SHEA AT OSU

Submitted by TomBradyBunch on September 22nd, 2019 at 9:37 AM

I watched the second half of the OSU game yesterday. Fields was benched at half and I got to see their backups. I couldn’t help but realize Chris Chuginov and Gunnar Hoke are both better than Shea.  How is it even possible that Shea would be the 4th string QB in Columbus? I’m all in on the DMac train.

Stop with the "new coaches" shit. The common denominator is the head coach. Was it Drevno, or Pep, or Gattis, or Fisch, or Durkin, or Tolbert, or Frey, or Mattison? All these guys have been blamed for our lack of execution or bad play calls or lack of strength or recruiting. The same guy hired all of them.

Why do you have Fisch and Durkin on there?

Mattison was here when Jim Harbaugh was hired. And looking at what the defensive line is this year, it's clear Mattison is a great coach. The D line looks pretty bad, doesn't it. Ohio St is #2 in defense in the Nation right now, behind only Wisconsin at #1, and 3 places ahead of Michigan St at #5. Ohio Sts defense was #68 last year.

I think we've got a long, ugly year ahead of us.

Maybe consider the fact that OSU's offense has been in place for years since Meyer and that it's a system these guys, by assocation, have also been in for years. You know not like a few months in the case for Shea.

LSU and Maryland quickly adapted to new offenses. I have doubts about Josh Gattis. I thought there were good signs in the 1st half of the Middle Tennessee game. But now I really think Gattis has to be fired. There was no semblance of competitiveness until the game was out of hand and Wisconsin let off the gas. The way it looks now Michigan is headed to 6 losses.

Hey remember how excited everyone was the last time we got an OC from Alabama?  Remember how Nussmeir was going to fully implement manball as it was meant to be run and all was going to be right with the world once again?

Maybe the next time Saban wants to "allow" one of his treasured OCs to come up north and coordinate our offense we tell him "go fuck yourself Nick-you've already gotten us twice with that trick."

Exactly right UMx and the entire offense did change last year with Haskins. Gone was the traditional Urban Meyer zone read option.  Now they’ve taken last year’s offense and added back the QB run.

They were playing Miami (OH), they are a MAC school and not a good one.   With that being said, Day is an elite QB coach and the development by Fields since his transfer has been outstanding.

This. Like it or not, Day is a heck of an offensive mind and was pursued by several NFL teams. That was Day's offense last year - not Urban's.  Urban turned over the keys to Day at the beginning of 2018.

With that said, I disagree about their backup QBs looking better than SP.  Like mentioned, they were playing Miami but I also agree that they weren't chopped liver like some made them out to be in the preseason. Day's specialty is QB development and I saw some of that yesterday.

Because Day knows his offense quite well and has the personnel already there to adapt.  It should be obvious that we have an entire team that has switched from harbaugh style to spread.  So to your point,  yes maybe Shea doesn't 100% have an excuse but you have an entire o-line and personnel that hasn't been in the system either.  Can't say the same for OSU, they absolutely have personnel with experience in the system they are running.

Nobody is going to dominate with that OLine play.  Not Justin Fields, not Trevor Lawrence, not Tua or Hurts, nobody.

With that being said Shea has regressed and throwing into double coverage while you have uncovered receivers is bad and the OLine only explains a portion of that.

Honestly dude just stop. Our problems go way beyond shea. The entire offense is an embarrassment. I'm sad, really. We haven't seen any improvements at all in the 3 games and I don't see how this magically gets better. It won't. There are huge problems..

I am really careful to bring out the word "fire". But Josh Gattis has to be fired.

I don't want to hear another week of coaches and players saying next week we're going to see great offense, not after two years of Pep Hamilton.

Fire Gattis. He returned 9 guys from an offense that averaged about 35 a game last year.  We have stunk up the place with talented players across the board. We use TEs instead of our talented slot receivers. The offense has regressed so much and it’s entirely on him and Harbaugh.

Shea is easily the biggest issue with the offense though and when your QB is a problem then you arent going to have a good offense

He turns the ball over a ton. He cant make accurate throws consistently. He doesnt make easy to catch passes as in he throws ducks. He completely misses the open guys and locks on one WR instead. He is scared to run the ball.

Omg shut the fuck UP ALREADY. Wisconsin’s D kicked our fucking ass. McCaffery is WORSE. It’s so fucking obvious.

Why does everyone ignore that McCaffrey generally looks like shit as well? He was 3-for-8 passing and launched himself into a concussion on two of his three carries.

I'm souring on Patterson, but both he and McCaffrey would also look incredible playing for OSU right now.

I've soured on Gattis and McDaniels. I can't see why Jim Harbaugh can't find elite coaches.

There's probably 20 people on here who could sit with Jim Harbaugh and talk, and come up with better coaches than Greg Frey, Pep Hamilton, Josh Gattis, Shaun Nua, and Ben McDaniels.

Nick Saban comes up with great coaches probably 80% of the time. He replaces coaches all the time. It's a regular part of his work at Alabama. Jim Harbaugh really needs to take a good long look at how he picks coaches. It's like 50/50 success in the way he's doing it now. I don't know, maybe not even that good.

Jedd Fisch was working out so well. The team was constantly building. It's been strange on the offense since he's gone.

Harbaugh should have respect for Saban, and if Saban wasn’t going to entrust Gattis as his OC then Jim shouldn’t have either.   If he did, it damn sure shouldn’t have been without meeting him first, talking through philosophy and making sure he was a fit.  Hiring him over a blind phone call is straight up negligent.  That’s what the Atlantic report says happened and I haven’t seen ANY rebuttal to that.   It’s truly unbelievable that could happen and reeks of desperation.

I hate to break it to you, but the assistant coaches aren't the problem. They aren't the reason for Saban's success and they aren't the reason for our current teams failure. Saban led MSU to a 10 win season then bolted to LSU, where he won a title. Failed in the pros then became the GOAT at Bama.

Harbaugh had Andrew Luck at Stanford and took over a talented San Fran team that started to tank in year four.

It's not on the assistants.
