Some Rankings Updates
Stribling and DeMario Jones have been updated. Stribling is now the 28th ranked safety and is three stars - he's only about 3 players away from four stars, so that's a good jump.
DeMario Jones has jumped from unranked to three stars, but I didn't see anything as far as wide receiver rankings.

And that moves our team ranking up a spot and the average stars increase from 3.5somthing to 3.64. Now we're going to win more games in the future. Science!

why is the SEC better? It's the speed, my friend, it's the speed.

Nice to see him move up. I wasn't expecting it given the offense he plays in. I don't think we'll know what we have in Jones until he sees the field.

Often guys get 3 stars as a baseline if they are committed to a big name school and they haven't been scouted.
December 6th, 2012 at 12:01 PM ^
to that viewpoint. A more accurate reasoning is that major program coaches have a baseline at which they will offer a player and that baseline happens to coincide with what the recruiting services generally label with 3 stars. I don't doubt that some evaluators are lazy, but they're doing more than just throwing darts at a board.
December 6th, 2012 at 12:18 PM ^
That is what I was trying to get at. Big name schools do tend to have a talent floor. Thus the baseline 3 star is not representative of scouting the player rather it is more representative of an understanding of the talent level at a certain school.

Channing Stribling's rise in the rankings is representative of scouting, both in-person and on film. Butler just won a state title with a few BCS level players on the team, most notably Uriah LeMay. He's been evaluated and that is why his rating has changed and he's made such a sizable jump in the safety position rankings.
Edit: I would fix this... but it's hilarious... you know why.

I'm a 5.11

December 6th, 2012 at 11:49 AM ^
You're only a 5.11 if you can climb a 5.11
December 6th, 2012 at 10:33 AM ^
We are also barely 5th now on the rankings - not that it really matters. Also, pretty shocking to see teams like texas a&m have 32 commits for their class.
December 6th, 2012 at 10:38 AM ^
They're really taking this whole SEC thing seriously.
December 6th, 2012 at 11:31 AM ^
They always got a really fast start to recruiting. Early summer you'd always see Texas and A&M with around 20 commits. Surprise is seeing Texas with so few late in the game. Mack is really slipping in Austin.

He is an extremely sharp young man, but he is pretty quiet. He will do well in class at UM. He may be very under rated and a steal for UM. I am sure the coaches like him a lot. Great kid good family.

She probably didn't see it in 3-D. Makes all the difference.

Yeah that's what she told YOU, but little do you know she is still picturing you as Channing Tatum.

Also worth mentioning that York took a tumble down the WR rankings. He used to be the highest rated 3 star WR, he's now fallen to the 60s. I think this is more of a readinees to contribute thing though. I think he showed in his senior year that he has a lot to learn in terms of blocking and route running.

The star average for that USC class is insane (4.31). Highest since Rivals has been around. 2nd highest is USC in 2007 (4.22) and USC in 2010 (4.2), USC 2004 (4.05). Florida State is the only other team to ever break the 4 star average (4.09 in 2002).
ND has some talent, but it is insane the amount of talent of that Alabama team. Here is their team rankings for the past 5 years.
2008: Alabama (#1) Notre Dame (#2)
2009: Alabama (#1) Notre Dame (#21 - turned out to be a great class with Te'o, Eiffert, Riddick, Wood)
2010: Alabama (#5) Notre Dame (#14)
2011: Alabama (#1) Notre Dame (#10)
2012: Alabama (#1) Notre Dame (#20)

It is good to see our talent level moving up as well. Our rankings:
2008: #10
2009: #8 (a bunch of departures: Forcier, Emilien, Lalota, Stokes, Turner, Witty - many of these among our highest rated recruits in that class)
2010: #20 (I won't even list the departures, about 50% of the class)
2011: #21
2012: #7
2013: #5

Crazy with the rankings update there's only a 1 point difference between the 2nd and 3rd, and again between 3rd and 4th place classes. Once we get another commit we'll jump to the #2 class. LIkely stay there or steal #1 if more attrition happens at USC because we're likely to land 3 or more kids.
December 6th, 2012 at 11:48 AM ^
I believe Rivals only averages out the top 20 recruits in the class, so we'll only get a bump if the next commit is one of the 20 best in the class. If it's a low 3-star or 2-star kid, then it won't "help" our ranking.
December 6th, 2012 at 11:56 AM ^
You have a list of visitors for the 14th, or is it still up in the air?
December 6th, 2012 at 12:05 PM ^
I haven't put it together yet.
December 6th, 2012 at 12:10 PM ^
And aren't the Rivals team rankings based off of point totals instead of class average? Also noticed a 1 point difference between 5th and 6th place. Crazy coincidences abound.
December 6th, 2012 at 12:14 PM ^
Yeah, team rankings are based on point totals, not star averages. The star averages are just there to look at, really.

The OP asked about wide receiver rankings:
Laquon Treadwell -- 1
Eldridge Massington -- 33
Jaron Dukes -- 53
Csonte' Yok -- 67
December 6th, 2012 at 12:01 PM ^
Are there any top receivers out there besides Treadwell and Massington that have any interest in Michigan?
December 6th, 2012 at 12:08 PM ^
their lack of real assessment was actually bothering me, you guys
