Smooth Talker - Maurice Linguist, Already going to work!
Before the ink is dry on his contract Maurice Linguist is trying to flip a 5 star CB commit he recruited to Texas. Denver Harris
I like this guy already!
January 20th, 2021 at 1:55 PM ^
According to 247 he hasn't committed anywhere
Hopefully, he can keep Will Johnson in the fold as well. Since Domani Jackson and Johnson are a package deal, it's possible we could have quite a few 5 star CB's
January 20th, 2021 at 2:58 PM ^
Domani gone. I think he is supposed to be announcing his commitment this weekend.
Will Johnson just did an interview yesterday where he said that he already knows where Domani is going and that he (Will) also likes the coach there, but that he hasn't decided yet and wants to see who the new cornerbacks coach at Michigan will be.
January 20th, 2021 at 3:22 PM ^
This is who the new cornerbacks coach will be. Self described:
Husband | Father | Texan | Leading Men and Training DBs | University of Michigan Co-Defensive Coordinator | A Man Distracted is a Man Defeated
I love the Texan reference. We've got what looks like an ace recruiter wired into Texas. Yes!! Let's get a few of those Texas 5 stars enrolling 190 miles north of Columbus.
January 20th, 2021 at 4:03 PM ^
the tealeaves on Will remind me of Donavan Edwards. Wants to go to Michigan but we were giving him almost every reason not to commit with how poorly we played last season. I hope the new hires can help refresh that relationship.
January 20th, 2021 at 11:18 PM ^
The thing about Edwards is that is one of the FEW situations in which that ended up working out in Michigan's favor. All the other times that played out, it didn't. Hopefully it goes the same way as Donovan Edwards'.

Linguist has reportedly offered a few others too per this Maize n brew article
January 20th, 2021 at 2:04 PM ^
There's so many 4 &5 star corners in Texas
January 20th, 2021 at 2:12 PM ^
With the amount of talent in that state that grows up rooting for Texas, it's shocking how long they've been mediocre. Michigan's bad stretch stinks, but it's also different. The talent in our state is average. You don't even have to leave the state to recruit a top-5 class at Texas.
January 20th, 2021 at 2:21 PM ^
Agreed on Texas' mediocrity. They have a ton of advantages, including not having to face a top-5 deathball every single year (I don't buy that Oklahoma is on the same level), and yet they've been noticeably worse than Michigan over our "bad stretch."
I was in school during the Rich Rod years. Amazing how many people have woefully short memories and don't understand that things could be much, much worse.
January 20th, 2021 at 2:35 PM ^
We don't have "woefully short memories" -- there were different levels of expected results with Harbaugh given Stanford, NFC championships, etc. We weren't bringing him in just so he would be a little bit better than RichRod or Hoke. 10 wins should be the absolute floor.
January 20th, 2021 at 2:44 PM ^
Why would Stanford and NFL success make you expect Harbaugh to bring a top 5 team and for 10 wins to be the floor?
January 20th, 2021 at 3:22 PM ^
Exactly, hAHa!
January 20th, 2021 at 3:45 PM ^
Did you forget to switch over to a different account?
January 20th, 2021 at 4:19 PM ^
Chernobyl has some experience with that issue
January 20th, 2021 at 4:22 PM ^
*Busted! Nice work!
January 20th, 2021 at 4:58 PM ^
No, I was laughing at the lack of response because all you clowns know your "expectations" were wrong.
By the way, there has never been any account that has agreed with 10% of what I post;
heck, even if I created a sock account, it would only agree with half of what I say.
January 20th, 2021 at 6:22 PM ^
Are you that dense? He had top 5 teams in college (at Stanford!) and the NFL.
January 20th, 2021 at 7:15 PM ^
Respectfully, I think comparing his time at Michigan to any of his previous stops is a bit of an apples to oranges comparison.
Every job has different hurdles. Stanford has crazy acceptance standards (like Michigan) and a culture of losing. Gotta give Jim credit for turning that program around. They were undeniably better when he was there than they are now.
San Francisco was also a remarkable turnaround in its own right. Obviously the NFL is a bit of a different game when it comes to roster building, but I think most would agree the 49ers took a big step forward as soon as he got there, and had a noticable dip for a few years after he left.
I think most would agree his record at Michigan is a bit of a mixed bag. We were all excited to get a program savior--and for a minute, it looked extremely promising. But after some untimely losses in many areas, things are beginning to feel grim. There have been big wins, but the devastating losses have been building up just as fast.
I think Jim's biggest challenge at Michigan is Ohio State. Anyone can see they're at a program high and one of college football's giants. Michigan needs to kill a giant if they hope to become one.
Jim seems to think he can do it.
Cheers

