Snowflakes Thread: Coaching vs. Ohio State

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

I am actually in Ann Arbor using a browser on a small tablet, so if this works, awesome for me (not for the game) -

This will be your thread for snowflakes and hot takes regarding the overall quality of the coaching versus Ohio State.

kalis said, after he decommitted from Ohio State, that there would be blood and that UM would score lots of points . He was 0-4 enough said. I guess he is used to the ass beatings by now. What a mistake to go to UM. He lost out on 4 gold pants and a NC.

That was so Hoke-esque. 14-10 at halftime. One team adjusted, the other did not. Durkin can go whenever he wants. Pre bowl game, even. Harbs has got some serious explaining to do.

Listen people, remember this is the same team who continued to get worse every year under Hoke, Coach Harbaugh has done a tremendous job turning these guys around, and have a winning record.

We were not supposed to win more than 5-6 games this year, according to most experts. If you want to truly judge this team, give it a couple years, when Jim has his guys in place, and Urban gets Ohio in trouble like his past record indicates. I am as upset as anyone from today's loss, however this year has giving me a lot to look forward to.... Wolverine fan for life, through the good & bad times, that is a true fan.

It's year one and obviously we've done great wrt expectations. However, Harbaugh & Durkin have to answer for why they had no answer for OSU's ground attack. I get the DL and LB were weakened and/or are terrible, but OSU hasn't gashed many teams like that at all this year. Michigan's D should've performed far better today

I just feel calling for a punt block is more for desperate situations in a game, because they're so risky. More times than not... you can't trust these young kids to execute a punt block without hitting the kicker. We were going to get good field position anyway. That penalty drastically changed the moment of the game.

I actually think the block attempt was executed quite well. Chesson bailed when he needed to, an the contact was on the punters kicking leg, which is allowable. The punter being knocked over by his own teammate was probably more influential in the penalty being called than anything else.

How do you come out so flat at home against a rival? How do you not gameplan for their bread and butter? How are the linebackers so soft and incapable of fighting off blocks?

0-2 against main rivals and blown out by 29 in the main one is not a good start Jim.

Michigan has to evaluate the players they recruit. None of these players, other than Peppers and a couple others have any swag or any "cockiness". Not the kind of cockiness that makes you look like a dick, but just the confidence to think that they are better than anyone else on the field. Michigan needs to recruit players with an edge. No matter who coaches this team, it's about execution. If the other team has better and more physical athletes, they win. Period. Peppers should be the prototypical recruit. Athlete that can be put at any position and excel. Qb is vital! Not looking for a Denard type (who I loved), but a top dual threat that can through the ball with accuracy. They exist. Ask Urban.

The last few years we lost, but we stay close cause one could argue we had better athletes on our team then than we do now. There was always the scare of Devin or Denard taking off so it kept the defense honest. We don't have that now. I don't care what anyone says, Devin Gardner with 3-4 years of harbaugh coaching would be dangerous.

Won't be able to sleep tonight. Every single one of our coaches performed about as bad as you could. Complete ineptitude from our staff from the top to the bottom.

P.S. Fire Baxter.

Baxter can't stop a dropped snap or bad tackling or a freshman running into the punter. Stop blaming the coaches for everything OSU was flat out better than us and has more talent

Urban came to Michigan twice and is 2-0. harbaugh made no difference except some of his and his son's foolish rants.

Durking & D staff lost this game. Failed to have enough #s in the box; man short against run all day except for a handful of snaps.

I can hear Brian at the press conference, to Durkin: "DO YOU KNOW WHAT A COUNTABLE BOX IS?!?"

I hate OSU fans more than anything and I cannot stand MSU fans but what I hate even more are the emotional stupid Michigan fans who are questioning what Jim Harbaugh and staff have done with this team this year. This was a highly disappointing game but OSU had by far their best game of the season. Not sure if there was anything we could have even done to change the result.

We can question him as much as we want. Deal with it.

The team has NEVER come out this flat against OSU under Hoke. What's Harbaugh's excuse?

Maybe he should start acknowledging OSU with the fervor he did as Michigan's QB b/c whatever the fuck he did this week didn't work.

Question him. I am just as pissed as all of us over this loss. I understand expectations rise a the season goes along but there were very few who thought we would do what we did this year. I am going to reserve my judgement on Harbaugh until we see how the team improves over the next couple of years. The problem today was we played a team who has been the most underperforming team in the nation and they played their best game of the year. As much as I would love to say we had a chance, I am not sure that was the case the way OSU played today. Kill Harbaugh all you want about the game today (if that is what you think lost us this game) but I think it is foolish to question the direction of the program with Harbaugh as our leader. That's all I am saying. GO BLUE!

It isn't about giving the coaches a free pass.  They should be asked hard questions about why the team was unprepared for their run game, or why they went for the punt block.  However, when posters are calling for Baxter to be fired and wishing for Durkin to leave, they are lacking massive amounts of perspective.

Sometimes, players have to make plays too.  When your senior LB's miss tackle after tackle, there isn't much a coach can do except pulling them, which they did.

Big picture, we are 9-3, and our coaches have done a hell of job this year.
