Shaun Nua Appreciation Thread!

Time for many of you louts to eat crow!

And show a little love to one of the most unfairly treated members of the team.

He took a lot of grief for something that clearly wasn't in his control.

Hey Coach Brown:

But ever since he was released from the maniacal tyranny of "Mad Don Brown", he has contributed to the biggest (literally) turnaround in the program: The Defensive line, especially the interior.

Just since January, he:

Helped close recruiting on

Rayshaun Benny (275lbs)

George Rooks (260)

Signed Ikechukwu Iwunnah (275)

Added transfer Jordan Whitley (348!)

Got them in the weight room:

Hinton (310) +5

Smith (328!) +21

Jenkins (275) +10

Jeter (325) +6

Spieght (310) +20

Benny (292) +17

Rooks (270) +10

Giudice (275) +25

Iwunnah (306) +31!

= +140lbs!

That's like having a 12th man on the field in the interior Dline,

of course he's only the size of an oompa loompa:

:

On top of all that, Coach Nua drove to Indiana last Friday to close the deal with Kenneth Grant, a 335lb! Dtackle who he recruited the whole way and got him to commit rather than wait on OSU.

No more "girly man" DTs 'round here

Obviously, their play on the field speaks for itself, and although I would chalk most of that improvement to the 9 on 7 drills they ran against our Offensive Line, Coach has them playing at a much improved level. Even though they weren't dominant last weekend, shout out to Mike Morris, Chris Hinton and Dave Ojabo on making great plays to seal that win defensively even though they were gassed.

So let's give some love to the big guy coaching the big guys up, because we're gonna need them this weekend for sure.

GoBlue!

And for those who wanted him gone: You were wrong.

Im of the belief that position coaches should be high impact immediately. If they are going to be successful it will show rather quickly. Even effective coordinators should make improvements inside of a season. As Michigan fans we can be negative but at the same time be on a 2+ season wait and see approach. Like our OC and Dline coach. If they were elite it wouldve showed by now. Im surprised we arent seeing a lot of names that you would normally see at Utah, Washington, or USC. I thought he would impact recruiting in those areas.

Shaun used "fricking" twice to express his excitement for the test posed by Wisconsin's big-bodied o-line on his d-line.

I can embrace his excitement positively.

I don't know about this, man.  Hutch was destined for greatness no matter the position coach.  Ojabo, Hinton and Smith have been fine, I guess, but more like middle of the pack in the B1G fine.  Whitley was a good pick up but hasn't played enough to really see what he's got.

Recruiting has been good as of late.  OK.

But overall, I'm not really feeling the depth of the love that you have for Nua.

Well, a Shaun Nua appreciate thread does seem a little premature. Though I do feel the defensive line hasn't played as bad as some people on here are stating.

I mean, if that was the case, then Michigan would've probably lost to Rutgers because the offense really didn't do a lot to win that game.

The Michigan defensive line played well enough against a very motivated and competitive Rutgers football team.

I know they allowed some QB runs up the middle, but Rutgers still didn't score many points.

The Michigan defensive line made some big stops during that game.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Playing this game at this level...everyone deserves a participation ribbon-even the fans...right??? Evidently playing meh is just fine. This post deserves every criticism it is receiving.

Hinton and Smith are showing some hope here. In 6 hours there will be empirical evidence trickling in. "Even a blind pig sometimes finds an acorn"...I hope this ridiculous post has found an "acorn".
