Season Ticket Renewal Question (Delivery charge)?

Submitted by umfb19 on February 14th, 2022 at 4:09 PM

Have any of you noticed the "delivery charge"?  I don't recall ever paying this the past 8 years (maybe I missed it).  But charging $50 to mail them, seems quite high, don't you think?  I mean, I like to keep the hard copies, uncut, as mementos.  But, seriously... $50 to send me an envelope, that I just looked and the postage was $1.40 for last years.  Am I crazy??

Oh, and if I want them digitally delivered... you know... "emailed"... that's $10!

I am half tempted to not renew, just because of it.  Now... I'm sure you can tell me it's always been this way and I'll renew and be mad again next season, but this just seems a bit redic.

I think in previous years they charged a $20 convenience or processing fee or something regardless of how tickets were delivered. I typically get mine paper so I don't remember when they started offering a digital version.

With the push to go all digital and use the Athletics app, I had a feeling this was coming. I think the NFL and a few others did this a few years ago when they started pushing to go all digital as well. A year or two of very high fees for paper tickets and then cut out the option entirely.

Saw the same thing, was also annoyed.  This is the first year they've done it (prior year's it was $20 no matter what I think).  It's essentially an inconvenience fee to disincentivize getting the hardcopies mailed to you with the goal of speeding up the AD's transition to 100% digital.

I know how much the tickets cost us, and that hand they keep putting farther out is beginning to look a little less friendly.  I have no problem paying for shipping, but we spent more than enough to cover the cost of printing.  $10 for an email and digital storage?  Well, I guess the value of something is the price someone is willing to pay for it.  However, the AD is taking that to another level.

It’s an obvious “Recovery Fee” for the revenue loss due to Covid.  But I paid it for the same reason as some others.  I want to save hard copies as I have for the last 30 years.

Think about why you buy season tickets.  I buy them because it forces me to make the trip out from NYC to see some games.  So, yeah, $50 is a rip off, but I basically overpay for something almost every day.

I had Yankee season tickets (split with two other guys) for years and went to 20+ games a year.  Then I dropped them figuring I would just buy through Stub Hub for the games I want.  Now I never go in person, even though its a relatively short subway ride away.

If you are definitely going to two  + games a year whether you have season tickets or not, then  drop your tickets and don't pay the fees.

The $50 fee for real tickets is a combination of
a). printing and mailing fees
b). an attempt to get you to switch to digital tickets (which the athletic department has greater control over than your paper ticket)
c). a way of spreading out the cost of tickets through a variety of fees (which also includes the PSD.)

They definitely want to get away from printed tickets and they clearly imposed the fee to see how important paper tickets are to ticket holders.  I opted for paper tickets last year but went digital last year.  All of my single game hockey tickets are digital and it is more convenient than a paper ticket.  It is easy to download from the app to my iPhone wallet and I don't have to remember to take it with me and I don't have to worry about losing them.  A few years back, I went to the game with my alumna daughter and gave her the ticket so she could see friends before the game and meet me at the seats.  She ended up losing the ticket - we could have gone to athletic department and got a replacement ticket but we would have missed kickoff.  Fortunately it was the Rutger game and stubhub was cheap but digital tickets would solve the problem unless she lost her phone.

You'd think that in this day and age, with attendance continuing to decline across the board, that the AD would actually try to show appreciation for the season ticket holders. But no...

It just pisses people off, unnecessarily.  Bury the cost in the price of the tickets.  And if you think it's time, then just go full digital.  Mail us memento tickets at a de minimus cost.

My friends grandfather has had season tickets for over 40 years and this was his tipping point. He doesn't have a smart phone and doesn't want to jump through the hoops. Charging him extra for what he has always already had was the ultimate insult.  Sad really!

I thought it was kinda silly. Just roll that into the cost of the ticket. Charging $10 or $50 either way (digital vs. printed) just seemed dumb after being asked to pay the huge "donation" and ticket price all at the same time. Charging for digital copies of the tickets you just paid for, while clearly minimal compared to what we just dropped on tickets, felt petty and skeezy. Like, you're going to have me pay multiple thousands for the 4 tickets we have and then charge me $10 to get them?

They are just trying to get season ticket holders to all go digital - hence the ridiculous delivery charge.  I don’t get the $10 for digital … just add it to the ticket price as there is no option to not have them delivered.
