Here is the bio on his coach from his twitter (he is the one who tweeted that Day would be at M spring game which was re-tweeted by Tom)
If you're a silent commit, you're already hedging your bets.
The 10th dentist caved and now they're all recommending Tri-Dent?
TOMVH learning super secret silent secret of silence
= Tom on twitter.
Awesome reset and show.
Jordan diamond, or Bolden or Biggs-LB spots are at a minimum right now.
I'm thinking it's Ron Thompson(if he isn't already a silent commit).
If he is already a silent, then it wouldn't surprise me if it's James Ross. He knows that it's "shit or get off the pot" time for LBs in this class.
Ron Thompson looks surprsingly similar to James Rogers
I guess you could say they are both african american....
but not a whole lot...
Not at all

you are never called in for a police identification.
Would be disastrous.
I'm going to go ahead and say Zeke Pike. If it were Ross or some either in stater, why would it need to be silent, and why would we not hear it about it for a while? Pike makes sense, because his commitment isn't coming anytime soon.
Although, I'm completely wrong mind you, and it's likely Ross, given the number of Linebackers Michigan will take this class.
As others have said, when Pike pops everyone is going to know it. He's going to turn into the biggest recruiter for whatever school he commits to and wants to bring a monster class with him. He won't be silent.
Pike = 2011 version Juwan Howard
Maybe his name is Kris...
Thats horrible logic-why does anyone need to be silent-there are tons of reasons. I would say the chances of anyone over Zeke Pike being silent are high.
It could be Biggs (since he could be pressured to fill the last LB spot), Diamond (since he's been close for a while), or Day (his family wants him at Michigan). Biggs makes the most sense though - and I think this would mean that we don't have room for Bolden any longer.
I have to agree with Kris.. There really is no reason why Ross or Bolden would need to be silent...
