SIAP: Michigan Monday is up
https://theozone.net/2019/09/michigan-monday-forgiven/
A day late, so not sure if it’s already been posted, but Michigan Monday is up. Behind our “Opponent Watch”, probably one of the weekly articles I enjoy the most.
October 1st, 2019 at 1:06 PM ^
Well that was mildly depressing.
October 1st, 2019 at 1:11 PM ^
Why? It's entirely accurate. Our own team of writers here said almost the same thing. A fun win, but comes with the Rutgers caveat.
October 1st, 2019 at 1:18 PM ^
Because I prefer to live in self-delusion about how good we are (or can be) and he did an excellent job of holding up the mirror, as per usual.
Last season was fun, until OSU. I don't think we're getting that this year.
October 1st, 2019 at 1:16 PM ^
Didn't this guy predict that Michigan would beat OSU rather handily last year?
October 1st, 2019 at 1:18 PM ^
Damn near everyone did.
October 1st, 2019 at 1:55 PM ^
I would have bet my car that we would beat Ohio state last year. Never been so wrong in my life
October 1st, 2019 at 2:20 PM ^
This year, just bet Brian's car.

I don't remember the last time I was convinced we'd win going into the game. I thought it many times pre-season, but not going into the game. We still don't match up well. Their DEs will eat us for lunch and we won't be able to stop their offense. Such is life.
October 1st, 2019 at 4:15 PM ^
well you didn't bet it. So you're smarter than you think.
October 1st, 2019 at 1:13 PM ^
Speaking of Opponent Watch, I miss it. Need me some OW!
October 1st, 2019 at 1:47 PM ^
I know, right?
October 1st, 2019 at 1:14 PM ^
Good read as always. Accurate in every way and should be reflective of our entire fanbase's mindset. Beating Rutgers comes with an asterisk.
October 1st, 2019 at 3:52 PM ^
Fortunately for us a win with an asterisk counts the same as any other win. If we win out we'll be in the playoffs, if not we'll go to another who the fuck cares bowl.

this was pretty funny: Rutgers is basically a skinny mirror in the best lighting. They make everybody look good.
October 1st, 2019 at 1:34 PM ^
It's true. Rutgers only tells you when you're bad.
October 1st, 2019 at 2:37 PM ^
At least we aren't bad!
But seriously we did get Milton and some backups really important reps, which is important
We held a defensive shutout, which is always important for the defense
We came of it without any major injuries
These are all wins in my book.

Even Kansas blew them out last season.

“Defensive lineman don’t stay blocked very long.”
He’s spot-on but the UFR on MGoBlog will say otherwise.
October 1st, 2019 at 1:38 PM ^
The indifference with which Gerd wrote that article was exceeded only by the indifference with which Rutger played on Saturday.
October 1st, 2019 at 6:28 PM ^
The indifference with which I read it was up there pretty high too.

I thought it was a decent write up.
One thing seemed to be missing from analysis in terms of run game... when the QB becomes a running threat it will help the overall running game in this offense.
Hopefully Shea and Zach are getting healthy. Turner has looked fast to me, but sometimes he seems to be missing the open space in the D. I think Turner isn't getting enough credit overall.
October 1st, 2019 at 2:19 PM ^
Turner is definitely a tougher runner than i thought he would be. But he also has worse vision than i thought he would have. He is an all-american behind a line that can run block well and create holes (Wisconsin). With the OL we have, Charbonet is definitely a much better runner.
October 1st, 2019 at 2:21 PM ^
Ohio State had basically the same problem last year when Haskins wasn't a running threat.
October 1st, 2019 at 10:18 PM ^
But we're sans the 300+ yard passing games with 4 TDs that Haskins had. :-(
October 1st, 2019 at 2:38 PM ^
Turner looked better than I had given him credit for... against Rutgers. If he can do it against Iowa, then let's talk.
October 1st, 2019 at 2:57 PM ^
I'm sure your coaches are conflicted on the issue....Sure, a running QB helps, but you also need a QB to survive the season. Shea is not exactly built like Hurts/Barrett, etc, and you have a murderer's row of front 7s in Iowa, MSU, PSU, ND and OSU on the slate. (made perfect sense to not run them much against Rutgers)
Teams that defend the pass well will key on the RB every time and let the QB get yards and get hit, this is why Barrett would end up with 20 carries/game. Gotta get that passing game firing.
October 1st, 2019 at 2:18 PM ^
Wowzers. Truth hurts.
October 1st, 2019 at 3:31 PM ^
"Iowa = (Wisconsin - Taylor)" ... I think that is an equation we can solve. As long as we maintain gap integrity on defense and have a clean game on offense. And time to bring on the QB keeper to open up the option run game. Shea is looking much healthier. Even if he just arcs for 7-10 yards out of bounds on the keepers that would be enough.
October 2nd, 2019 at 2:02 PM ^
Can we? I seem to remember Taylor being out during a larger portion of the game.
October 1st, 2019 at 3:36 PM ^
Also, the Michigan Threat Level is still low: https://www.elevenwarriors.com/college-football/2019/09/107289/threat-level-didnt-believe-it-at-first-but-michigan-is-back-baby
OSU found our inability to run the ball against Rutgers quite amusing.

Michigan Monday from Ohio
we are going to kick their ass. They are not good.
That is all

In fact, this was the punt return by the third-string punt returner of Big Ten games.
What is this supposed to mean?
ETA: Oh, I get it. He means this:
In fact, this was the punt-return-by-the-third-string-punt-returner of Big Ten games.
That is, it was a completely unimportant game. I was trying to interpret it as this:
In fact, this was the punt return by the third-string-punt-returner-of-Big-Ten-games.
So it didn't compute. Move along, then...
