Should Jim Harbaugh be let go at seasons end? Yay or Nay?

It’s not unreasonable to ask, but we still have 9 games to play. Win two out of three against OSU, MSU, and ND... then the perception is a lot different. The season is not lost yet although it’s not looking good. I think yesterday’s game just officially moved Harbaugh to the hot seat. He will need to be scrutinized over the next couple years.

No, people shouldn’t stop demanding better. Michigan football is way to complacent. “We can’t get a better coach” insert a hundred excuses by this fan base, here’s to a reality check

0-4 vs OSU

1-9 vs top 10

0-7 as underdog

1-6 on the road vs ranked teams

5 losses by over 21 points 3 in last 5 games

1-3 in bowl games

2-2 vs MSU

Let’s look at notable in game decisions

2016 vs MSU in he refused to call a time out on the punt, instead deciding not to max protect when MSU was selling out for a block, we all know what happened next.

2017 MSU kept trying to throw the ball in a monsoon

2017 vs OSU he called the play action pass on the goal one which lead to the pick 6, should have easily won that game

2019 vs army went for it on 4th down twice with shit play calls that almost lost Michigan the game

2019 Wisconsin decides to put Ben mason in to run it from the 7 yard line on the first possession. Not only has Ben mason not ran the ball since last year, he only had 2 days of practice with the offense last week.

Too many wasted time outs I can’t even keep track of them all.

2017 PSU every damn coach in the big ten figured out the PSU offense had a tell, which allowed them to know if it was run or pass. Michigan coaches did not figure this out and were blown out.

2017 outback bowl vs South Carolina. Easily had the game in hand and found a way to blow it.

2018 a very unmotivated Michigan rolled into the peach bowl and were taken out back by Florida. No defensive changes were made after OSU laid a blue print on how to own don brown

Coaching hires

choose Drevno over Jedd fisch (Drevno had one year of exp fully calling plays)

after realizing Drevno was a bad hire he hired his buddy Pep Hamilton who himself was not a play caller at his previous job

after realizing Pep was a bad hire he hires Gattis who also was not a full time play caller at his previous position (to be fair we don’t know the outcome of Gattis he very may end up being a great OC) my point was he wasn’t a full time play caller at his previous job. Is there a reason why for this? Idk I’m starting to believe Jim is a narcissist and picks guys he can still over ride.

I didn’t mind Jim letting Jay coach ST, he worked close with John who is known as a great ST coach, but then he let Jay take Weatleys spot at RB coach, Michigan has had alright success under Jay but is it unreasonable to believe someone couldn’t be doing better?

Michigan didn’t have a full time WR coach in a couple of years, even though it’s a very talented group. You can tell they haven’t been well coached causing them not to have lived up to potential.

Two coaches bolted for OSU

recruiting

didnt recruit a true DT in the 2018 class and it’s showing in 2019

Where are all the running backs at? The only 3 we have who can actually get time are a freshman a RS freshman and a walk on. Where the hell is the depth?

Wr depth is shit, where is all the Wr?

DB depth is shit, where are all the DBs?

Don’t worry about those 4 positions groups having no depth we have a bunch of FBs and TEs.

Letting a guy like AJ Dillion walk

never went after the Belleville kids

Loyalty to players

refusing to bench Speight or JOK

refusing to let Dax play, instead rely on a converted WR who is always out of position.

Refusing to let Michigan’s young top Dlineman recruits see the field instead letting a FB play d line.

Last year no way Gil should of played over Ross, Ross was clearly better.

That’s not even everything, but do you see why some of us are tired of the excuses? It comes down to one man and that’s Harbaugh

This. Right. Here...

is is why everyone hates you guys. This incessant whining, and bitching, and complaining, thinking your list is somehow exclusive to just one coach and one program, how your only recourse is to call for a coach (whomever it is) to be fired because you’re too effing stupid to understand anything else, especially when twice in the last decade you ran out a coach, only to replace him with someone worse.

All the while convincing yourselves that you’re superior to other fans of other teams because of whatever new reason you’ve convinced yourself of.

Eff off. And eff you.

Mic drop.

Some of that post is bullshit, but I do agree with a fair bit of it.

However, we simply cannot keep firing every coach after 3, 4, or 5 seasons. That's the sign of a toxic institution and no one worthwhile will ever want the job.

I think Harbaugh needs to have a come to jesus moment and make some significant changes, but I still think he can get us to the promised land.

I would say we are qualifying for being a toxic institution...  I want to be wrong about this,  but there's just so many damn strange things that keep happening with this program and it hasn't changed since 2006.

So many of our top recruits have ended up turning into duds.  Lots of players transferring.  Lots of coaching changes.  Extremely inconsistent play and horrible records against good teams.

