Ryan Day & Kirby Smart Talk CFP Matchup
Ryan Day and Kirby Smart held an interesting Peach Bowl press conference to discuss their matchup. It's interesting and insightful on many levels, especially given that both of these teams represent recent Michigan opponents (and future ones). I was particularly interested in reading that both Smart and Day study each other (and Clemson) in the offseason to see if they can glean any tactical tidbits from what elite non-conference opponents are doing.
KIRBY SMART: I haven’t studied [OSU] this season. In off-seasons we try to go out and watch the best teams in the country and what they do and try to get better at it.
Especially when you watch your own conference all year, you get to watch all your opponents, you see what they do, you want to go out of your league when you go in the off-season to study. We’ve always looked at Clemson, Ohio State, looked across the country to find out how are people doing it really well and what are they doing it differently.
In the past we’ve seen they have elite players and tough, physical guys across the NFL, and it’s littered with Ohio State players. That’s been in the past. I haven’t been able to look at Ohio State so far this year.

Two self important jerks, no thanks.

Man this hurts to say but... go dawgz!!

Hail no. Don't cheer for any of those fuckers. I'm hoping both of those teams beat the hell out of each other into multiple overtimes.

With targeting.

I am rooting for the meteor despite the long odds from Vegas.

Hopefully this is safe from the "no politics" rule: Ryan Day looks like a member of the CCP politburo with that jet-black hair dye. Let the gray through, man.
December 6th, 2022 at 6:24 PM ^
Pretty clear that he's queuing up the excuses by emphasizing that they're playing "in Georgia's backyard".
December 6th, 2022 at 6:54 PM ^
Well, as a general rule, the next Russian leader will be someone with a full head of hair. Ryan Day has a full head of hair. Coincidence?

You mean the "Just for Men" spokesman?
December 6th, 2022 at 6:20 PM ^
So to slightly paraphrase Kirby Smart.
KIRBY SMART: In off-seasons we try to go out and watch the best teams in the country so I haven’t studied [OSU] this season. .
Did I read that right?
December 6th, 2022 at 6:30 PM ^
That’s what I was picking up on. He veiled it then explained it, then said it again.
December 6th, 2022 at 6:33 PM ^
When you get blown like that in 2021, you are better off spending your time in a pool during summer than watching OSU Football.
December 6th, 2022 at 6:40 PM ^
Think the notion was they study out of conference teams in the off-season. Since it is not yet the off-season, he hasn't studied what OSU is doing in 2022.
December 6th, 2022 at 6:55 PM ^
I prefer Golden Section's interpretation.
December 6th, 2022 at 7:12 PM ^
So, ah, how was the doctor visit today? Good news?
December 6th, 2022 at 8:23 PM ^
Man, that SUPREP was rough... And when I do that again I'm definitely making an earlier appointment. No coffee before 12:30 is just inhumane.
Pretty sure it went ok. Removed two polyps and sent them off to be tested, but he didn't seem worried so I'm assuming it might be common.
Otherwise, it felt like the best sleep I've had in years.
Thanks for asking, my friend!

no worries. had one once. doc said i had a colon like a teenager, to which i turned to my dear wife and said, 'see honey, i always told you i'm a perfect a*&^le'.
December 6th, 2022 at 10:35 PM ^
Ha! Did she agree with you?
December 6th, 2022 at 10:58 PM ^
married just shy of 27 years. she knows it all, for better or for worse, and hasn't left me (yet) or even threatened to. with 7 kids we're kind of fond of each other still. she's really cool.

Fuck uga. High on their own supply. Saying on Atlanta radio today that they'd rather play osu than tcu in the semifinal since we beat osu and we're "Georgia Lite", then they'll more easily dispatch the buckeyes.
I can't wait for one of those two teams to have their hearts ripped out.
December 6th, 2022 at 8:26 PM ^
I know this is a meteor game of epic proportions for you Mr Mgohillbilly.
Will be interesting to see if an osu can compete with the bulldogs. Definitely a challenge for cyan day.
December 31 will be quite the college football Saturday!!!
Go Blue and beat dem frogs 💪
December 6th, 2022 at 8:26 PM ^
Go Dawgs 100% I will never root for OSU. I hope UGa blows out the buckeyes.
December 6th, 2022 at 10:33 PM ^
This.
Like Magua in “Last of the Mohicans”, I do not want to have to fight the same red-coats a second time.

KIRBY SMART: I haven’t studied [OSU] this season. In off-seasons we try to go out and watch the best teams in the country and what they do and try to get better at it.
So in off-seasons UGA goes out and watches the best teams in the country to see what they do. He hasn't studied OSU.
Subtle, but that right there was the first salvo. I expect Day to counter with something soon. Maybe how Smart was born on third base and thought he hit a triple?

Smart is an incredible coach and recruiter, but there is something waaaaaaayyyyy off about that dude, something radically insincere.
