Second Half Team

I’ve been browsing in 11W just to see the fires and pitchfork store advertising, and found an interesting fact: in the last three years Michigan has only punted once in the second half. Michigan has had the ball 14 times in the second half against OSU and has scored 9 touchdowns, 3 field goals, a missed FG, and a punt. The TOP yesterday heading into our last scoring drive was even at 26 minutes with 8 minutes left, we won TOP 33.5 to 26.5.

It is largely no secret Michigan has made up for the talent gap through physical football in the trenches and strategic body blows that limit the possessions of more talented teams. I am so happy to see Jim and the teams plans be executed to perfection these last few years, let’s hope it carries over into the CFP and into the future when we need to develop and replace the stars that make the system work like Blake, JJ, etc. Also share any other interesting facts or stats about the win from yesterday, there’s plenty and I’m soaking up every second.

To add to the point, OSU has only scored 31 points in those three years. Michigan in the same half has outsourced OSU 72-31. That doesn’t come from sign stealing: those are halftime adjustments, good week to week practice and prep, and a unified team bludgeoning another imposing their will.

It’s cult like status at 11 warriors with regard to the sign stealing. If you’re a commenter over there and down play it, you’re run off. It’s not surprising really. Posters want confirmation bias and they get it. Same thing can happen here, but I think our collection of posters have a substantially higher level Intellect than the posters over there and this keeps things from getting too one-sided.

They are aslo convinced the ncaa is going to level substantial punishments on us. I don’t think that’s going to happen.

This group completely bought into Jim Harbaugh football..it's old-school with some new school wrinkles..it's not always the cutest with video game numbers...but its winning football FOOTBALL...it gets kids ready for the next level..Get to Michigan

There is nothing better than casually strolling through 11W the day after another win against their soft team. There are some top notch comments over there.

My favorite is the "Bet" thread.

I think depth is a factor as well. As someone pointed out in an earlier thread the OSU Dline takes a lot of snaps. They are usually in the entire game and played that way the whole year. They have elite talent but get bludgeoned for 60 and get worn down.

Conversely, we have 4 rotational edges and 5 rotational tackles. You are just not going to wear our D line down.

Not necessarily a fact per se but Moore’s play calling and decision making throughout the game was spot on. Went for it on the right 4th downs, went for FGs when points were at a premium and put all the pressure on OSU to pull out a last second victory.

JJ didn’t have to force many throws and the running game worked well enough to keep MHJ and Co. on the sidelines.