John Belein leaving is maybe the clincher for me that something isn't right in our athletic department.

There is just no indication that he cares that much, Hatter.  And I’m not sure there is a path back from a game like yesterday.  The players quit on him.  The players are a reflection of the environment within the program.  There was no indication they were deriving any will from the coaching staff.

Those things go hand in hand.

If the most vocal don't want him to go, and think someone else can come and do better, why would he want to stay?

Ultimately, if he just coached out his contract how would that harm anything?

It was a very very bad road loss....We've actually handed out those to every B1G team besides OSU and Iowa, some multiple times.

I just don't see what the firing talk (especially in week 4) or actually doing it accomplishes, but I know what it's hurting.

It’s reactionary and stupid. Some of it is a product of the media. I dug up three separate articles. One after the road loss in Happy Valley, one after the ND loss, and one after OSU last year. All asking if Harbaugh should be fired.

Less than a year ago, Michigan steamrolled three ranked opponents by a combined score of 101-27. They were ranked #4 in the country. They’ve made two NY6 Bowls. Since 2015, only 9 schools have won more games and half of those are at 41 or 42 instead of 40 like Michigan.

In 2014, Michigan lost to Rutgers and Maryland and Minnesota. They didn’t make a bowl game.

If this team goes 8-5 and loses to PSU, MSU, OSU, ND, and another loss in conference than yeah, it’s time to have the conversation and see who might be a better choice.

If they go 11-2 and beat OSU?

Fans are pissed because it looked bad. Maybe Wisky should’ve fired Paul Chryst after Michigan destroyed them last year? Unfortunate that loss was a total degradation of the program and all was lost.

Past behavior is a pretty good predictor of future behavior.  It would be an absolute shock if we end up with a winning record this year against quality opponents.  It will be close to a miracle for us to beat OSU.  Actually believing Harbaugh will prepare his team for the Bowl Game is not likely.  That isn't pessimism, that is reality.

Dumb

why would anyone make that decision now and let him coach out the season ?

If you want him fired do it now. Otherwise wait until the end of the year and reassess.

I would love for him to be shown the door tomorrow morning.

He flat out doesn't care anymore and its toxic to the players and other coaches.

This team can still play some good football this year and end the year positively for themselves.

People who are so certain Warde won't fire Harbaugh are out of their mind.   When your coaches team plays like garbage in year 5 and loses a bunch of games HES GETTING FIRED PERIOD.

This is the dumbest, least informed take ever written on MGoBlog.

UM isn’t firing Harbaugh. Your extreme ignorance of Michigan is made obvious by the fact that you think they would.

Some chod who has never played for Michigan suggesting a guy who was All Big Ten QB at Michigan doesn’t care is so utter ridiculous that one wonders about the chod’s mental health.

Is all the negative reports about Harbaugh over the years just people being uninformed about him?

What about all the recruits who have transferred and made complaints about him in the last couple years,  are they uninformed?

What about Greg mattison and the comments he made?  Was he uninformed?

Go hangout with the other delusional and blind fans salvatore

Hail Harbo

I was on the Jim Harbaugh bandwagon while I followed him at San Diego, and that impression was solidified by his time at Stanford.  I changed my moniker and avatar in honor of Jim Harbaugh and how he turned around the program for the 2015 season.  Yesterday I changed my avatar from a portrait of Jim Harbaugh to a train wreck, because that is what he's engineered over the last five years.  Jim Harbaugh needs to do my, and his Alma mater, a solid and tender his resignation effective December 1, 2019.  That will give WM ample lead time to do his own solid and bring in a new coach and staff.  Because, if we're going to look like crap in 2020, as we do in 2019, at least we'll have the excuse of rebuilding from the 2019 train wreck.

I think he cares.  What bothers me is the recruiting. I don’t think these top 10 classes are as good as we think they are.   Michigan has too many young guys forced to play years before they are ready to contribute.  There’s no time to let these under the radar recruits mature and develop.

It’s too late now but Mayfield should’ve been on the defensive side of the ball.  He was a much better DE/DT in high school than OT.

And there’s something weird with Michigan’s receivers.  They either run poor routes or Gattis is tipping off the defense.  After watching the replay this morning Wisconsin had blanket coverage all day and it seemed like two defenders were on the receiver every time a pass was thrown.   First Army did this and now Wisconsin.  Something is seriously wrong.

You have the most adult take on this. The overall sentiment about JH is trending more and more negative. Michigan will need a win over IA in two weeks, even if by only one point in order settle things down a bit.

I am on the wait and see approach, like on Dec 1st. By then the NFL coaching landscape will be more clear and JH could just pack it in on his own and go pro, like what was rumored in 4 of the past 5 years. He's got too pride to be fired and he'll walk away before that happens.