Well said.
January 20th, 2021 at 8:18 PM ^
Stanford was ranked in the top 5 for ONE game while Harbaugh was there.
Michigan has been in the top 5 FIFTEEN times since Harbaugh was here.
Success in NFL doesn't automatically transfer to college, everybody knows.
January 20th, 2021 at 3:27 PM ^
10 wins as the absolute floor is an insane way to think about Michigan football. You’ll be disappointed for the rest of your life.
January 20th, 2021 at 6:03 PM ^
'Woefully short memory and woefully misguided'
We ALL want to see Harbaugh achieve more but minus the covid year I'd bet he's not far behind the modern era averages. UM is in as tough a spot as it has been in my lifetime...coming off a period of seriously poor coaching hires (RR and Hoke) plus the historical run of OSU. I doubt there are many coaches that would do better. Plus, Harbaugh has given far more to the program than anyone here so I tend to think he's deserving of a bit more rope and I tend to think the loses are far more personal for him.
Besides...its just a game. This last year has def made it clear that there are far more important things.

Doublemint twins for your double post

Double booooiiiinnnngggg
January 20th, 2021 at 2:40 PM ^
I used to live in Texas and all the top talent is leaving the state for teams like OSU and Oklahoma. Hell, OSU probably has more kids from Texas starting than they do Ohio
January 21st, 2021 at 12:05 AM ^
If that's the case then we want to get the guys with chip on shoulders who thought they were good enough to instead be a take by OSU. Need to milk that and good, because at 17 years old often the guys that are picked in a small group don't turn out to be the best anyway.
January 21st, 2021 at 8:29 AM ^
M doesn't need kids OSU doesn't want. M needs kids OSU wants. Full. Stop.
January 20th, 2021 at 3:08 PM ^
Maybe their coaching/player development has sucked?
January 20th, 2021 at 4:13 PM ^
The fact that Miami, USC, and Texas aren't in the same tier as OSU, Clemson, and Alabama is really a joke. Those teams are the premiere university in the hottest recruiting areas in the country. They should be reeling in 3-5 5* recruits a year just by proximity and brand alone.
January 21st, 2021 at 4:56 AM ^
Yet, they don’t. What’s you theory/observations as to why??
January 20th, 2021 at 4:34 PM ^
Maybe they really aren't all 4 and 5* after all, but they sell a ton of subscriptions in Texas.
January 20th, 2021 at 2:00 PM ^
So, trying to move Denver from Texas to Michigan. What’s next Washington DC to Texas?
January 20th, 2021 at 2:13 PM ^
Your comment reminded me of when we were recruiting Denver Warren from Illinois. That seems like it was so long ago, but he's still in Prep school.
January 20th, 2021 at 5:34 PM ^
Please no. Keep that shit hole swamp where it is.
January 20th, 2021 at 2:02 PM ^
How could he have recruited the kid to Texas if he was in the pro's last year?
January 20th, 2021 at 2:21 PM ^
He didn't. Plus the kid is a 2022 player and has not committed anywhere so no flipping or ink drying or anything the OP was suggesting
January 20th, 2021 at 2:02 PM ^
He never worked for Texas. He coached at Texas A&M
January 20th, 2021 at 2:06 PM ^
Yeah, and that?
January 20th, 2021 at 2:04 PM ^
Very Cunning

Nice. The new coach already identified the problem and is trying to fix it. I can’t wait to see what the new DL coach is doing
January 20th, 2021 at 4:18 PM ^
What new DL coach? Isn't Nua staying on?
January 20th, 2021 at 4:35 PM ^
He's Nua and improved.
January 20th, 2021 at 5:22 PM ^
Very well said. You must be a linguist yourself.
January 20th, 2021 at 6:20 PM ^
A cunning one at that!
January 20th, 2021 at 2:06 PM ^
Never hurts to have a Linguist on staff. Could also help with international recruits.
January 20th, 2021 at 3:46 PM ^
Especially if their cunning....
January 20th, 2021 at 2:11 PM ^
This is great, but I also think further evidence that Domani Jackson is headed elsewhere.
I also don't believe Jackson and Will Johnson are 100% a package deal. We see recruits say that every cycle and it rarely happens. Even in Johnson's latest interview after his visit to USC, he was very non-committal about being a package deal with Jackson, basically saying "yeah, if we like the same school and it's the right fit for both of us."
