SIAP: OSU Fans donate to ChadTough

Submitted by canzior on November 29th, 2021 at 12:57 PM

I went back 3 pages and didn't see it posted yet.  Apparently there is an 11 Warriors tradition where they would donate to ChadTough after The Game.  I wasn't aware that this was a thing, but many have donated 27.42 to ChadTough and I love it.  It's good that despite all the rivalry hatred and Twitter wars, there are actual people on both sides that care about things bigger than sports.

It is nice to see that some things do in fact transcend this rivalry. I like that Ramzy donated in the amount of the score too. I chuckled admittedly. Typing those numbers, even if he put OSU's points first, were probably painful, but he's a genuinely good guy, by all accounts.

On this general topic. I thought the OSU fan base this year was surprisingly amicable even before the game.

I usually see at least a few fights and a bunch of other similar shit. But not this year.

This is among the best part of the old rivalry (not much of a rivalry the last 12- 15 years). I have two good friends who are Buckeyes have heard from one of them. Excluding Saturday M has not done its part in recent years - hopefully that trend is now on the mend for years to come.

Back in the day, I'd only known Ohio folks from the jerks who came to Ann Arbor for the game.

So in the Army, it was a complete surprise that the two favorite guys I worked with—my best desk sergeant and my friend still—were from Ohio.

Remember that kid who had brain cancer and nicknamed it "Michigan" so he would beat it? https://www.mansfieldnewsjournal.com/story/news/2019/02/11/grant-reed-ohio-state-buckeye-fan-dies-cancer-battle-nationwide-childrens-hospital/2835602002/

He died 2 years ago. His parents asked for memorial donations to be made to the Chance for Hope foundation. See here: https://www.nbc4i.com/sports/buckeyes/memorial-set-for-popular-osu-fan-grant-reed/1774325835/

Maybe we can donate to them in the amount of the score, but reversed to put Michigan's score in front. $42.27. If you can put a message, say "For Grant Reed. Beat Michigan!"  Chance for Hope is at chanceforhopefoundation.org

I'm negbombed, so I can't post it as a thread. Anyone else?

Love it. To me this is what it’s all about. Having lived out of state away from the extreme fanaticism of our rivalries, and maybe just growing older, I’ve mellowed on the hatred of rivalry. Still very passionate about them, but I much prefer this kind of fan behavior along with light-hearted ribbing. Call me crazy, but it’s so much more enjoyable to enjoy a thing together from respectfully opposing perspectives than be dicks to strangers, work associates, or the like. I totally get the many of you living among the insanity not having the luxury distance has afforded me though.

I can tolerate the OSU fans better than the MSU fans.  Most of them are classy and have respect for the rivalry and opponent. I truly noticed that over the weekend and way back in 90's as well.

MSU fans on the other hand are given the title "little brother" for a reason.  They act like a bunch of angry elves even when they win or lose.

To the 11W site admins who host this effort and to the Buckeye fans who participate...you guys transcend the rivalry and are great human beings.

Awesome to see, I recall the schools doing a friendly rivalry on who can raise the most blood donations during the week of the Game.

Back in 2015 I was getting increasingly anxious about seeing how much we hated each other. I don't mean Ohio State-Michigan fans, I mean Americans. It was political, leave it at that. Between the sentiment of we cannot survive by hating each other and being gutted by Chad Carr's story and just the bullshit idea of children dying from cancer, I thought hey maybe let's channel righteous anger-hate for something else.

Every year, no matter what. Do some good when you win, do some good when you lose. It's petty cash that you can use to snowball into something significant, but also something not constructed from righteous anger-hate. A Michigan charity for Ohio State fans to fund. There are plenty of worthy and legitimate charities if you're interested. This is the one Ryan Day began

Day's father died by suicide when he was nine years old. It's a mental health charity you can learn more about at the link. Congrats on the win, it's the best feeling.
